Remember America’s humanitarian aid
to Germany’s Nazis
and Japan’s Kamikazes
during daring WW2 raids
Funny, I don’t remember it either…
But I know the reason
giving aid and comfort to a terrorist enemy
is properly classified as treason

I wanted it to be an egret.
It most probably was not an egret,
but the word and the bird
seemed one and the same
as I stood alone by the willow
and watched it do a 200 foot kamikaze dive
into the water and disappear.
Suicide always baffled and eluded me.
We’re all kamikazes.
In our finite time we rush headlong into life
until we crash and burn. Then a whisper in my ear,
“not with a bang, but a whimper.”
Egret sounds so much like regret.
Was this the feeling
that was coursing through me now?
I stared blankly at the water, feeling hollow.
The bird surfaced and flew away with a fish.
He had merely been dining out.
He was another beautiful predator.
An oxymoron like us all.
I left my thoughts of suicide
and returned to acting naturally.

The USS Ticonderoga
In January of ’45
Was engaged off of Formosa
When the kamikazes darkened the skies.
Hit on the flight deck and the island,
One hundred forty four died.
An inferno that day and that hour,
Yet the Ticonderoga survived.
The sixth of the Essex-class carriers,
Launched just the year before,
She and her crew served nobly
Til the end of that long bloody war.
Years later I sailed on the Tico;
Together we sailed on the sea.
We journeyed throughout the Pacific
Til she was decomm’ed in ’73.
Most of her sisters are gone now;
They live on in just memories
Where they continue to sail on,
Sailing on far distant seas.

Americans are proud people
bringing peace to every steeple
causing wars they will not do
destroying enemies for their due
eating fast foods they will
forgetting all the thrill
God’s a tricky subject for some
having faith but no one will come
Indians have lost their lands
jackpot slots replace their sands
Kamikazes hit us hard
no one held a winning card
military keeps us safe
nuclear threat is unsafe
open arms policy long gone
Policing neighbors? Should be done
quit pollution always a goal
recovery is in my skull
science against religion
we’re better than a pigeon
understanding is the key
I hope we’ll always be free
war should never be the answer
with many falling to Cancer
youngsters keep growing up quickly
with parents becoming sickly
hold on to that American pride
we’ll take on challenges with stride

Bloods, Crips, Kings
Brothers by oppression
yet the sight of colors
can bring on war
While blasting angry
voices through stereos
KILL
KILL
KILL
Beautiful women
Innocent children
lose Father, Sons, Brothers
Future teachers and coaches
of our community under
mind control
These young kamikazes
used to be power rangers
lovers
Now they hold techs
without fear
Batman was their hero
Now the almighty dolla
has them blind
Bloods, Crips, Kings
Brothers by oppression
