what is that? I asked, fascinated.
It looks like a moth with a skull painted on it.
I thought she had painted it.
As it flew off I saw othrer moths
They all had skulls.
I was fascinated.
If you want to see one look up

I love you Broad-boarded Bee-Moth
I’m delighted by your transparent wings,
‘diaphanous’ some say.
I love your jerky jiggly flight by day
as you flitter from leaf to leaf.
Some say you flutter, but I think not so much.
You fly through riverside woods
and sometimes hover over mountain slopes,
depending on your mood, and let’s face it
you’re certainly a little moody.
You could not follow me to America,
I recall that sad rainy day when we parted,
tears ran down my ears as I waved goodbye.
You flit lonely now through a faraway sky.
Do you miss me,
my dear Broad-bordered Bee-Moth?
Do you forgive me for that brief affair
I had with that Humming-bird Hawk Moth?
She meant nothing to me.
It has always been you my dinky-winged darling,
only you.

[This is based on a true story from some years ago…
Some elaboration involved… oh… and nothing got
Splatted.]
*
I sat there busy typing, some poetry and that
And suddenly I’m dive bombed by a massive hairy bat
If it wasn’t flying round I’d swear it was a rat
But maybe I exaggerate… not quite as big as that
My hair was blowing in the breeze that blasted from each wing
I prayed it wouldn’t bite my neck, I hoped it wouldn’t sting
I’m ducking and I’m flinching as the thing attacked my face
I wondered if this was the end of the human race
But then I got some gumption and I knew what I must do
I coshed it with a newspaper and whacked it with a shoe
I had a beer to celebrate, ‘Take that,’ I had to mutter
Some went down the wrong way and it made me cough and splutter
My wife brought in some linctus, one for cold and one for cough
And then she asked me if I’d seen that HUMUNGOUS Hawk Moth

Hey,Miss cute little jumping spider;
you are a skilled under leaf hider.
Wow!The crown like eight tiny eyes!
or you the princess in disguise?
Hello, Mr. Handsome Hawk moth caterpillar;
the color spots on your body glitter.
Aww, you look like a snake, with big pseudo eyes,
Tell me, when are you gonna fly?
Oh, the shiny cyanide millipede,
How do you manage to walk,
with these many golden legs?
Why are you so shy, now don't get coiled.
Hey,the smiling soft snail;
Why do you look so pale?
Can't bare your mobile home?
Come take rest, don't roam
I still wonder,
Why do they hate you? It's not fair
It's their blunder
You just don't care.
