Bicycle Playing Cards

Around since 1885,
These playing cards contain
A fascinating history
That Google helped obtain.

My favorite fact’s from World War II.
(It’s more than rumored lore.)
Some special decks were sent as gifts
To prisoners of war.

These U.S. soldiers, held in camps
In Germany, did learn
That moistening the cards would yield
A map for their return.

Escape routes cleverly concealed
Within the layered cards
Would likely not be noticed by
The German soldier guards.

In Vietnam, as well, some decks
With only Ace of Spades,
Were sent to the Americans
To use in jungle raids.

The Viet Cong were so afraid
Of how this Ace appeared,
Just seeing one would make them flee
So villages were cleared.

While we are playing Solitaire,
Casino, War or Spit,
We should remember how those cards
Helped troops, if just a whit.

Premium Member Biting the Dust In Atlantic City

It is horrible news for any business entity
if an outfit is forced into a bankruptcy.
There is no immunity even in the casino industry.
Another one bites the dust here in Atlantic City.
After the thirteenth day of the month of January,
the southernmost place on the boardwalk will be history.
Due to the economic climate and increased competition,
any enterprise can fall into a precarious situation.
Apparently unable to meet its current obligations,
a hotel has been told to cease its operations.
We will be saying goodbye after over thirty years.
Apparently, only hotel employees will be shedding tears.

Premium Member Congratulations 2019 Is the Expectant Year

Congratulations!
2019 is the expectant year.
You will get a baby, if you are expecting one.
If you are expecting to say "no" to a puppy, but you have an
eight-year-old who wants one, and you are not firm, you might
get one, so expect this to possibly happen.
You will get a vibrancy and fun-filled life, if you think you will.

You will lose all of your money at a casino, if you believe in losing.
If you do not expect to lose, you have a shot at maybe enough money
to buy a pair of hot pink jogging pants with the words Treasure Island running up the leg in fancy schmancy rhinestones..
If you expect them to fall apart in the washer, they will though.

If you expect to get run over by a truck, well, that can also happen.
2019 is the expectant year, after all.

Premium Member Pawn Shop Gas Station

In the Spanish language, it means “The Meadows”.
To this desert oasis, many a gambler goes.
There are hotels with restaurants and fabulous shows.
However, the biggest attraction is the casinos.

They drive from as far as Los Angeles and San Diego.
Plenty of cash is dumped in each casino.
With no more money, gamblers cannot roam.
There is no other place to go but home.

The one thing to do is to depart this scene.
Unfortunately, they need a tank of gasoline.
Filling stations have strange inventories of stock.
Penniless victims go there to pawn and hock.
There are watches, cameras, and diamond rings.
They have loads of gold jewelry and other things.
In the near future, these visitors will return.
History will repeat as if they will not learn.

Premium Member Watering the Garden of Dreams

Cashing in my savings bonds
and tapping out my bank accounts,
got me into a high stakes poker game
in a Las Vegas casino.
Emboldened by my knack for winning
Texas Hold 'em online,
I dove straight into the deep waters
where it's sink or swim, with whales and sharks.
Gambling's an additive rush
that offers instantaneous gratification
found only in the thrill of taking risks,
and I can hardly wait to wet my toes.
I get dealt an ace of clubs
with an ace of diamonds down,
but the flop's flushing with hearts.
And the bluffing commences,
with ruthless, aggressive bids.
Not here to play it safe,
I call all in!
But, no sooner had the words left my mouth,
when I got called with a pair of kings, and one is a heart!
Fear seized me, griping my spine like a vice
as the ace of hearts lands on the turn,
and a flush is now on the table.
But lady luck rowed in on the river,
and the ace of spades fell in Her wake,
giving me a miraculous, heart-pounding win.
And climbing on top of an adrenaline rush
I make it rain,
watering the garden of my dreams
with hundred dollar bills.

Premium Member Wall Street

The New York Exchange is located on Wall Street.
Here in Lower Manhattan, business people meet.
Between opening and closing bells in each day’s course,
millions of corporate shares are traded on this bourse.
As company equities change hands on the Big Board,
investors from all over seek to reap their reward.

Whenever there are more participants who buy,
the prices of company stocks can go quite high.
Some large fortunes can be made when “buy” is the word.
Then it is a question of common or preferred.
However, when orders are coming in to sell,
falling stock prices to some people can be hell.
Do not always panic if bad occurs here.
Handsome rewards can come to those who persevere.

There is always that “quick killing” people want to see.
Those things are more fiction than fact, unfortunately.
Making money can be a true realization.
You must be in for the long run, not speculation.
Seek the successful firms for capitalization.
Knowledge and patience are what all people should know.
If you want to gamble, go to a casino.

Premium Member The New Normal

The new normal is the weirdest game in town.
If I was out there at all, I’d wear my mask all around.
I have been sheltered in place since March, to the store twice.
I have not seen my grandchildren, or thrown casino dice.

The new normal is a division in my family incredibly wide.
One not liking the USA dictator, another ignoring his dangerous stride.
We are barely speaking, for the red and blue is tearing us apart.
We have forgotten to be nice to each other, or kind in our heart.

