Returned Love
Returned Love
I've been awake but I was sleeping
Remained alive but I was still
And any happiness worth keeping
I couldn't easily fulfill
I was surviving but was drowning
My heart was beating but stayed back
Whatever joy that I was feeling
Was almost always under attack
I've eaten but I was hungry
Was independent but wasn't whole
Alone I handled what was needed
Tried to stay warm, but I was cold
MY life was filled with hills and valleys
I went through many ups and downs
But when I needed the one to rally
My special someone was not around
The person that I most required
Was living a completely different life
And what I mostly would desire
I couldn't make it come alive
When you came back, my heart re-started
And I began to come alive
And ever since, I've known the meaning
Of a fulfilling, joyful life

In the bosom of compassion
In the comfort of the home
We will gather with our families
And will see how they have grown
On the table there is always a cornucopia of treats
A centerpiece that’s fully blooming
A selection of tasty sweets
While outside the foliage’s glowing
And emotions, it evokes
Inspiration that is growing
Magnificence, it does invoke
It is time to offer blessings
It is time to appreciate
As this holiday is vital
And we need to celebrate
So in sum, we bestow honor
And festivities embrace
On this day of commemoration
It holds for us a special place - By Alona Perlin.
"I thought this poem had wonderful imagery and embraced fall, as well as the celebration of Thanksgiving in its content. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays and I tried to capture the warmth and glory of this holiday in this poetic form"

An Ode To Loneliness
By Alona Perlin
Why am I so frightened
Why am I so scared
Because life's unknown journeys
Left me Unaware
Emptiness inside me
For a long time there shall be
Till I find my purpose
My soul then shall be free
I have sought for hours
I have sought for years
For others to join me
And relieve my fears
But I found that sometimes
Loneliness can be crass
We are around others
But lonely nevertheless
What we need to gather
What we need to learn
Is that we're there for each other
At each and every turn
And if you don't find that person
That can make you feel you're loved
Take heart in the knowledge
That you are then enough
