Upon yon banks where heather waves so fair,
In Scotland's heart, a gem beyond compare,
Loch Lomond lies, embraced by hills and glen,
A sonnet's tale, where verses oft begin.
Beneath the sky, with hues of Highland blue,
Ben Lomond stands, a guardian true,
Its rugged peak, in morning's rosy light,
A Highland symphony, a breathtaking sight.
Thy waters mirror tales of ancient lore,
In every ripple, echoes gone before,
Bonnie boats, with sails unfurling wide,
Glide 'neath the thistle's nod, with Highland pride.
As twilight falls, and stars begin to gleam,
Loch Lomond dreams its own enchanting theme,
A piper's mournful tune upon the breeze,
Weaves through the glen, beneath the ancient trees.
Oh, bracken shores, where history is spun,
Of battles fought and victories hard-won,
In verse, this sonnet finds its way,
To Loch Lomond, where Highland spirits play.

I long to traipse across lavender heathered hills
and look across the North Sea as a winter wind chills.
Again, to dwell in a cottage, nestled in a green glen
or traverse Scotland's burns, I yearn. Do ya ken?
Years ago I sat upon Loch Lomond's misty banks
and to the beautiful Highlands I offered my thanks
for rugged terrain, lowlands and plains, and Aberdeen.
Haunting bagpipe songs, leaves me feeling serene.
My heart longs to wander free as I stand and listen
to gulls over the Hebrides while Atlantic waters glisten.
There's a stirring deep within my heart and my soul
to wear my clan's plaid and upon Ayr Beach to stroll.

Are these words true?
what do they really mean?
many shops portray them
are people so very green?
So many are taken in
believing their every word
but it's not always so
when you're hearts stirred
The cheap price is appealing
a bargain we always like
but when the competitions tough
just tell them to get on your bike
It's all economics out for quick buck
to draw us all in just two for one
but that's where we all keep falling down
can't say no when we should just run!
(When visiting Loch Lomond shores shop mall recently, saw the display 'final clearance' made me think of its effect on people. )

O're the rock strewn shores of Loch Lomond, upon the glaciered northern rock,
A lonely, barren, desolate stand, refuge to ancient Gaelic stock.
In this land o're grown with heath, tween' a realm named Rannoch Liath,
On a misty, dreary cairn,
There lived a lassie near the peaks, whose life of toil was one forlorn.
Sheltered in her little cabin warm, protected from the highland storm -
Just a lowly peasant serf -
Whose kin was of this barren earth.
A lovely lass, her hair of gold, imprisoned in a life on hold - she could not run,
Nor could she hide;
Her life of drudgery she would abide.
Yet, hoping to abscond this highland moor, and this desolate, barren scape,
Pleading for an opportunity, a sanction to escape.
Villagers said, they saw her go that bitter night - carrying a lantern with her,
ascending to the heights.
They said they didn't stop her, they thought she went for wood;
no one ever saw her, vanishing that night.

Loch Lomond
From the shore,
big ripples excite me
and I wonder each time, is this it?
I stand quite alone, my eyes scanning the water,
and I ignore silly comments from passers by;
Today, I feel sure I will spot it!
The Loch Ness Monster in…
Loch Lomond.*
* a friend once told me she hoped to see the Loch Ness Monster at Loch Lomond, LOL
- maybe that’s why no one has ever found Nessie!!
