Premium MemberThe 'Mighty Maccabees'

A few hundred ragtag, rabbinic Maccabees
faced the might of Antiochus’ army
        60,000 fighting men strong

The Chanukah story we all know
The rabbis delivered Greece a knockout blow
Rededicated the Temple, and with a small cruise of oil
lit the lamps of the Menorah, eight nights in all

Yet in our prayers, not a single word about
the military prowess of the ‘Mighty Maccabees’
We thank God, and God alone, for routing Greece

Mattathias, the leader, and his sons,
        five indomitable priests
     we praise instead
~ but only for their spiritual feats

     ___________________________________________
The Talmud asks: 'What is Chanukah?' The above is
(a much-condensed version of) the answer it gives.
(Tractate 'Shabbos,' 21a - 23b)... Also found in the
'Abridged Book of Jewish Law, Laws of Chanukah,
     Solomon Gantzfried, (English version)

~ As the Dreidels Spin ~

  Game, set and match
    Here comes a fresh batch
of potato latkes, as the dreidels spin
Up comes a gimmel -- You win

  Maccabees mean Victory
    so many menorahs to see
Let's dance the hora and sing a song
It's Chanukah time ~ we all get along

Premium MemberTo Make God Happy

Not all about a fancy tree
  or menorah made of gold
Though holidays be times of joy
there's a story to be told

Maccabees fought the mighty Greeks
  to uphold Israel's proud tradition
Christians fete the Savior's birth
Prince of Peace and their religion

And with each story lessons to be learned
without regard to fame or fortunes earned
Instead they teach that God's made happy
when the poor and lonely are not spurned

Premium MemberBattle Cry

"Who is like unto You, O Lord?"
 The Maccabees' battle cry
   For the sake of God
   They were willing to die

Their holiday's name is Chanukah
Which is translated as 'dedication'
   The Temple's Lamp's restoration
with a cruse of pure olive oil
   celebrated by lsrael's nation

No marches or military celebrations
~ Light is what ignites Jewish education

Premium MemberLight a Candle

A discordant drumbeat from Washington comes
Lawmakers to senseless partisanship succumb
Midst the darkness, light a candle
Pave the way for the Savior to come

From the Oval Office menacing texts and tweets
Leaving a sour taste behind holiday treats
Midst the darkness, light a candle
Thrill to the triumph of the Maccabees**

Social media's blasphemers, angry trolling mobs
Intimidating their victims, making them sob
Midst the darkness, light a candle
Send a signal to the bullies and snobs

Terrorism the world over rears its ugly head
So many innocents, injured or dead
Midst the darkness, light a candle
May the Flame of Goodness be spread

**The Maccabees restored and rededicated the Temple in Jerusalem,
including the Menorah Lamp, their brave deeds memorialized in the
    Holiday of Chanukah.

Chanukah Approaching

The ancient joyous
     festival
  will be celebrated
again this year
  Potato pancakes and
sugary doughnuts
    will delight the
palate
    Eight burning candles
with a shames in
    the middle
mark the victory
    of the Maccabees
 over their oppressors
This year it comes at
    the same time as
Christmas
  another sweet holiday
But more people
   should give Chanukah
a chance
   The beauty of the
candles symbolize
   the beauty within
of all who light those candles
          and remember, remember.....
   should give

Premium MemberGod Or Father Christ

Apostle is a priest
Eternal Son is the Apostle of Eternal Father
Eternal Father gave the name Christ when He was baptized by St. John the Baptist
He ordered the 12 apostle to preach His Gospel

He was the Highest Priest of the Universal Church
Universal means Catholic or Roman Catholic
There is a purgatory
Yes, purgatory is in the bible

The 2nd book of Maccabees, Old Testament
Purgatory or Purification
Intellectually understood
All as in everybody should be under Eternal Son’s Universal Church

Eternal Son is the Highest Priest of the Catholic or Roman Catholic Church
It is for the righteous to call Eternal Son Father Christ
Eternal Father is in Him
Father Christ sends the Holy Spirit

Christians will be in the Purgatory
Until they learn from their Initiation before going to heaven
On earth is called Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults R.C.I.A. to be the true Christian
Three types are slain

Father Christ is the pathway to heaven
To face Eternal Father and the Divines
It is my job to inform everybody

Premium MemberThe Apocrypha 11022011

Those books which were rejected by the Council of Hippo
Being non-biblical belong to what is called the Apocrypha
These books of the Bible
They are often well worth reading as they offer much historical information

Not otherwise available
However
Some of these stories
Slightly heretical tendencies

The Catholic use of the word “Apocrypha”
Defined aboveShould be distinguished from the incorrect Protestant use of the word
Protestants use this term to designate the seven books of the Bible included in the Catholic Bible canon

But not accepted or found in Protestant Bibles
These seven books are
Tobit, Judith, Wisdom, Sirach
1 and 2 Maccabees and parts of Esther and Daniel

Protestants call the books
Found in the Catholic
Apocrypha
The Pseudepigraphal books
