Whatever Floats Your Boat
By: Tom Wright
3-7-2008

Some might think it to be silly
To sit and spend time writing
But is it so much different
Than fishing, driving, or kiting

All have proven to shorten my life
By the amount of time I’ve spent
And toward life’s end I’ll surely
Question where all this time went
The things that I have written
Will endure for all to see
But who will know of my big fish
That wasn’t meant to be

Or the things that perhaps I saw
On a Sunday afternoon drive
As I age it becomes much harder
To keep those memories alive

And the kite that I once flew
That seemed many layers high
I now wonder was it really,
Or just low clouds in the sky

I guess that what I’m saying,
We must each do our own thing
If you don’t fish, kite, or sight see
Perhaps you’ll write or sing.

Premium Member Against the wind

Soldiers fight for their country,
they try to protect millions of people.
Again, nowadays slaves for no reason shooting enemies or brothers in the darkness.
They feel like heroes when they go, they feel empty when they come back, if they have that chance.
Injured souls forever, phoenix birds burnt in their ashes to finish.

Fighting agaist the wind, soldiers are. Whatever they do,
will never be the best.
The history of the humanity,
always the same story to write.
Why not send the leaders to fight each other?. I guess, there wouldn't be many wars.
Easy to send innocents to fight, while the big idiots talk about talking around the world.

Meanwhile, we are small fish
swimming in troubled waters,
food for big sharks to smile with big teeth for the whole world.
Against the wind we fight everyday, and all of a sudden,
somebody blows our life off.

"There isn't much that I have learned through all my foolish years except that life keeps runnin' in cycles..." ~ from Cycles, written by Gayle Caldwell, sung by Frank Sinatra

In the Spring, colorful flowers blossom.
So many hopeful seasons, I recall.
I have lived a life I'd say was awesome,
but all blooms lose color and die in Fall.

Next year, lovely new blossoms will appear.
They'll have their chance to sway in Summer breeze
when their time to spring from the earth is here,
never thinking of the next Winter's freeze.

That's the eternal cycle of living,
If my merry-go-round is almost up,
then I'm filled with the humblest thanksgiving
for whatever love once filled up my cup.

Then, I'll feed the flowers, like men before,
while this ol' world goes on - forevermore.

Others begin calling them on their stuff.
They get angry; the group gets smaller.
They advance into a name-calling realm.

Bystanders have been trained to be upstanders.
They call the name-callers on it.
Bullying has stopped being fun.
They wander away, licking their wounds.

Im There For You and My Love Is Yours To See

When I was down you lifted me up to the sky
You didn’t ask me for repayment or even question why
You gave me everything you had inside
Told me you would be there until the end right by my side

Whenever I was in need you were there for me
Now I’m there for you and my love is yours to see

When I was blue you came through fast
I could see your endearing friendship and that it would last
I knew if I needed your guidance you would stay awhile
Give me some of your best advice with an encouraging smile

Whenever I was in need you were there for me
Now I’m there for you and my love is yours to see

But know its time to repay the deed
I’ll be there with everything I am for whatever you need
I’ll take care of it all right from the start
Carry your fears and problems away with all of my heart

Whenever I was in need you were there for me
Now I’m there for you and my love is yours to see

Ill face it with you no matter what it’s all about
You’ll never have to worry or ever have to doubt
We’ll attack it together or step back and defend
I’m right here for you forever because you’re my friend

Father, Guide My Steps

Walking alone scares me...
Father, guide my steps
that I may be safe
from coming storms,
whenever I wake,
whatever challenge I take:
be there to strength me and uplift me,
and I won't fear any sound, any darkness:
your wisdom is more than light...
oh, Father, guide my steps in the starless night!

I will not listen to a liar's voice,
and not put my trust in anybody
other than you, Father smiling from above;
the life you gave me is as precious as gold,
I'll wait for tomorrow to unfold...
without any worry and anxiety!

Facing danger makes me weak,
Father guide my steps
and lead me home safely
through fog and rising shadows
that have ghostly faces and speak
as if they were souls of misery!

Father, guide me steps,
not only tonight, but always;
make all darkness disappear
from these dark thoughts...
so that the starriest night can appear,
and morning can chase away clouds!

Premium Member The Hopeful Moon

When my world sometimes seems tragic and I’m finding it difficult to cope
the full moon is there to remind me…there is always hope.

Usually I walk in darkness before the light of day
but once a month the clouds will part and a full moon lights my way.

And the road that, only yesterday, was blanketed in the black of night
by some miracle, today, is bathed in reflected light.

And I can feel my hope return…knowing nature has found a way
to, once again, remove the darkness by blending night and day.

The birds who think the day’s begun…begin to sing in voices clear and bright
harmonizing with the owls who still believe it’s night.

And the animals, usually hidden in the shadows or who sleep during the day
also feel the hope as they come out to play.

The rabbits hop a little higher…it’s fun to watch them play
reminding me of children underneath the tree on Christmas Day.

As the moonlight into every crevice of the morning seeps
many a flower is fooled into awakening and today will lose a little sleep.

And if you listen closely…to do this you must stop along the way
there is a moment when the crickets stop their chirping…
and the trees begin to pray.

So…whatever happens today…tomorrow…
when I have moments I find it difficult to cope…
How blessed am I to have the full moon
To remind me…
there is always hope.

A Judges Dream

While judging a poetry contest I dreamt
of the time and the thoughtful energy spent
perusing the content, rhythm and rhyme
confused by the presence of rosmary’s thyme

counted the syllables, measured the meter
only to read something sick’ningly sweeter
and then with a bang a poem exploded
my god was the writer just crazy – or loaded.

Thus was I tortured, forced to flee from my bed
to read once again whatever I’d read
awaken the muse, become more reflective
remember that poets have but one directive

and that is to write, and then to write more
then share what they’ve written with both rich and poor.

Premium Member Love Or Loveless

Can you love and not love someone at the same time?
The mortals will answer in the positive that you can
So if that is indeed the truth
Then is that how I feel for you?
I did love you at some point in our lives
When I fell for you I don't know
But I know one fact to be the absolute truth
You were indeed the best thing to happen to me
Words become meaningless when attempting to express my gratitude to you
But I'm not allowed to even start to hate you
You may be wondering why the case
It's because of the past that we shared
Our past… it wasn't hm I'm uncertain as to how to describe it
It was something that for sure
We saved each other countless times, didn't we?
Whatever it was from our so-called friends or ourselves
That is why I love you and don't at the same time
I hope you understand

Let Your Wings Take Flight

Never let somebody take
Talk bad about you or shake
The happiness out of you
Leaving you saddened and blue
These people don't have a clue
Whatever they plan to do
Will just bounce off you as they
Keep trying most everyday
To make you fall apart and be
Full of pain and misery
But if you are strong and tough
Their actions wont seem so rough
Listen to your heart and try
Letting wonderful wings fly
Up above the hurt that might
Ground your wings from taking flight
Let them soar so high and proud
Above all the noisy crowd
That don't understand how each
Of us needs to try and reach
Deep inside, be who you are
Shining like the brightest star
Not to ever be burned out
From the hatred thrown about
