Painful Distortions

welcome myself
Self created madness
The reality of my life
Stuck on repeat
Challenges of a twisted mind
Overthinking the chaos surrounding me
How do I resolve the problem
So I can feel better day after day
Driven by loud shame
Living in guilt mixed beliefs
Stuck repeatedly
This challenging seat
Increasing mind begging
Please help me
Disturbed anger
Narcissistic self doubt
Furious rage
Unbalanced brain
Masked feelings
With a untrusting face
Gazing into my soul
Eyes wide open
Yearning the grave
Drowning in an ocean
With out absorbing my life
Reliving these days
Self defeat
Using self will
Resistance of God
Reaching out & turning away
My mind is made up
My bed is made
Unstable thoughts
Disconnected
Faith lost at sea
My will not of God
Existing only for me
Endlessly filled selfishly
Welcome to my shame
God help me

Through Life's Clenched Jaw

Through life’s clenched jaw, I'm in awe of my accomplishments. The pain in my life has started to fade as I open the blinds and pull back the shades. I've been reaching into my core, allowing my heart to pour out onto each page. Soaring through my thoughts, I watch my depression rot and wither. Looking back at my past gives me shivers; I was once homeless, covered in grit and grime. Sweat dripped down my face as I felt so out of place in reality, watching my life seep away like quicksand. Life didn’t deal me the best hand. Coming from a broken home, substance abuse was all I knew. This was my pattern for years until I was ready to shift gears. In a hopeless state of mind, I cried out for help, not knowing how to cope with the feelings that festered inside me. Narcotics Anonymous became my guide— a guiding light to break these chains within my heart and soul. Drug addiction won't continue to take its toll. I was lost to a society that no longer saw me as a person but as a transient on the street, hooked on drugs and unsure where I would sleep. The person I used to be is gone. I was able to right my wrongs and forgive those who caused me harm—not for them, but for myself, so I could move on. Move on from this torment that held me hostage—hostage to my disease between my ears. It was time to stop living in fear. The ways I coped for ten years left me in a chokehold I couldn't break alone, but with my loved ones by my side, I realized this was a road I didn't have to walk alone. I’ve grown from the broken, neglected little girl inside me—sewn back my broken pieces. If you're fighting something deep inside, don't give up hope, and let your pain be your guide. I hope you cry every tear without fear of judgment because you're introducing yourself to healing when you allow yourself to start feeling. I was once told it’s a sign of weakness to be vulnerable. But they were wrong, so I'll keep singing this song. The song of my pain, my sorrow, hoping to give someone else hope to live till tomorrow. I refuse to be labeled as an addict or a lost cause. The jaws of this world haven't swallowed me whole yet. The fire is burning in my soul, and with the help of others, my heart is whole.

This Hollowed Life

It's like your world is ending
Everything comes crashing down
Can't catch your breath
Down, down, down you drown

Waking in the morning
To another dreaded day
Going through the hustle
Just to keep the pain at bay

Escaping is what you want
You numb yourself just to survive
Hating the world when you're sober
Hate yourself for getting high

Oh yeah-This hollowed life of lies

Going through the rituals
Crushing up your dreams
Drawing back within yourself
That icy devil makes you scream

The storm rages deep inside
Harboring all your guilt and shame
Fighting a losing battle
You think it's too late to change

You hate the world when you're sober
Hate yourself for getting high
Numbing as a way of living
Living your hollowed life of lies

Then one day you see
Someone who used to use
They were happy
No longer broken and confused

They tell you of a man
Who washed away their sins
They had found peace
Oh yeah- found peace within Him

You were tired of the hatred
You were tired of getting high
You were tired of living
Living your hollowed life of lies

You asked for forgiveness
You were hungry for more
You wanted what they had
They had opened the door

Now you're walking free
Free from the shame and guilt
With Jesus in your heart
You had been rebuilt

No more hating the world
No longer getting high
You laid your pain at His feet
You escaped that hollowed life of lies

A Solution To Addictions Equation

All you need is the will. Where there is a will, there is always a way.
But, my polluted mind couldn't see the path to success ahead.
No map exists to sobriety, or a magical compass to recovery

The lifestyle I once lived, so empty and desolate.
Only able to completely rely on my own self.
For recovery, you need people. And, people are willing to help.

I surrounded myself with all of the acronyms.
AA, NA, MIA. I felt lost in the madness.
A peer in recovery helped me find a start; a Detox program.
These words so unsettling to any real drug addict.
But, this time I was done. Beyond done, Completely over it.

Their medications allowed me to surpass that three day barrier.
A mark of achievement I had so many other times missed.
By day seven, I started to feel slightly more normal.
A pre-dope normal, one that existed before the drugs took over.
But, then I opened my eyes and I saw the doors.
I knew exactly where those doors led to...
They led to the street. They led right back to the needle.

