Have you ever met someone where everything just clicked but then, for whatever tragic reason?
They just disappeared?
The Calling
(A lone male, clutching an old photograph at midnight. Whispers, as a single white prayer candle burns)
Let me in
I whisper into this rising grey smoke
Let its wispy tendrils carry up my plea's to wherever you are
No matter how far
Hear me
For I'm looking back at our old feverish memories, in these black and white fairground pictures
In this semi-darkness
Between these two great voids
Separating me and you and so many others
Let me in
Through the ethereal panes of shattered astral glass
Filled with tangible strands of much-loved recollections
So I can once again cross the deep oceans of the Hippocampus
Flying for days and nights in and through its episodic sunshine, and rocky shores
So I can warm you with my old love
For I will never stop looking and calling
And lighting these white prayer candles
Hoping you're listening to this
Somewhere
Wherever you are
Listening and hearing my voice reading
My heart's whispered secretive spells, which l will forever yell
In silence throughout the day and in feverish whispers at night
So let me in
Now, it's midnight
To reach that forbidden place which connects all things
The Maelstrom
But which stays hidden, as it holds you in its tight grip of a new seclusion
Especially, when everything
Just goes wrong
I can only pray my words are carried like an angels song, to make your beautiful eyes blink
By this grey smoke gushing skyward from my incense candle, in these rushing four winds
Which will help to guide me
To find a way, to try to find you again
Be it on Earth or in Heaven
So we can continue what we once found in our old lifetime

A meeting of similar minds

Why let children believe in miracles
Even though we are not faithful?
Let children turn pinot to grape juice
As Jesus did at a wedding feast
Let your child turn stones into biscuits
Prove the devil wrong with your glee
When cancer and bombs rob your love
Like Romans rolling dice for robes
When remission fails your cherub
And Jesus is out of miracles
When it’s time to roll the stone shut
As He must have felt for your child
Mary must have wailed for all of us
For our babies are now timeless
They say resurrection is impossible
Say that to mothers who witness
A holey child’s hand held by doubters
When Easter has come again
Your child ascends into memory
Deep into the hippocampus
Children live again and thrive
Even when you die
Your faith in your child lives
Outlasting your vigil
Eternal as the archer, Orion
Piercing the heart of God
Oh, the laughter
Not heard since Christ was nailed
A mother’s wail brings joy to Him
Cuz He knows you have ears to hear
Our forgotten children long gone
Waiting for resurrection
Waiting for us to awake
Waiting for a familiar hand
To bring heaven down
Hoping for revelation
Hand in hand
Back to Eden
Mark 9:37
Whoever welcomes one little child such as this in my name welcomes me. And whoever welcomes me does not welcome me, but him who sent me.
Sixty years have passed.
No one knew how to spell its name.
No one knew when it first opened.
It was forever, like the infernal summer heat.
It stands indelible at the end of my street,
at the end of my episodic hippocampus.
Everyone congregated at this cozy corner store,
this neighborhood fount for stories, jokes,
convenient food and cheap toys.
There were only a few shoplifters,
usually snarky boys slightly older than me.
They were never caught.
The guy behind the counter
never caught anything he didn’t want to see.
Perhaps the store’s namesake,
he worked slavishly, anxiously alone.
One frantic day, he spotted vomit on the floor.
Bolting into the backroom,
He returned with mop and pail
only to find the mess entirely missing.
Snickering, snarky boys hid their latex toy.
A harmless prank, some would say.
But somehow, in my tenth year
I felt sorrow for the overworked man.
Nothing ever changed.
It all lingered like the infernal summer heat,
the gripping stillness of eternal summer.
This neurotransmitter of neighborly connections,
This hub of gab and gossip,
Home to my first financial transactions,
Home to penny candy, bubblegum cards, and Mars bars.
Home to grape soda, Twinkies, and Wonder Bread.
No one knew how to spell its name.
No one knew when it permanently closed.
But the potent sugar-coated flashbacks
have lengthened my life.
Nestled under blankets,
the gentle whirring sound
soothes the savage beast
within mine body electric
of one generic, opportunistic,
and wholistic garden variety man.
Within blink of closed eye

A group of couples met for lunch—
a quick one—talked, and watched the clock.
They spoke of their demanding jobs.
Must soon get back—tick-tock, tick-tock!
So many things they used to do,
they’ve little time for nowadays,
like board-game nights with family
or helping with church Christmas plays.
They once found time to show concern
for shut-ins in the neighborhood
by doing home-repairs for free.
Those times made everyone feel good.
Some once played instruments or sang,
wrote poetry or painted scenes
from nature—talents they let die
when they were barely past their teens.