The new normal is seeing everyone on visual, working from homes.
Being on Zoom and Google Meet, but having more time to write poems.
Not seeing friends has given me extra time to work on my canvases too.
I spend many hours choosing the right purples, pinks, yellows and blues.

The new normal at first seemed weird to understand, but I opted for healthy.
I have not been to a store in seven weeks, and my bank account is wealthy.
I am paying down my house much faster than I ever expected with extra money.
So this pandemic has had a few side benefits that for me have been kind of a honey.

Madame Caillaux, Part 5 of 7

(The husband of Henriette is in a casino, playing
roulette, and not especially concerned about her
plight. The Hotel Dieux is a hospital alongside
Notre Dame Cathedral, in downtown Paris.)

5. Joseph Caillaux

When? The chips are down. This is a marriage,
this black and red. Rien ne va plus, he said!
Let's go! We came here in a horseless carriage,
tonight we'll have the sidewalk for a bed.

(My little joke.) What's that you say, mon vieux?
The Tax Bill? That's how politicians play it.
(This wheel will put me in the Hôtel Dieu!)
A private confidence -- you don't betray it.

A public face (it can't be otherwise)
is oftentimes at variance with the private.
But Calmette's type are sneakers, peekers, spies,
would wreck a man (and frequently contrive it!)

Mon brave, I'm not the man to fight a duel.
You risk your life, your health, or prosecution --
for what? You lose, you're dead. You win, you fuel
the anger of your foes. It's no solution.

She said she would. (I'll spin, and win for us!)
I've long since left off thinking of it. (Thus!)

Pretty Maggie Money Eyes

A smoky casino the shadows dance,
A lonely gambler takes one last chance.
With a defeated heart and pockets bare,
He stands before the machine, unaware.
Her whispers weave through the neon glow,
A siren's song in a world of woe.

Spin me let our fortunes collide,
She is a ghost from the past that he can't outride.
She’s haunting this metal with eyes like coal
A heartless dealer playing for his soul
One last dollar to light up the night,
A gambler’s curse wrapped in delight.

Maggie was born in shadows, where dreams fell apart,
A queen of despair with a broken heart.
Her final moments on her final day,
She fed her desires as her life slipped away.
She is now trapped in a cage of silver and gold,
She waits for her lover—so desperate and cold.

Spin me let our fortunes collide,
A ghost from the past that he can’t outride.
She’s haunting this metal with eyes like coals
A heartless dealer playing for his soul
One last dollar to light up the night,
A gambler’s curse wrapped in delight.

When he pulls that lever and feels his luck rise
A smile spreads wide as he gazes at lies;
“Just one more hit,” she whispers so sweet
But love turns to dust beneath victory's heat.

Lights flash bright as he takes off his mask,
Forgetting her sorrow within every task;
His heart starts racing, it can't take much more
As she dances around him like flames on the floor.

Spin me, oh spin me, let our fortunes collide,
A ghost from the past that he can’t outride.
She’s haunting this metal with eyes like coal
She is a heartless dealer playing for his soul
One last dollar to light up the night,
She is this gambler’s curse wrapped in delight.

In echoes of laughter where silence once lay;
The gambler falls hard when he plays it her way
His spirit now bound to the machine evermore
Maggie smiles at him laying on the casino floor

~I don't need, In case you haven't heard~

I don't need to strip for no crown, unless you desire large breast
Casarah, there's no need to be deluded by money hungry psychics,
Reading leaves from a tea cup, a misguided fortune of bribes
Can't you see satin gold already streams through my veins
It's not about wanting it bad or how low I would go
I don't need to threaten you or order dominoes
Never would I clean or do your chores,
Rather, I bet you look good dressed as a French Maid
Cleaning and writing around the beauty of everything
Forget the honorable mention, I want first place
This is your week, blank out the pretenders, fakers and haters
They will never have your back once the contest close
As for me, you've been on my dinner plate, since day one
I don't need a grammar base pen, rhyme pattern to win
What I got is hotter, by far the best rates on everything
I don't need Jan to be my friend, Andrea, to address me with a hello
What I have is satisfaction and loyalty everywhere I go.
I got flaws hotter than the sun, strutting my stuff just for you

No need to scratch my back, what we need is a back massage for two
Calgon will give us the youth Greek Gods can't top in 60 seconds
Unwrap yourself from Broken vines, it's time you deal with--
a moon as gold as every word you ever poured from your pen
Let's enjoy the Groveling moon, together we can enslave and take control
You don't need a genie lamp, you are worth more than diamonds and pearls
Together we can toss that lamp back into the Silent of the shadows
Before, greed becomes a misery --- Casarah darling
I got to admit 1,000.000.000 dollars sounds decent
Too bad, Michael's check bounced before it had a chance
Together let's take these sweet little bribes and make the world of it
Flip the bird, burn down all abandon houses
Built another strong community, wait, something is amiss!
Someone owes a gambling debt, coming to you with casino chips
Casarah, I'm not trying to please your mind, or give voice to my bride
I don't NEED to give what you already earn in your honest way
What I want is to win, no attorney needed - I rest my case