So I just stayed, and moved right into their inpatient program.
A place I swore wholeheartedly I would never go.
The twenty-eight days can be summed up in one word: Reassuring.
Each day I grew more confident, and began to feel reassured.
Just when I came to an acceptance that recovery was truly possible.
Once again, I stood weary at those same two doors.

I decided to speak out. It came from a place of fear and despair.
I was directed into a new form of safe haven.
IOP, with an emphasis on the "intensive."
For four hours a day, for four days a week, I worked at recovery.
Each day building upon my new foundation of inner strength.

When, and only when, I felt completely ready.
I left IOP, and again I immersed myself in those acronyms.
I also found a healthy replacement for my abundant time.
The gym became my therapy, relieving me both body and mind.
Working out was my new "high." Only this time it was healthy.

Through the entirety of this life changing experience.
I learned many new things about life, about myself.
Proving that where there's a will, there is definitely a way.
It took first reaching rock bottom, and the absolute lowest of lows.
to learn first hand, that you can't reach the top, without first being at the bottom.

The Devil and I - Part iii

I replied to the beast, “ We are done!”

No longer will I be captive to your powder
of numb thought and emotion.
No longer will I need to have a special
cup, cotton, and spoon next to those
dirty syringes hidden in the vestment.
I will no longer be waking up sick,
scrunching in fits of pain and agony.
I refuse to be pale and thin anymore from lack
of sustenance. "O, Devil! I'm kicking you to the curb."

Today is the day that I am starting a new story.
I am turning my back on you, Morning Star!
With swift pride, I stomp you back to your unholy
glory where your pleasure is no longer my pain.
Don't think I am sorry as I am awakened from
misery. It is time now to find direction otherwise.
Today, O Devil, I take back reign of this
chaotic life mess I have created!
Today I will be strong, as you have tormented me
so long. No longer shall I be off track for today,
I am taking my life back!

Bursting free from these chains;
I am on the way to conquering the flames!

Premium Member High Powered Woman

She needs that drink to start the day
When the children play
To get away
Meetings, lunch, that damn report
The never-ending stress
A drink to rest
She makes love like the dead
Her mind ahead
Major decisions, racing instead
A drink to unwind
To go to bed
Tomorrow a drink to get ahead
Engagements, talks, drinks to go
The high-powered girl has hit the low
Make up getting thicker now
Drink the crutch
Husband having an affair
It’s all too much
Drinks to get up
Starts to fall
Crashing down against the wall
Pulls herself up
In a daze
Looks in the mirror
In a haze
Sees a face
A slight trace
Pitiful tragic being
For the first time seeing
The ghost finally screaming
She stands up
The words would set her free
I am an alcoholic

A Life Crashing Over Hatred Or Love A-L-C-O-H-O-L

A Life Crashing Over Hatred Or Love (A.L.C.O.H.O.L)

A mind that is broken, full of dreams that are dashed,
You can’t break a heart that’s already been smashed.
So exhausted and my bodies aching,
Can’t stop drinking this poisonous medication.
Hating who I am more and more each day,
Wish I could go back and do things a different way.
And as the smoke from the ashtray dances for me,
The demon inside romances me.
Leave your mind behind and have another drink,
This is your life, who cares what they think.
My thoughts get darker, and my heart gets colder,
Because I only listen to the devil on my shoulder.
Should I give up or put up a fight,
Would anyone care if I died tonight.
Looking in the mirror, pain is in my eyes,
The reflection isn’t me but a man that I despise.

The dark thoughts and feelings are no longer,
I’m not better yet but everyday I’m stronger.
Mainly good days, the occasional black cloud,
People really care about me; I’ll make them proud.
My mind is focussed, determined and clear,
I’m making up for lost time, every second of every year.
Eyes blurred by drink but now I can see again,
My friends and family have the real me again.
I love who I am now, I do want to live,
I do give a now; I’ve got so much to give.
We can’t change the past, but we can make a new start,
Piece by piece I’ve fixed my once broken heart.
It’s a shame it took being so close to death,
But I’ll live my life happy with every last breath.
The dark days are over, from addiction I’m free,
I can always be happy, just by being me.

Broken Halos

Heard a song of broken halos,
folded wings that used to fly.
Wondered why I go where I go.
Yeah, broken halos as miles went by.

Angels used to come and teach me,
 now they’ve gone another way.
Don’t blame them, I told them they should
 find another soul to save.

Stared at the darkness and let my mind go,
it took me places I used to shine.
The song kept playing – broken halos.
Yeah, broken halos and this one’s mine.

Don’t go looking for the reasons.
 Don’t go asking Jesus why.
Some folded wings don’t have a reason.
Somehow, they lose the will to fly.

I’ve seen my share of broken halos,
tried to mend some. I’ve tried to give.
I never thought someday I’d join them.
I guess it happens in the lives we live.

I drove in silence for long time,
thought of the angels in the grand sublime.
 Wondered if they’d ever fallen…
Broken halos that used to shine.
Yeah, broken halos and this one’s mine.
