Note to Self - Chill Out
I see you feel tired and discouraged,
sometimes disappointed with yourself and others.
I cannot remember where I read or heard it,
but one should cut the other guy some slack,
as much as you would have them cut yourself.
That makes sense.
It seems that while you are, at times, hurtful, or over-harsh with others,
you are even harder on yourself,
this tendency definitely does more harm to you than anyone else.
You are a senior citizen now.
You've been fortunate in many ways, and had a lot of great things happen,
along with challenges, pain, and disappointment.
You've tried hard.
You've mainly treated your brothers and sisters well.
It's time for you simply to make things as easy on yourself as possible,
and enjoy yourself -
as well as being easy on your fellow beings,
who are also human,
and have undergone their own challenges, and suffering.
How can you treat your comrades better, you ask?
Perhaps by having less pride.
Perhaps by understanding that those who have hurt you
have only done so
because of their own pain,
and that, put simply,
an eye for an eye,
leaves everyone blind.
Perhaps, it's time to speak honestly, but respectfully,
to those who have hurt you, explaining your feelings.
At any rate, let's take a moment to celebrate the positive.
You've lived a pretty good life.
You've made wonderful friends,
have had multiple loves (oops),
have a great "kid"
who is engaged to another great "kid".
So, sit back and relax.
Turn your brain off,
and start putting those
peppers
mushrooms
and
cheese
on that pizza crust!
