I know a place where words are bent
Their meaning will never be still
When you arrive and your time is all spent
You will have arrived at Dorchville
With Dorchville flandered the dumpkin kingfisher
In rocoroyal the flashblue fluger
Wasted the ibeniss of landers and hoofers
Ignored the stainbreath and dagcallers whimper
So willness of beurse the tamey from comey
And rolo ignorest may beechoff that vercove
The rosets draw sprigly from diurts so nosplay
And landers and hoofers now quacker and strutter

March field
snow patched scars
deer forage
green stubble flirting
the ground parsimonious
its fast food scarcity
Deer raise their heads
regard my presence, murky
Their eyes clear, deep, almond round
shaking something in me
solemnizing freedom
Nature's rated stature
flecked streamlined beauty
compact torsos
triggered taunt launching
A thought that trophy room plundering
could cut nimble hoofers
complicated narrative
the jagged edge of hunting
Deer holding my fixed attention
that slips from boxed corners
making space for reconsidering
to forego what's crushing
a blend to nomadic tramping
competing urges
Rippled cues of wishing
to know life in rhythmic movement
to singe bits of living
blurred escape
like deer in hurdle leaps
to flee,
light flickering vanity
that craves invisible spaces

And so it begins...
A dazzling display of showmanship
A very stiff dance competition
Observed by a live audience
By four judges sitting in the front row
Meticulous; they don't miss a thing
The dancing prowess of every performer
The twirls, the shuffles, the oohs and aahs
The missteps, the works
Hoofers take to the dance floor
One after the other in pursuit of glory
Each one aiming to please
To steal the show, to come out on top
All dance routines ending
In thunderous applause
They all make it hard for the judges
To pick a sole winner
It's a mesmerizing experience...
And So It Begins Poetry Contest
