Inter-Parliamentary Union Ipu
On June 30th 1889
one hundred and thirty-two years ago
In the ambiance of Continental Hotel Paris
Two visionary Parliamentarians
And men of peace
English Man William Randal Cremer
And French Man Frédéric Passy
In furtherance of their goal for peace
And arbitration through cooperation
And Dialogue
Mid-wifed an Association of
parliamentarians
Which has metamorphosed
Into global organization
Of National parliaments
First multilateral political organization
Acclaimed today
As inter-parliamentary Union(IPU)
Through the instrumentality of IPU
Corresponding institutions
At governmental levels
Saw the light of the day
The permanent Court of Arbitration
In The Hague in 1899
The League of Nations in 1919
And the Mighty United Nations in 1945
The behemoth has today
Over 170 Member parliaments
And resolutely committed to
Democracy for everyone
Parliaments at the service of the people
Promotion of democratic governance
values
Peace
Human rights
Gender equality
Youth empowerment
Sustainable development through
Political dialogue
Cooperation and parliamentary action
IPU is a potential global parliament !
