Nain Poems | Examples

Premium MemberCompassion and Faith

A centurion understood authority
but deemed himself unworthy of
an audience with The Christ.

Jesus totally ignored the state of
his unworthiness, marveled at his FAITH,
and healed the centurion's servant.

The widow of Nain expressed no FAITH.
She only had pain, sorrow, and tears
as her only child was being funeralized
when Jesus met her and said, "Weep not".

In her case, there was no mention of FAITH;
Neither did she request anything from Jesus.
Nevertheless, there was clearly mercy, love, and
compassion when Jesus gave her son back to her.

Nainsook

Nothing is lost from life
Nano or a macro
Nettle or petal soft
Near or in nebula
Nainsook like nice they are
Nerve soothing, when we are
Nestled in deep yoga

Note: Though the word Nainsook is not uncommon in English stll it will facilitate understanding the poem if we know that the word originates from the word “Nainsukh” in Hindi, Urdu and Bengali . Nain (or Nayan) means eye. Sukh is pleasure. We may say the nainsook moonlight.

When Love's Saints Come, Marching In

Entering into a town called, Nain; noticing this funeral procession passing by
A widow and her only son having compassion, Heaven's Messiah: caesura ? Eyes
Towards celestial's holy skies; reaching, as touching Love's throne; their Angel pours
Bohemian's vial mighty these waters lightning crashing thunders ? Sacred scrolls an end
Of renunciation's age; Arise my child handing him back unto, his mother; time's requiem tears
Washed away the wolf yet her lamb ? Emancipation, their flock in innocent, lovely Cherubs....
Rosy cheeks golden harps seven candlesticks four horsemen; thirteen joys with wills to be merry
An open door revelations ten thousand mirrors and, Apollyon ? Fire mingled of brimstone eat
This bitter book Divinity's cleansing blood soaked robes; Gabriel, Christmas cards Omega's, reformation.

Extracted Memories (Freeverse)

Artificial pairings forced friendships
and barriers of language, but seemed
harmless, and without knowing me
painted letters in tidy rows
words on scented sheets signed with love
and read in secret.

Mother could be so distant
she must have known love once
waiting with a case of clothes
strange faces and writing books
no drawn out farewells or take cares
I went to school

Empty words and promises
long vacations surrounded by mountains
the song filled valleys I made home
with broken phone calls, no dreams
just pregnant pauses and nothing
but Nain would hold me.

I remember packing trunks and boxes,
skirts and blazers of dark blue
no handkerchiefs for crying tears
hidden behind the closet door
I had nothing to say.

The years have wandered past now
and love has found its own way
my heart once broken remains strong
beneath a distant smile
I have learned to keep my secrets
with phone calls that never come.

I still wonder if those old friends
hid their secrets beneath the pillow
before their voices judged me
with venom to strip my heart
as they turned and walked away.
