Queen Alexandra

a post from 2014
for my beautiful granddaughter, Alexandra

After 13 days of confinement,
a caterpillar broke out of her butterfly egg,
Then ate the shell and pipevine leaf,
upon which it was laid,
A small fuzzy caterpillar,
with red spikes sticking out her sides and top,
She noticed on her middle,
a bright yellow colored spot-

Pipevine plants are toxic,
to things that are alive,
But for Queen Alexandra,
they would help her to survive,
These leaves would be her food source –
a repellent to her foes,
And if a predator caught her,
they’d vomit up and go-

Queen Alexandra wondered,
where on earth she might be,
Glancing at a tree canopy,
1,300 feet above the sea,
She noticed the thick greenery,
covering all the ground below,
And knew that only in a rainforest,
could this kind of vegetation grow-

Queen Alexandra didn’t know the name,
Papua New Guinea,
The tropical rainforest home,
to the largest butterflies that be,
Loggers destroying habitat,
collectors catching this species fast,
Predictions for her family –
only until the year 2021 to last-

Queen Alexandra as a caterpillar,
ate and grew for 120 days,
Shedding her skin six times was work,
not any fun or play,
Then she tightly clung
to the underside of a pipevine leaf,
And changed into a pupa,
the outside hardening as a protective sheath-

Inside changing her looks,
” metamorphosis” in her safe cocoon,
Forty days later emerging as a butterfly,
in hours long before noon,
Her 12 inch wings were mostly brown,
with pale yellow hues,
Her brother’s wings were smaller,
with streaks of iridescent blue-

So flying up they joined a group –
Queen Alexandra and her brother,
A gathering of butterflies together, you see,
is referred to as a “flutter,”
For about three months they’d fly,
at the top of the tree canopy,
This endangered “Queen Alexandra” Butterfly,
a beautiful rarity to see!

Put purring sounds around me, yes, I'm the apple of your eye.
Your furry form is always warm, your purr is a lull-a-bye
Arms and legs entwine us, so strong, Mime and brother Sy
around a dreamy place we lay and picture summertime.
Me and Mama [Molly] cuddle with our wee Tom cat
like balls we bounce and then pounce 'till Mama tells us scat!
The glaring's* full of mischief rivalry and combat,
Circle round see what we've found, it flies, why it's a gnat!
Round we go till dinner time, then back we go like that
The bosom warm, the cuddly form of our sweet Molly cat
Sun up, sun down, this is the life of Sy and Mime cat-lets.

*group of cats is referred to as a "clowder" or a "glaring",a male cat is called a "tom"
a female is called a "molly"...I named the girl Kitten Mime ;)

The camel musk entered my tent today
a quiet sand storm arouse the warm
wind settled outside white garments
blew in the breeze i could hardly collect

myself my thoughts were on American
things like Antonio's pizza why I'd mastered
nano breads pita pockets honey dipping
peppermint tea with lemon grass aroma

soaring though out brass tea cups my mind
focused completely locked and loaded I suppose
although it is definitely going to to take some
time getting use being referred to as SGT when

all I wanted to do was curl up with my diary
and my kitten mittens i sure miss mittens being
so far away in the middle east on guard duty
missing my family my friends even my noisy

neighbors i miss the buses the trains the cold
cold nights wrapped in fleece hands hiding in
my faux **** things were different around here
unusually quiet for a war zone I'm torn from

college days my two best friends were from Tripoli
the other from West Bank i sit outside Jerusalem
wondering what my friends are doing back in America
eating toast reading poetry wait I here something

what a pleasant surprise a tiny kitten here now
in the middle east hello there I'll call you Jaguar
funny meeting you here I'm no longer lonely
can't wait to take you back home to America

Tough Times Don’t last
(But Blessed People Do)

First, came “The Widow Maker,”
three days later, Sudden Cardiac Arrest.
Only eight percent survive,
this terrifying test.

I lay comatose for five days,
facing my final just rewards.
But the battle wasn’t mine,
 it was the Lord’s.

Doctors had told my wife,
it’s unlikely he’ll survive.
But Jesus threw me a rope,
and two years later, I’m alive.

I keep telling my story,
hoping it never gets stale,
About God rescuing me,
from the belly of my whale.

Doctors started referring to me as the Protected one,
Miracle man, a fighter, and one even referred to me as Lazarus.
God is Good!

The more times my mind rehearses this
the stronger my faith becomes.

Keats Nightingale

Keats’ Nightingale

The romantic poets were too early to postulate total atheism,
And so freshened up the church by aligning god with nature,
And I believe they had a preference for nature over god or theism,
Because they never posit him as social with high, tall stature.

