black velvet visioning vast void
kaleidoscopes glittering joyed
sanctified symphonies decoyed
cherubs cheer shimmering stars
darting dancing across Mars
awed are we, telescopes focus
seeing Suns burst hocus-pocus
bouncy brides in lacy locus
sky vineyards pour wine splashing
blood red hibiscus dashing
mind boggles as Darkness unfurls
penetrating strikes into pearls
goddess petals flourishing whorls
gold pistils dripping syrup
Presence is widely worshipped
ruddy fingers touch depth, pitch sing
observation salty tears bring
guide us to exalted High King
heralded by rose angels
seraphim soft enables
point piercing ignites another
quarks entangle quantum lovers
ink deep sizzles like no other
each space hollows of God's Eyes
Infinity dies then rise
•
existence an eternal tango
eating spheres orange mango
Being neither panto or nando

Iron is just awesome – let’s see!
First it was prehistoric man
Who was always an iron fan
Iron is a third of the earth
Industry is iron by birth
Pritchard designed and Darby made
Iconic Iron Bridge won’t fade
Smelt pig iron from iron ore
Produces cast iron galore
Backbone of skyscrapers, bridges
Organs of cars, washers, fridges
Clever Bessemer carbon gone
Heralded steel for everyone
Mankind’s most ingenious feat
Turning raw earth to steel – so neat!
Iron’s compounds are versatile
No wonder it’s used all the while
Inks, fertilisers, pesticides
Paints, enamels and more besides
Many iron phrases pervade
Each as an English language aid
There’s ironclad, iron curtain
Iron grip and more for certain
We need it in a small amount
For on haemoglobin we count
Open your eyes and look around
Everywhere an iron surround
Iron has magnetic appeal
First place must be iron with steel
Abounding with delightful childhood* experiences, awesome
Blessed am I by the Lord --- Source of goodness-bliss
Cheered along care-cuddles, more than candies
Doted dear daughter of Mom and Dad…
Enclosed with encompassing parents’ love everyday
Freed was I against insecurity’s forces within family joy’s fortress
Growing up through godliness-guidance and gracious grants
Heart of mine heralded happy, healthy home…
I thank and praise God for imparted inspiring influence
Jubilant siblings sharing jackets, even jokes and jeers
Kindness prevailed warmed by good night’s hugs and kisses
Lingering still until now… laughter while learning new language.
Memories of grade school age moved me toward merriment-mirth
Novel discoveries: names, nations, needs never to neglect, so numerous
Opened my mind to opportunities’ offerings for knowledge-optimization
Prepared, propped and propelled me to what and who am I now as a person.
*1Corinthians13:11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

7th place, "Childhood Memories" Poetry Contest
Sponsored by Chantelle Anne Cooke; judged on 7/10/2019.
When reading heralded lines
I feel I am betraying
a poetic brotherhood
that seems, always, to be
making much of little:
a scrap, a comment (about a bird, perhaps --
or a comparison of a worm in the dirt
to some far-fetched abstraction.)
The humanity we all should share feels
sorely lacking. And clumsy, pathetic
grappling to elevate the lowly
to a semblance of earned achievement
(and not succeeding)
demeans us all.
"Mea culpa! Ibi dixit."
(I too am guilty. There, I've said it.)
The Cost of Eternal Forgetting
It seems between us beats a silver bell lined with blue silk,
there exists a separation from our very selves, with fate in this silence of crystal,
what we dream in the long nights seems a memory that drifts ever farther,
the days flow into transparent months, then years, perish like smoke in the wind.
What am I to understand from this long waiting, that everything scattered into forgetting?
Sometimes I feel ancient wolves tearing my dreams like a faded canvas,
I advance through narrow paths, through a nameless and boundless slum,
devoid of meaning without you, you, the one heralded since childhood by elders.
We haven't seen each other for many whole months, but I love you with despair and melancholy,
a solitary descender into the cellar of memory with a trembling candle in hand,
like a sailor at the wedding table, covered with seashells and marine algae,
from a sunken ship, a mystery of the ocean deep and silent.
Youth and life perish slowly for us, you're silent far away, waiting becomes torment,
it becomes itself a form of prolonged existence without hope of an ending.
Look into the eyes of the people of the aged city, who are silent, for they carry the weight of sorrow,
believe them at least, who gaze into the dry earth and understand why
the roosters of the metropolis no longer herald the morning in any sunrise.
And if we ever find each other again, won't the miracle be too great for us?
Will there still be anyone to understand it as a rare miracle? Will we still be useful to each other?
Only God can know the answer to this ancient question...
Perhaps fragile as we've become, we'll fall melted by its too-great heat
and in our place will remain a sad legend, as a parable of non-fulfillment, forever.
“There’s a special providence in the fall of a sparrow.” Shakespeare in Hamlet