The thought of guitars never played,
piano keys not touched for years,
blank pages in a writing pad,
and unused canvases brings tears.
Imagine shut-ins with no help,
church programs falling by the way,
and game nights that don’t come to pass.
Some can’t work these into their day!
The way we use our precious gift
of time determines what will thrive
and what will not. Good stewards see
that better things in life survive.

HIPPOCAMPUS SADDLED IN DAYDREAMS
Hippocampus saddled in the vast sea, one of God’s superimposed dreams.
In miniature form these seahorses be, an aquatic burst of genius it seems.
Hippocampus in old Flossie form, spotted from the Scottish shores.
A frightful nightmare, not the norm, thus shiver in my corporeal core.
If mermaids had thighs to tighten around their bony scales,
would that they be fight’n where the shipshape sailor fails.
Seducing sirens hiss upon the sea monster’s back with songs that rage
to lead in armageddon attack, to place mankind in a flaming cage.

THE PARABLE OF THE TALENTS
The grave he dug, the monument he built.
No one saw the single coin that died so fast.
No time for a blessing, nevertheless knees stained,
In the dingy, dirty dark where seeds lambast.
On topsoil, five coins flitter between a man’s fingers.
The magician amazes the crowd, he doubles his wages.
His master will cheer him on, with soulful eyes.
Of his faithfulness, angels dictate lovely pages.
Yes, those who doubled their score whether small or great
will find favor and a hefty inheritance at the pearly gates.
But for the ones who bury their treasure and sit upon it
a sharp shovel will grovel, gripe and shape their fate.

FOUND LOVE
She looked for a luscious dark chocolate seahorse
So in our dream reality we only see us
I said, put on your four eyes & peer into the deep.
Your hippocampus! She replies even in her sleep,
Giggling and nicely she squeals
I give her the reassurance of sounds and beats
And this twisted twirl of almond thrilled to bits
Now I see her footsteps greedy for the whole chocolates
My embolden footsteps echoes inside her past tears
As I throw my next steps inside hers like spears
No need now to strive for love or ego
We found love in each other long ago
Because the good path of "friendshipation"
Will probably take you to your destination
Whether you took the first step August or before
Know what you feel and be sure
Strike a cord, pluck good understanding
With each complexity of self notwithstanding
So we ride on waves of caring,
Sharing many times of laughter, joy and tears
Sharing all our smiles, pain and fears
Sharing secrets and mysteries with listening ears
We walked 8 long intense miles to get here
Wait!! Don't analyse the reasons
Love grows in due seasons
We're still learning our lessons
In being worthy & good persons
Now the fisher & the fish entangled in the hook
Oh God I could write a book
What you see of two is not a fluke.

Hello, Sistar Sapio
Can I have a moment of your time?
I just want to express what's on my mind
I would like to know,
Can you go?
Better yet, will you come with me?
To a place where our minds can be free
My dearest, let's just zoom away
Far from here to a place of sagacious interplay
I would love for us to heave way up yonder
To a celestial space where few go and wander
A place where we can talk about 6 protons, 6 neutrons, and 6 electrons
True biology and kemistry, exploring the nature of carbon
You shine like a diamond
Beautifully glistening in my mind
An effervescent erudite
Just bubbling with light
I love the way your synapses and dendrites spark
A beaming light in a world so dark
Well-read, well-traveled and so versed in history
You turn on my love light when you speak about our story
Yes! Your elocution is second to none
Taming tongue twisters like a tornado that has spun
Sapiosexual I'm feeling...
your beautiful mind got me reeling
Your hippocampus is like a bottomless pit...
where loads and loads of information sit
Sistar Sapio, you're such an alluring cutie...
the more I see, the more I want to study
Oh
That's strange
Shh quiet
Internal system
Do you all hear that
Does it sound or seem like she
Is at peace today
Quick
Someone do something
Make her think
Of anything
To disturb and irritate
Her serene state
Quick hippocampus
Flash a memory
Of the most
Painful moment
You hold of hers in
Her safe
Hey, Heart
Make her feel
Like she can't breathe
With every beat you make
Air,
Speed up
So she has to constantly
Keep up
There now we have disrupted
Her attempt
To attend a
Sanity fair
Phew
Great work team
But wait
Is she mediating there
Hold on
I thought we paralyzed her with fear
Why is she acting
Like she has the strength
And that our old tricks
No longer work here
Hello
Internal System,
anyone there
Great,
I think I am talking to myself
I guess
She finally got help
