Humbert Poems | Examples

A Readjustment Challenge

Simply switching to a new phase,
Humbert finds himself in a new maze,
His face a great mask of blank gaze,
To all the asked questions Quick Nays.

Humbert tries The New Untried Ways
And it is a champ’s blows that daze,
Humbert badly turning sideways
Like the punch-drunk listless for days.

Big dreams to again the trail blaze,
For seen Humbert had better days;
Still the dithering mind - he strays
While Pure Standards he hopes to raise…

Of the things we should their range know
Is readjustment’s – then, we go!

Ink

Whirl me around in this time, this space
And promise me we’ll never leave this place.

Bonnie, it is true
I came for you
When the mania took me by surprise.
Fountain pen will write these words as my energy does rise.

Drum, drum of my heartbeat,
I can’t sit still upon this seat.
The poem’s jumbled, vision blurred.
I’d revise it if I could make out a word.

I want to drive with Humbert in a beaten up car
And go to places strange and far.
I’d let him do just as he pleased
But I don’t think his type is me.

I am cancer, I am death
Breathing in these hurried breaths
While I write hate notes and call it journaling
Because Bonnie’s really just a thing;
An object that I can put my pen to
And someday later bid adieu.

Stand near, save me, Bonnie, do
Because everyday I write in you.
But you’re so silent, what is this ink that’s spilled?
I’ll tear you up and have you killed!

Rhymed Review On Lolita By Vladimir Nabokov

In truth Clare Quilty
Was clearly guilty,
While humble Humbert Humbert
Was fervently pervert.
The issue to talk of
What told us Nabokov ?

Choose Life

Call me ignorant
but just let the light shimmer above my head,
let those whispers softly dance in my ears
and leave me alone
because I don’t care !
Because I know
how ended those who gave a damn !

Names, you say ?
You want some names ?
Alright then, suit yourself.

Heathcliff, died.
Even twice I might say.
Billy, stuck in the air,
but never managed to fly away.
Roxana, fed karma with her own breast.
Humbert, lost his heart, his mind and the light of his life.

You may ask my friend
how do I know all of this.
Then I’ll reply:
I read my dear, I read.

Since only through books
you can taste the true craziness.
And trust me,
only crazy people are worth something these days.
Sanity is a disease.

You don’t believe me ?
Then ask Alice,
hold her hand
and chase the white rabbit when there’s still time.

Otherwise reality will smash you
and no one will notice.
No one but the boy without the turtleneck,
who will murmur sadly and very slow:
“And your soul from out that shadow
that lies floating on the floor
shall be lifted,
nevermore.”

My little darlings you must beware
Of predators like Humbert Humbert
Picking roses before they bloom
Willing to experiment many years too soon

Hold on to your innocence my dear young child
There will be plenty of time to sow oats wild
Grown men who desire twelve year old Lolitas
Will rot in hell with sexual offense repeaters
