In Flannery I read
a world I seldom saw
knew was always there
just beyond the rise
of every hill
on the other side
of every wall
I knew it was there
could smell heard tell
of it – but more
it was deep inside of me
and when words of it
would rise and well
they fell back into
a place kept for words
too hard to tell

He had missed his boy it now being over two years
In knowing so much joy you must also know the tears
With each week that would pass and each day that went by
There sat a little tear of glass in the tiny corner of his eye
Many couldn't really even see it unless you looked really good
And so rarely would he ever admit for strength was understood
But in the times when he was alone and would think of the past
That little glass tear had grown as a new layer had been cast
But in looking in the mirror and seeing that growing glass ball
All the reasons became clearer of all the others who answered the call
Wiping the tear from his eye once again getting hold of his emotion
But these feelings certainly don't lie oh how I miss you my Son
So the next time you may notice just such a little glass tear
The etched name of who we miss will now be seen so clear
You needn't make a big deal or even go out of you way
For only the Spirit can heal so I only ask that you pray

She was a tough old lady with a permanently etched scow
Yep, with old misses Sadie you did not want to run a foul
Sitting out in her chair watching everyone who went by
Just the way she would stare with that one crooked eye
She never seemed to smile or even say a word
And lived next door for a while from what I have heard
There she was nearly every day watching every move we made
The one thing that I would say is that she made me very afraid
In playing with my ball it went bouncing over her fence
Banging against her wall my fear suddenly became immense
She stood up quickly in looking down right at my ball
Then she looked at me and I was only three feet tall
Then she gestured my way saying here it is right over here
She said it's okay you can come and get your ball my dear
So I opened up the gate as she pointed where it went
I never forget that date and what "I'm sorry" had meant
For in each day after she would always say hi
Even sharing some laughter or at least I would try
But had I known or even had a little clue
To what one is prone you should try something new
