The New York Exchange is located on Wall Street.
Here in Lower Manhattan, business people meet.
Between opening and closing bells in each day’s course,
millions of corporate shares are traded on this bourse.
As company equities change hands on the Big Board,
investors from all over seek to reap their reward.

Whenever there are more participants who buy,
the prices of company stocks can go quite high.
Some large fortunes can be made when “buy” is the word.
Then it is a question of common or preferred.
However, when orders are coming in to sell,
falling stock prices to some people can be hell.
Do not always panic if bad occurs here.
Handsome rewards can come to those who persevere.

There is always that “quick killing” people want to see.
Those things are more fiction than fact, unfortunately.
Making money can be a true realization.
You must be in for the long run, not speculation.
Seek the successful firms for capitalization.
Knowledge and patience are what all people should know.
If you want to gamble, go to a casino.

LOVE
By Leon Enriquez

Love owns my heart
Where hope finds start
As faith moves art

Love wears a face
So full of grace
In time and space

~~~~~~~~~
Love is the way
To live each day
In work and play
Love is a gift
That now uplifts
The lore you sift
~~~~~~~~~

Love ever binds
What heart here finds
True peace of mind

Love and love more
Upon these shores
With lavish stores

~~~~~~~~~
Love comes to call
To one and all
In sweet and gall
Love knows your name
In life’s fond game
Now just the same
~~~~~~~~~

Love shows the way
Through night and day
As kind grace stays

Love ever styles
Moments worthwhile
With lovely smiles

~~~~~~~~~
Love anchors thought
As feelings slot
Act in calm lot
Love funds all chimes
In space and time
As echoes rhyme
~~~~~~~~~

Love shows up here
Bright atmosphere
Now crystal clear

Love shapes all stuff
So learn to laugh
More than enough

~~~~~~~~~
Love sparkles fest
In journey quest
As zeal marks zest
Love keeps each face
In sacred space
With fond embrace
~~~~~~~~~

