Saturday night in Saint-Michel's Place
the stone carved demon he slew. It was
the bell, Emmanuel,
that I heard ring its knell;
Notre Dame's appeal we kneel for mass.
*Emmanuel is the name of the great bell in Notre Dame's south tower, from 1685. Place Saint Michel sounds in French like, "Ploss San Michele." Within sight of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France; a statue of St Michael stands, sword in hand a, demon underfoot.
