We’re not supposed to be this way.
Us 60 year olds.
When I was a teen.
Say- 17?
Maybe younger.
When they called people like me “angsty”
or “quirky.”
But I could still smile.
That kind of dry smile, that pulled my lips tight.
Now, at 60, I have wrinkles from that.
Wrinkles which feel like scars.
I have gray hair, that I still play with anxiously.
I go to my favorite cafe.
I order a coffee to go- same as always.
I’m going to the book club, I say.
But really, I’m seeing that new therapist.
As my old one retired…
She’s a pro, they say.
But still it bugs me…
That she’s younger than me.
Summer love, starts slowly. But as the summer nights last longer, so do the
feelings of love resonate in the air for young lovers. This is exactly where our
story begins. It all started near the end of August. I had just found out my family
was on our way, to packing up in a race to move to Toronto Ontario in just about
seven days. I had no idea, how much my life in Everett would have changed my
life forever.
There was this boy, of course there always is a boy. In highschool he seemed to
be the quiet type. You know the mysterious ones, that you look at in the corner of
your eye and tease. He barely exchanged glances back, and when he did I would
always flash a mischievious smile. Oh the glory days, when you get all dizzy from
the sensation of "crushes". I have never been able to clearly tell someone, when
I feel something for them, and this was definetly a case. We did as most people
do these days. We exchanged msn's and spoke nightly for hours. In the secret
quiet of the night, I finally got to know him. He was kind, and sweet, the type of
guy I never thought I would fall for. It just seemed right, if you know what I mean. I
always went for the angsty, bad boy basically the hottie in the leather jackets
leaning over their trans- ams. So what was so special about James. He was this
diamond in the rough. At first glance, almost dull. But as you looked closer, the
most brilliant color. He could make me laugh, he had one of the highest
intellects of anyone I had ever known, and the most captivating eyes. I remeber
looking in them, and feeling as if the dark brown pools could suck me in and
keep me there forever.
Our relationship to start, was that of a slow one. He went with walks with me,
humourously walking on the other side of the path from me. I remeber always
thinking, " When is this kid going to smarten up, and hold my hand." But everyone
has those sort of stories when they are young. From there on out every second of
the day, I could I would be spending the day with him. He was the one release
from the pressures of the hustle and the panic inside of my home. My parents
indecision to pick up our lives and move was to say the least exhuasting. I grew
nauseated as every day past, because what I knew what was to come was for
the worst.
Form:
I saw a flower standing in a ray of weeds,
Beautiful, from afar, it seemed.
I stepped closer, heart filled with greed,
For I wanted that growing seed.
I tried picking it up, thorns poking my thin skin,
It pricked me, it hurt me, yet I still wanted to hold it,
Because it's beauty pulled me in.
I saw a girl, standing in a crowded room,
Her eyes gleamed, beautiful, she seemed.
I stepped closer, heart filled with love,
Yet my mind wanted me to go above.
And now I realise, I am that flower,
And she is the person holding it,
I hurt her, through my words, through my actions,
Yet she still holds me close.
But to her, the beauty of the flower is beyond compare,
Even if the flower can't see the same reflection anywhere,
It blooms, it gives light,
But inside, the flower isn't alright.
I’m honestly done with this horrible, angsty doubt inside
I slept in for too long that I’m sick of having it with myself, simply hiding
I’m genuinely gone glistening like the sun that has surely died
I crept in my bed silently…I failed you greatly and my hope is subsiding
Give mercy a chance
To heal you from your triggering trance
Give mercy a chance
I take you on a life’s wondrous dance
Give mercy a chance
To give you merriment from on high happily
Give mercy a chance
To live inside you to make you bloom bravely
Give mercy a chance
Give mercy a chance
Give mercy a chance…
To heal your broken soul
To make you so beautiful
To steal away the pain, to shove it down the drain
To break away the bewilderment from your brain
Just have mercy…on my heart
I’m arrogantly wrecked me up and worn me out like a strong punching bag
I am down and under in the waters of wistfulness and I am close to dying
I’m robustly trying to listen to your reason behind getting stomped on like a rag
I am drowning in crooked lullabies and I am in need of the rope of hope, crying
Give mercy a chance
To heal you from your triggering trance
Give mercy a chance
I take you on a life’s wondrous dance
Give mercy a chance
To give you merriment from on high happily
Give mercy a chance
To live inside you to make you bloom bravely
Give mercy a chance
Give mercy a chance
Give mercy a chance…
To heal your broken soul
To make you so beautiful
To steal away the pain, to shove it down the drain
To break away the bewilderment from your brain
Just have mercy…on my soul
Give me a reason
To believe in your fickle ways
Give me a season
To blossom in these gray days
Give mercy a try
And, soon, you’ll fly
Now, I’m bound in this ribcage of envious rage
Somehow, I’m found — chainless in pride and happiness in stride
Triggering circumstances on this life’s page
Face the music within…I don’t want to hide what’s really inside
Especially when you’re not by my side
Crucified in loneliness
While you live in loveliness
Give mercy a try, cold-hearted love of mine
There, you’ll find that my wings are made of divine shine
Just have mercy on all of me…
And my mind of misery…
That’s the kind I can’t stand
I wish you’d understand…
Finally got around to
writing on paper
Actually writing—
seems like forever
My pen flies,
runs away with my chicken scratch
much like a chicken
running away with its head cut off
Better write this…
feeling’s bearing down on me—
just niggling
Ever felt that way?