Love charts the course
Of profound cause
In life’s stern bourse

Love channels hope
To help us cope
As faith sculpts scope

~~~~~~~~~
Premium Member Life Looming
The warp and the weft, repeating the beat
The weave of the ware of the fabric of life
What's looming? What's left? What pattern repeats
In this tapestry seems to be sweetness or strife
Shuttling between them's emotional whiplash
A journey in learning the middle is midrash
Extremes between seams can leave something coarse
The coin of the realm, from barter to bourse
The subtleties woven and worn of whole cloth
Become torn and tattered when the weaver is wroth
Weaving's deceiving if not done in good faith
Leaving a tale more frail than the wraith
But if the tapestry woven is living with care
Not mediocre but choosing what's apt
The tale leaves a pattern not tattered or bare
And a story that's left the reader enrapt
Etch profound gaze upon these shores,
Zest feeds courage beyond mere chance;
Ask to know maze and grow some more,
Grow sound message to greet the dance.
Do with fond feel with focus grand,
Dream funds appeal as firm strokes blend;
Obsess pure will to sparkle trends.
Truth has sure say in what may be,
Feel and live then that burning fire;
Echo each day sure pulse set free,
Love knows just when fate meets desire.
Work well the fate in your own hands,
Expect due date to bless you friend,
Yes dare to plate what practice sends.
Note that sure flair in touch that traps,
Allow each gate to ease pretence;
Use each affair to seed thought wrap,
Keep clear of hate that hurts your sense.
Effect true cause in what springs due,
Exult bold course with profound hues;
Live that sure bourse as thought floods cue.
Will that pure zest to work your best,
Offer to be the dream come true;
Notice dream quest that sums your fest,
Know what you see to be just you.
Meet moments meek that frame fond poise,
Yield in clear trance the way love grows.
Joy journeys jest as wit greets choice,
Opt thus your chance to sync with flow;
Urge precious feel to show just how,
Reap what you sow to effect cause;
Note kind goodwill right here and now,
Etch light that glows the journey bourse;
Yes to the thought of truth lovely.
Join with pure grace the passage crisp,
Observe fond lot in wise beauty;
Use flavours race in message brisk,
Rest in the light of healing grace;
Now watch soul flight through time and space,
Ask for wise sight to flood your face;
Love honours plight to sketch your place.
Words fail
To fund ease
In lapsed peace
That unveils
Joy bleeds
Quest of bourse
In lost cause
Where pain seeds
Faith dies
To harsh fear
That drowns cheer
In odd sigh
Hope drains
In lost way
Where dark days
Breed more pain
Once good
Now feels sick
In blown wick
Of dead mood
Vile squeeze
Of blown wit
In stray bits
Toss cold sneeze
Wet tears
Tell in vain
Of sad pain
Void of cheer
No more
Poise of choice
To seed voice
As gall pours
End game
Death culls best
Breath of zest
In nude name
SARTORIAL
I went through my clothes the other day
Yes, some are well-worn, others quite new
They represent styles from both extremes
Living, or once lived, a varied life it seems
Can one assume identity from such a view
Maybe clothing choices have much to say
Formal suits on hangers in protective covers
The smarter are even in the tuxedo fashion
One even with a strictly grey striped trouser
White shirts, a formality unlikely to arouse her
But the wing collars may suggest little passion
As stiff necks are quite rare between lovers
A few checked shirts, almost lumberjack style
With a couple of casual jackets, almost sporty
Several predictable business suits, of course
Useful for financial meetings at the Bourse
Almost a City uniform after the age of forty
Occasionally may even raise an ironic smile
Then there are several Caribbean floral shirts
And various T-shirts with a holiday destination
An old style raincoat bought many decades ago
It might still look good and fit me, you know
A college striped scarf reminiscent of graduation
The memory of those younger days still hurts
There’s a woollen jumper and a hooded anorak
Chinos and a pair of jeans that I’ve never worn
Knee rips and faded denim was never for me
With all those echoes of nineteen seventy three
I wish my current extra pounds were still brawn
But then clothes can bring all the memories back
Rejection Slips 4
Rejection Slips 4
Editor's Notes
by Michael R. Burch
Eat, drink and be merry
(tomorrow, be contrary).
( and complain
in bad refrain,
but please, not till I'm on the plane!)
Write no poem before its time
(in your case, this means never).
Linger over every word
(by which, I mean forever).
By all means, read your verse aloud.
I'm sure you'll be a star
(and just as distant, when I'm gone);
your poems are beauteous (afar).
Less Heroic Couplets: Rejection Slip
by Michael R. Burch
pour Melissa Balmain
Whenever my writing gets rejected,
I always wonder how the rejecter got elected.
Are we exchanging at the same Bourse?
(Excepting present company, of course!)
I consider the term “rejection slip” to be a double entendre. When editors reject my poems, did I slip up, or did they? Is their slip showing, or is mine?
Ode to Postmodernism, or, Bury Me at St. Edmonds!
by Michael R. Burch
"Bury St. Edmonds—Amid the squirrels, pigeons, flowers and manicured lawns of Abbey Gardens, one can plug a modem into a park bench and check e-mail, files or surf the Web, absolutely free."—Tennessean News Service. (The bench was erected free of charge by the British division of MSN, after a local bureaucrat wrote a contest-winning ode of sorts to MSN.)
Our post-modernist-equipped park bench will let
you browse the World Wide Web, the Internet,
commune with nature, interact with hackers,
design a virus, feed brown bitterns crackers.
Discretely-wired phone lines lead to plugs—
four ports we swept last night for nasty bugs,
so your privacy's assured (a threesome's fine)
while invited friends can scan the party line:
for Internet alerts on new positions,
the randier exploits of politicians,
exotic birds on web cams (DO NOT FEED!) .
The cybersex is great, it's guaranteed
to leave you breathless—flushed, free of disease
and malware viruses. Enjoy the trees,
the birds, the bench—this product of Our pen.
We won in with an ode to MSN.
