Ain'T No Hoop and Stick

Whenever the grandchildren visit us
you can see how they turn their heads and cringe
If we should start talking about the games
that we were forced to play with way back when

They roll their eyes at each other and laugh
anytime we talk about how it was
When even the newest tech of our time
was only able to click, whirl and buzz

I told them, “Well ok smarty britches,
got anything better to offer me”
They opened a box of glasses and gloves
this is the latest gramps, it’s called 3D

My grandson stuck it on his head and hands
began to jump and prance around a bit
Swinging his arms and kicking both his feet
like he was having a conniption fit

When I told them I didn’t understand
what it was that he was trying to do
They said let us cast it to the TV
then you can follow along with him too

The TV pops up this high mountain scene
and he was just hanging there from a cliff
About a thousand feet above a blue lake
only his hands to use to climb up with

I can tell you now, that just by watching
I was already nearly out of breath
But when they finally convinced me to try
I won’t lie, pert near scared me half to death

Sure glad I didn’t have this contraption
way back then when I was a little tyke
Or I’d never learned to play tic-tac-toe
hide and seek, freeze tag or ride my bike

It’s no wonder kids are glued to their screens
whenever I see them walking today
because they got all these here fancy doo dads
and they are so gosh darn much fun to play
