I've never been to Ireland—
never seen the patchwork landscape
spreading, green, through a hazy sunlight.
Gray oceans crashing on rocky shores,
craggy mountains climbing
toward billowing skies—
I have never seen.
But the blood that now courses through me
has fed the hearts of Irish men and women.
They have spoken in the sing-song Gaelic tongue
and danced to raucous, rhythmic tunes
in a country pub.
Their eyes have scanned the clovered fields,
and they have savored the salted vapor
of the Irish sea.
Perhaps one day I will travel so far
and visit the storied land
of my ancestors.
And when I see
those emerald fields
and taste the salty breeze,
I will know
that I am
home.
We spent the day at Grandpa’s house.
At bedtime, as we would often do,
By the fireplace we did rendezvous
While Grandpa stoked his corncob pipe.
When he leaned back his rocking chair
And asked with a wink of his eyes:
“Anyone like to hear a story?”
“Yes, yes, yes,” we all would then cry.
We never knew quite what he would do
Much less whatever he would say.
Some stories were gory; some sad.
Most were happy and none were bad.
From ‘neath bushy brows he scanned us.
“Want a tale of ghosts, not scary?”
We were just a little wary
And yet we said, “Yes, yes, yes!”
“Well, early one morn, Papa ghost
Came home from his favorite haunt
Where he had worked, until exhaust,
Then struggled home, a-feeling gaunt.
Well, early is late for a ghost
So, his wife and son were off to bed.
With a snack, his wife had left a note
‘Today, Junior learned his first word.
He’ll surprise you with it later!’
He ate his food; then got some more
Out of the refrigerator.
He ate until his belly swore.”
“Oh, Grandpa, you know it didn’t really!”
“Just wait until you’re his age gang.
Your stomach can give you a bang!
Anyway, Your Papa Ghost,
Cleaned up the kitchen; doused the lights
Walked upstairs like he would always do,
Then he nearly hit the ceiling
Because his ghastly son yelled, ‘Boo!’”
You saw the lines weren't too long
so you went for the gas first--
spend a little time, save a lot of
money you thought. But it took
longer than you expected [too
many 'tank's as you call SUVs
filling up their 50 gallon tanks]
so by the time you went into the
giant store, you were feeling like
a crab trapped in a net as you
wrestled through the weekend
army of bargain hunters....
Finally at home, you plopped
down in your comfy chair as
the nightly news came on and
sipped fresh brewed French
roast and ate a piece of rich
chocolate cake you bought at
Costco and felt a bit sad for
those poor people in Ukraine
as you watched war in hi-def....
Still, the thoughts uppermost in
your mind as your eyes scanned
so many dead bodies lying quiet
in the streets like stones thrown
randomly was just how damn
good the coffee was and how
much you had saved going to
the big box store....
And thus began their heroic journey through the fantastical labyrinth of the escape room, where every twist and turn carried the promise of freedom, laughter, and the unforeseen—the perfect remedy for chaos and an unexpected road trip back to normalcy. After all, in a place where even a bunny could be a hero, and a Man is a Woman, anything was possible. Even a Media run Presidential Campaign supported by Big Tech, Google and the FBI !
As Penney and Gus entered the vibrant escape room, the door clicked shut behind them, "Penney parted from the impending loom, weaving her curiosity in a gape driven plume; punctuating the chaotic symphony of the mall with a sense of immediate sanctuary. The room was a kaleidoscope of interesting colors, smells—walls adorned with whimsical murals of enchanted forests, floating bubbles, and scattered stars. Even some Left Wing styled fecal graffiti, as if plastered from the hand to Trump sign out of TDS. It felt like stepping into another world, far removed from the madness outside. A home away from home !
“Okay, what’s the first clue?” Gus asked, glancing around at the eclectic decorations, which ranged from giant inflatable mushrooms to shimmering disco balls. They needed to think fast, and the first challenge awaited like a Mother given the news that the police would be escorting her child home after a bonus round of shoplifting at Castle Megastore had landed her in the "Stoney Loaf".
“Over there!” Penney exclaimed, pointing to a large, comically oversized egg perched precariously atop a pedestal. “There’s bound to be something inside!”
They approached cautiously, the soft thump of their footsteps muffled by the plush carpet that crunched as they stroke on, I mean strode on, apparently-designed to match the room's carnival theme or was it Carnivaal, Carnibaal? No matter, with a gentle push, Gus nudged the egg, and it wobbled dangerously before them. A creaky voice echoed from within, making them jump.
“Beware the wrath of the bouncing bunny, and tell Nanceycat to invest in BlackRock!”, it croaked, before the egg split open, revealing a tangle of colorful ribbons and a single, glittering key.
“Perfect!” Penney cheered, plucking the key from the chaos. “Let’s see what it unlocks.” She scanned the walls for a keyhole, eyeing an intricate door covered in glowing glyphs.
They came at dawn, no warning sound..
Just boots on concrete, bodies bound.
A flashing light, a tightened cuff..
No time to scream, no time enough.
