Premium Member'STEM' means Stagnation

     The most popular educational trend
        Courses labeled as ‘STEM’
     Science, Technology, Engineering, Math
Offerings that lead to destruction and wrath

Nuclear fusion and fission they aid and abet
Not to mention ‘AI,’ which’ll destroy us all yet
The more ‘modern conveniences’ we have, the more harried we are
Ask folks who bicycle, glad they ditched cars

Perhaps we can teach the next generation
how best to avoid war through negotiation
Failing that, mankind seems doomed to stagnation

Premium MemberPresent Day Potential Education

Anyone with a connection to the internet has the ability,
to self educate themselves greater than at any prestigious university,
especially if you're one who seeks self education seriously and passionately.
All one needs to do is to type in the subject you desire to self educate,
and you'll be provided with many avenues to passionately study and investigate,
and then whenever you feel you need a self educating break,
your connection will bring whatever you find relaxing or entertaining to date.
Sadly most use this technology for entertainment and profit purposes only.
If only all could recognize our present self educating opportunity,
this world would be a far better place, I truly believe.
Far better than most people today could ever possibly conceive.

Premium MemberEducated For a World Gone By

Educated for a world gone by
What can Plato teach me about AI

So too, Galileo's telescope's in trouble
    James R. Webb's far surpasses even Hubble's

It's nice that I read Latin and Greek, I suppose
But if I'd a known, it's Chinese and Urdu I'd have chose

A monster Sperry-Univac did the job back in the day
But a tiny device runs rings around it today

All those long, romantic letters I'd write
Today whipped out in 30 characters of delight

Yes, I was educated for a world gone by
Yet one question hasn't changed ~ Why?!

I think about technology..
How advanced it's become.
Has it made us any smarter?
Or has it really made us dumb?

We hold in our hands..
A small mobile device.
It's become our daily lifeline..
But think about the price..?

We've paid with our intellect..
No longer having to think.
We ask Siri and ask Google..
In time our brain will shrink.

We no longer have recall..
Or make decisions alone.
Constantly looking at that screen..
Being controlled by a mobile phone.

Premium MemberCreativity

The mind is a quagmire of weeds:
a crowd of what we think we know
leaving little room left for new crops
of creativity....

How far out did Einstein go?
At first thought speculative nonsense
his time altering relativity....

Fists are for fighting
     Teeth, for biting
Raised on VG's and TV ~
     Tongues, for inciting

802.11 I got it from,
the electro magnetic spectrum.

We can hash it all out and add speed & security,
AES, 3G, 4G, LTE.

Whatever smartphone is modular and popular,
wireless networks, triangulated towers.

It's known to drain your power so you're charging, surfing,
try to find the combination to keep it working.

So we can watch twerking videos, and get spammed,
#twitter, facebook, pinterest, instagram.

TCP/IP and Multi-layered protocols,
7 is the magic number to understand it all.

Physical, datalink, network, transport, session, presentation, application layer,
The seven-layer OSI (Open Systems Interconnect) is the standard integrator.

Premium MemberA Bit of Fatherly Pride

If in a bit of fatherly pride I may indulge here
My 22-year-old son's brought my old age new cheer

Today he just accepted his first full-time position
Which my wife and I wish him much success in

By the way, our son -- you should know -- is super brainy
As shown by his job title, M.I.T. (!) ~ Mgr. in Training

M.I.T. also stands for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology,
which has long been considered the top college in America

Premium MemberThe Forgotten

Our lives are consumed
With vice and pleasure
Self-absorbed with blinders
And avarice for treasure
The majority indifferent
To the plight of our parents
Or the generation before them
With their disciplined adherence
As medical technology
Prolongs our existence
A materialistic generation
Promotes political resistance
The diseases and conditions
Previously unnamed
Now have an aging
population restrained
Disadvantaged and exploited
They simply try to survive
While the rest of us carelessly
Go on with our lives
No opportunities to acquire
The means to sustain
Plus devaluation of the dollar
Leave them hungry and lame
They face the future like the past
Proud and undaunted
Their only dream left
Is to feel needed and wanted