Like there are 999 fire ants
biting you
They crawl…bite…
just everywhere
and you wish
that you can just die
You wait for that
final fatal bite
--but it never comes
simply because it
needs that 1000th ant
It’s the magic ant
with the final deadly bite
So you are tortured
forever
You keep scratching,
itching, hurting
Never really knowing
where to scratch since
the itch is everywhere
and nowhere at all
Pretty frustrating
and so I just sigh.
Fire ants biting my heart.
*** Wrote this one because of the Ants in my towel plus I was feel angsty O_o
Gosh, that was crazzzzyy! Good thing I felt some of those ants biting me
on my shoulders and arm--then I stared at my towel and aaack,
it made my skin crawl--yeeek!!
Haha had to take a shower again-- *shudder* just thinking about it--
so nope, not for any contest ;)
I love you so much, that
you can only disgust me now
All your flaws and red flags spark
crimson, like a seductive rose.
Gross and yet longing for your
body to seek for every blemish there
To point, prod and pinch deeper
with a gentle lover’s touch.
I loathe the time spent together
but weep miseries when we part
Knowing months will pass till I see you
with silence over missed calls, ringing.
Your humour is tedious and dry
yet, I feign chuckles at your puns
Seeing your eyes beam up with
joy thinking that I’m such a cool guy.
Not a Nice Guy- don't get me twisted
I just want you to feel seen, my dear
With my blank stare thinking of other women
whilst watching your plush lips, yearning.
Yielding. Every time my
heart beats with bitter ennui
A steady rhythm of no change
for I am mute to my one desire.
But I don't want to waste your time
cause my mouth stammers the words
“You down to smash?” I am, but I don't
want to be just that, but I need that.
Primal attraction, two dogs in heat
all fours, no rest, animalistic love
Fueled by desire, unbridled
unbound, and all uncaring.
I ache for the pillow talks of
irony and wit, our final peace.
I caress your damp hair singing
lullabies of our youth, till dawn.
I beg of you to crack my skull open
and watch me bleed out all these
Emotions I struggle to voice- freedom
the release beyond any ******.
I'm sorry that you have to deal with this
but I chose you, so it's your fault too
You entertained me for so long,
I never fathomed hurting you.
But I can, and I might… I probably will.
That's why my blood’s still running
I can't blame you for my feelings for you
I wish you didn't stay and watch me bleed.
Grief manifested into rejuvenating relief...
Even though we shake vigorously like a spring leaf..
Just don’t grieve anymore and doubt less
We will be successful personally more or less
And evil endeavors won’t break us now
Jealousness is in the heart of heartless disheartenment
Gravity-bound by silent wars somehow
Anxiousness doesn’t cure the thoughts of angsty sentiment
Grief manifested into relief and restore radiance in store once more...once more...
We dance and sway to the beautiful music of our heart
We swim peaceably above and below the seashore - what are you waiting for?
We are not full of mere resentment from the start
Joyous, fervent desires will surely lead the way
Distress and bitter weeping will vanish away and harm us no more, darling
We were lost and found by gladness everyday
Express your expansion of excellent empathy instead of sitting here, mourning
Save yourself from pangs of nostalgic negativity by discarding it with positivity to the extreme
Overwhelmed with jealousy of other people’s successes and progress, but I’m on God’s terrific team
Break the icy silence by being engulfed in flames of certainty and serenity’s trace
Hesitation and frustration overcome us once more and I want to heal it with vast grace
Callous corruption makes us crazed and disoriented
Sound wisdom allows us to be appraised and encouraged
Still drenched in silence by the grief-stricken hopelessness
Will You see us through our apprehension and helplessness?
Goodness and integrity will enlighten us once again
Resonating zealousness will be in the minds of thousands of knowledgeable individuals and their unattainable souls
Airborne in satisfaction’s realm, unlike a million men
Anxiousness doesn’t cure the thoughts of angsty sentiment, but manifests into unprepared, scared fools
Grief manifested into relief...
Even though it might seem brief...
Grieve no more and please regret less
We will be making so much progress