Keats says that the nightingale exemplifies nature as active,
As bestowing upon all human beings meaning, sense and worth,
Since the bird’s song objectifies how nature truly is effective,
Fulfilled by happiness, and aimed at contentment and rebirth.

Nature triggers in us thoughts and words to settle and allure,
Offers us our language to dispel pain and find the cure,
And Keats contends that poetry, the credibility of its form,
Epitomises what nature proffers, a receptacle rather warm.

When you feel awkwardly suicidal with nowhere else to turn,
Nature lullabies you into your own sense, one you can rip and burn;
No controlled access freeways, no road signs for your safety,
Only soft, quiet communication that's never guilty of brevity.

Just as nature is beautiful, so Keats claims people as beautiful too,
As he uses the word beauty right in the middle of his nature exposé;
He referred to flora, the moon, the stars, the forest and what seems true,
Tnat song of the nightingale that's for anyone, as this bird is not choosey.

He suggests that light or positivity in nature means movement,
That the soft breeze dispels the gloom and mossy pavement;
Quantum physics does reduce matter back down to interactive particles,
In which kinetic energy can be mistaken for minuscule, motionless articles.

His mentor is the nightingale as part of nature’s whole,
No minister or clergyman to advise him on his soul,
Stillness and bird song scent his poisoned air surrounding,
And it is all but for the silence of that beauteous music, astounding.

Nature does not irritate him when he surmises and introspects,
But upholds itself in majestic grandeur with unquestionable prospects;
It speaks about life, your life, your daily happenings and exotic dreams,
And forever exists for us when sense is just not within our means.

Love that character!
Told it like it was with no barrier.
Called people names when they deserved
a well-deserved acronym.
A detective, he was referred to then,
It was not a PC sin.

Not likto or~be called a low life or a
pig today.
Just shot dead, like pigeons of clay.
Terrified to shoot evil men dead.
But, of course the PC crowd, as ever,
Cheers!
Having lost their heads.Too many beers?

Today a policeman is a little boy with
a weak weapon in a teeny car.
He's watched by the PC idiots in any
move he makes and so....
Criminals run US cities, they murder, rape
and are on the take.

Never would happen if Dirty Harry were
here.
The ignominy of American Movie Classics,
to remove Dirty Harry's best lines.
Whilst the innocent Americans are shot dead
daily.
Ya, thanks, media you lost your heads and
scoured our brains, that now read both
....vacuous and empty.

Your heroes are the scumbags in Congress;
plain lawless and high paid as can be!
Ruining the Constitution with impunity.
They don't have the courage of Dirty
Harry!
They are plain thieves with no guns,
Who take our money and our basic
freedoms with zero integrity, having
great fun.

Sadly, giving all money Americans earn,
to all all whether born here or not,
Shouting......
"Sure come on in from every nation- the
iron is hot! Take all we've got!"
Some Americans do think our country is an
endless honey pot!
Till one day, our children and we will live in
~a country and a place that time forgot!

Battle royal for love

So many beauties to choose from,
None could be referred to as scum.
They becloud my sense of duties ~
To choose from, so many beauties

Many of them wear their smiles proud,
My sense of duties they becloud.
Their hearts beg for true love and care.
Their smiles proud, many of them wear.

The love I will give, none can peg,
For true love and care, their hearts beg.
My sin of lust, they will forgive.
None can peg the love I will give.

I have to earn their love and trust,
They will forgive my sin of lust.
To be loyal, my heart will learn ~
Their love and trust, I have to earn.

To win in this battle royal,
My heart will learn to be loyal.
I will discard lust as a sin,
In this battle royal, to win.

Premium Member Fish Lips

My father had a Dick Tracy nose,
sometimes referred to as Roman,
beneath which were his thick, full lips.
His fraternal twin, on the other hand, had thin lips
(Genes are strange things.).
I don’t know where on the family tree either inherited them,
but I do know that my father’s proved dominant:
I have them,
my daughter does,
(I no longer have any idea what her mother’s were like.),
my son does.

I was never aware that mine were my father’s until,
upon seeing a photo of her grandfather,
whom she never knew,
my daughter remarked that he had “fish lips”
like hers and like mine.
I showed her a photo of her half-brother,
whom she barely knew then,
and, yes, there they were.

There are many traits that my father imparted to me.
Sadly, not all were as wonderful as his fish lips.
But I’ve been told more than once
that my kisses are soft and sensual.
What more can I ask?
