We were learning to play bridge, and it was okay I guess.
I always outbid everyone at the table including sister Tess.
Mom and Dad took one each of us, “you get that twin.”
We always took them down, rarely would we win.

One day when the rest of them were away from the table
Sassy joker jumped into my lap and said “I shall call you Mable”.
The glint in his eye said “Let’s be a couple, you little minx!”
I was so shocked, I threw him under the couch cushion, pink.

Where is the joker? Asked Mom as she put the cards away.
I professed not to know, but picked him up the very next day.
Let me sleep under your pillow tonight, the saucy joker said.
I was horrified, but thrilled too, as I took him to my bed.

Premium MemberReverse Midas Touch

Like Rip Van Winkle, she confronted a new world;
Hers was one of commonplace and acceptability,
not exceptional nor eager for excellence.

Remember when bacon packs were a pound,
and diesel was cheaper than gas? 16 ouch packs
are now replaced by 12 ouches with higher prices.
I understand inflation. Have you seen Common Sense lately?

Craftmanship and the Midas Touch are disappearing also. Perhaps you
will find them with a gallant search, but be enduring and patient; for it
could be a rare find. Like many things of quality and pricelessness, The
Midas Touch appears to be quietly exiting the stage. The curtains are closing.

Unfortunately, some things don't get to be made great again. She gave her
best as she sighed by day and wept late at night. She could not compromise
the essence of her soul. She wanted to stay, but could no longer compete.
Often outbid by style and mediocrity, she maintained her integrity.

Test of Endurance

Test of Endurance---

Fighting; physical or mental,
It doesn't matter the hurt is real.
The scars left by foul play,
are deep and dark.

I won't succumb to these marks alas,
Play my part and fix those who are dark.
I feel the wind move and tear even time apart.
Time taken to heal the maimed heart.
Broken into a thousand parts,
To achieve peace at last,
and to regain the lustre of my broken heart.

Steps must be taken to be alive at last.
Feel the world anew and blossom,
When light from all the fixed souls shall Outplay,
Outshine, Outbid those who are still dark.
A new wisdom shall rule the world,
Called peace and compassion,
We shall await that fate, for this,
Is a Test of Endurance, Until
The Ethereal Minds meet to tear this world,
and form a better one.

Bales and Bushels

It's our social spectrum,
Polar opposites,
A moral conundrum,
Named Charlotte,
Our eyes locked across the sea,
Sealed behind iron eyelids,
An investor's security,
The upstarts outbid,
All bets are off,
The crack of our whips,
A duelist's standoff,
Agony on your lips,
Pushed into an animalistic frenzy,
My fists won the day with their negotiating,
A bargain for your safety,
At the cost of my sanity
"Our bond's too treacherous for society",
Wordlessly you agree,
"We'll find shelter at my home come quickly!"
You shudder at what you see,
"I'm sure you'll love it here, don't mind the bodies",
You tremble in your chains,
"I sought to free those women as well, tis a shame our love waned",
With clinking heels you attempt to flee,
"Stop that women don't make me hurt you!"
His breath upon your face,
"We'll be as one right now with the stars as our chapel and our priest the moon",
A night of torment and pain,
"I've consumed the fruits of Eve",
A genetic future ingrained,
"Now we're bound in sin my darling",
Your internal cacophony of screams escape as grim laughter,
"Yes master".

Premium MemberAuctioneer

An unmarked auction house in the cellar
Fat cat millionaires outbid one another
A quiet pissing contest
To be the lowest of low-lifes.

A living corpse up for gropes...I mean grabs.
She’s a virgin, for now.
Chocolate curls over a red silk chemise
Cerulean eyes, swollen.

Fifteen years old with her head in the clouds,
Drug-induced of course.
She wasn’t willing.
The closing bell won’t change that.

What do we suppose the winning bid will be?

A suburban mother sobs and curses god
from a twin-sized bed
drowning in red silk sheets and tears
under a boy-band poster.

Another runaway, the Sherriff had shrugged.
Third one this week.
He was in a hurry.
Working two jobs so he could retire.

I work at an auction, said he.
But no one was listening.
The Senator shared a knowing wink
Jingling coins in his red silk pocket.

I'll start the bidding.

Vanity In Season

She sits behind her pretty white fence,
with the custom bird house perched high,
so every neighbor can hate it.
She remembers the auction where she outbid
the last bidder by fifty dollars
just to bathe in the look of defeat of someone
who coveted the same prize.
" How dare she bid against me", she thought,
"Sure showed her".
Now hoisting her reward in the yard,
not so much for the birds,
but as a symbol of victory.
" I am Invincible", she muses as she stands,
presenting her conquest like Vanna White,
displaying the last letter.
Such a store bought smile breaks,
from ear to ear over a vanity not even
cherished.
Just as quickly she disappears in her castle,
to ponder what other trophies to attain.
Another day behind her now,
and the birds go hungry once again.