Augury
As the shine of the sun sets down
In the far away horizon
In villages as in the towns
And dusk stealthily makes its dawn,
The sky awhile pivots to pink
While clouds wafted by woeful winds
Seem in the firmament to blink
Racing across the sky with spleen.
Does the pink sky augur a storm,
Tempest, typhoon or tornado
That may buildings and trees deform
Without a tinkle of ado!
Does it herald devastation
Of fauna and flora on land,
Of harvest and cultivation
And rocking of boats on the sand!
Nature seems to have its own way
To admonish human beings
To hold their boats firmly at bay
And arouse their inner feelings
To keep those near and dear to them
In safety and security
Until the end of the mayhem
Heralded by the augury.
To scoff inklings of such omens
Is to invite spates of worries
From the clutches of a demon,
Let one`s ship sink in the deep sea,
Allow storms to set one`s house flat,
Disregard clues from the divine,
Let the wild winds whip off one`s hat
And snub signals from the sublime.

(Dumarao… Rizal Day)
*“Our Sunrise During Marcos” collection
As the reaper approached, I lie waiting for death,
whispering sad goodbyes while gasping for breath.
In a blurry haze of awareness, I drift towards sleep,
as visions of childhood days in my mind slowly creep.
I hear muffled sobs of loved ones as they weep.
There's a shadowy presence flying high overhead,
those scavengers of death, those that I most dread.
Their beady black eyes intent on watching my face,
circling around and around. It's a feast they chase,
ebon wing feathers falling as they hasten their pace.
I've need of sanity, so I close my eyes and pretend
I'm walking on a summer day with my best friend.
We're chasing tadpoles and sloshing in streams,
laughing as our skin turns bronze from sunbeams,
then I wake to realize that these were but dreams.
My memories are fading, and my lips feel numb.
To eternity's slumber, I will soon succumb.
I asked someone near me to chase them away...
She bent close and whispered, "What did you say?"
"The vultures circling me. Please keep them at bay."
Clusters of tenebrous clouds obscured the sunlight.
I heard raucous calls of the damned vultures in flight.
Oh, how I begged for their tormenting caws to cease,
for only then would I live my last moments in peace.
I heralded silence then welcomed life's release.

We Want It All Free
We are not grateful for God's nutritious food.
We complain and moan about taste, and price~
thinking we live in some free neighborhood.
We want rent-free houses and free Covid money,
Even if not ill, we think the government owes us
a land of milk and honey.
We all should wear beards and dress like Fidel Castro.
If he were alive...why Fidel would be our intelligent
Maestro!(Cuban for teacher.)
Drive horrid cars, live on 300 a month?
Government run only businesses.
No Capitalism allowed, for free-loading speed bumps!
I worry for the USA, all masked up, becoming such
obedient sheep!
A government throwing statues, the Bill of Rights, and
the Beloved Constitution into the deep.
To have real ambition?
Something is wrong with you!
You will be locked away in the new Freedom Zoo.
Obedient little ants are we,
following all laws to the letter.
While police are jailed, when they try to make life better.
Break any law, why you will be on TV, magazine covers
and heralded as the latest hero!
Follow all laws~your due process taken away...
spending your life in jail, billed as a big fat zero
