WHERE ONCE WAS GREEN

Is this progress we make
as we play game that’s fake?
Green space that once spread far
we turn to urban scar.
Bulldozers scrape away
live soil down to dead clay.
Hedges end up in skip
then off to landfill tip.
Wildlife rendered homeless
as mankind makes progress.
Acres of luxury homes
with plastic grass and gnomes.
See cheap styrene roof tiles
and PVC for miles.
We play a game that’s fake.
Is this progress we make?
