Icy mornings and darkness warnings
The sun late dawning, commuters yawning
Snow and ice, rain and sleet
The elements do pain the feet
Benevolent heat! the perfect greet
A bitter sweet much needed treat
No birds to see, they left with glee
Indeed they’re free to flee the tree
It seems to me natures decree
Eternally the way things be
Sunshine rare, a low set glare
Trees stand bare, devoid of flare
I stare with care at nature; fair
I am one with all, the whole we share
Ever ponder I,
who hears the distant traffic haul,
The planes up high above me droan.
the whistle of the wind through trees,
And gentle rustle of their leaves.
I look beyond my window sill,
no stars tonight, just low set cloud.
And ever do I ponder still.

Sewing machine, long idle, gathered dust
Time to fix, needles gone, must have bust
Last to use, mama's hand
Peddles low, set on stand
Thread on bobbin, red, white and blue
Dried up tube of Elmer's glue
On the side a wrinkled shirt
Filled in holes, filth in dirt
The war years seem like yesterday
Some memories have gone away
The sewing machine, brings back some
The filthy shirt, brought me one
Uncle Joe, gone too soon
Killed in action, bing, bang, boom
Plaques and pictures, left his mark
The candle sputtered, spent, and all was dark