They scanned my skin, a black ink mark..
A symbol small, but fate was stark.
No gang, no crime, no war I waged..
Yet still they locked me in this cage.
A land so far, no kin, no face..
Just iron bars and empty space.
The echoes hum, the cold walls stare..
A name reduced to numbers there.
The air is thick with cries and chains..
A past dissolved in acid rains.
I close my eyes, but home’s not near..
Just nights that whisper endless fear.
What crime is this? What lie was spun?
To steal a life before it’s run?
A mark, a stain, that’s all they see..
And now this hell is home to me.
The astral plane above knew no division of east and west,
No barbed-wire border pierced its vast expanse.
The sentry reverted his gaze swiftly back to base,
His visage firmly fixed in the dark shadows of duty.
No stellar show would dampen his resolve this night.
Binoculars raised, pernicious pistol ready
He scanned the ghostly death strip ahead .
Hostility hovered, lying in wait for a fool’s enterprise;
A daring dash for future promise.
In the distance, dogs started yelping
Searchlights scoured the pounding no-man’s land;
that bloodied blemish on freedom’s smooth pathway.
Tonight, no soul would traverse the treacherous terrain
For the stars shone too brightly up above.

Now, when we were small, we were totally sure
the stars wouldn’t move as we scanned the great sky,
and we knew enough, with no need to know more.
Did we ever question, or think to ask why?
We lay on our backs and could feel the earth move,
so why should we need to know why the sky’s blue?
The grass was all tickly, we’d nothing to prove.
Our tastes were quite simple, essentials so few.
But now that I’m older, I ask what’s my place?
And life goes around in birth, marriage, and death.
I look in the mirror now, look at my face,
and wonder what happens ‘tween first and last breath.
We circle and spin in perpetual motion
and outgoing tides are the tides of all men,
the incoming tides just the breath of the ocean
and these tides will turn and then turn once again.
So, what is this life? Is it all love or lust?
And why are we here on this merry-go-round?
Is life only ashes, then dust into dust?
Am I just a clock that’s been too tightly wound?
I know that in circles we'll spiral tonight,
as we in our universe grow and expand,
where love’s all that matters and we bask in light,
in all of creation we’ll feel The Spirit’s hand.
So, gyred and whirling, we’re here by design,
we're helixes, vortexes, one giant wheel,
created as humans, with purpose divine -
beginnings and endings will never be real.
I watched as she dropped down
that full six-foot wingspan graced the air around
that slipped in quiet, somehow silenced in the cold gray steel
and suddenly again, she was here, looking for another meal.
The great blue neck stretched up while below her leggy feet
slowly stepped as she walked toward the pond indiscrete.
Her visit came too often
and my heart could no longer be softened
for her hunger and her need
had well depleted most of my fish and their seed.
Still, she stepped methodic around the edge
eyeing close the waters for some movement along the ledge
slowly I rose as she stepped closer in to look some more
but with caution, she scanned my figure in the door.
Reluctant and defiant she stood beneath the net
as I yelled admonishment at her brazen gaze met
she was defiant and stood her ground
until thru the door raced my little doxie hound.
Then with an elongated step, she flew away
leave it to my dog to save the day.

"Time flies when you are having fun"
Well, time has definitely flies in front of me.
It has been exactly one year,
Since we first met.
Amazingly, I still vividly remember how that day unfolded.
How we struck a beautiful friendship.
That Wednesday morning, I went to this place,
In a room, full of electronic equipments.
I scanned the L shaped benches.
You stood out in the crowd,
A light green khaki jacket, and a beanie on your head,
You hunched over your electronic device,
Which placed in front of a computer.
I clearly remember, how I started my first words.
"Excuse me sir, may I have this seat, please".
Quickly, you said "Of course, it is all yours".
You stood up and moved away from the swirlving chair.
I then realised, you had lot of belongings to pack.
I changed my mind and walked away.
Not before I said, "Don't worry about it.
You came first, you have the right to use it"
I did not know why, but at the time,
I felt I should be fair and act like a lady.
I left the place and back in another day.
Over the next six months.
We became two close friends.
We met everyday and evening, except Sunday.
In the same room and also at my private place.
One evening, during a casual chatting,
You told me, you also remembered our first meeting.
Of course, you should never forget,
Because you almost lost your seat,
If I had insisted taking it.
I shall never forget that day.
And all of those followed.
Went to St Richards early today
Had an appointment so that was okay
The problem is this; I went in with a hernia
But when I came out... I had hyperthermia
Whilst no radiator did radiate heat
And I was laid out like a chilled cut of meat
The staff got abuse from a quite irate geyser
‘I'm going to Iceland to sit in the freezer’
They prodded and scanned me right down to my toes
And broke off the icicle hung from my nose
They asked if I'd registered my next of kin
I said, ‘That's her there with the goosebumpy skin’
When they lifted my gown and asked me to cough
They snapped what they thought was an icicle off
The chill numbed the pain as they whipped off my wheener
So I went in as Terry and came out as Tina
