Doxie Poems

CANINE KING
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He was a dachshund extraordinaire,
     a canine king with a luxurious coat most fair.
He ruled our neighborhood with nary a care,
     his tail wagging wildly, his ears flapping in the air.
His little legs moved swiftly,
     patrolling the streets quite deftly.
He sniffed and snuffled with a curious mind,
     chasing the squirrels with harmless malign.
He barked at strangers with a fearless din,
     growling and showing his teeth like a sharp mandolin.
He ruled the streets with an iron paw,
     protecting and serving with his loving, doxie law.
He licked the faces of those he knew,
     reigning gently while enjoying his doggie chews.
He was a master of mischief with his charming ways,
     nudging with his nose, his way of begging you to stay.
His barks were music to my ears, his wags a delight,
     dancing and prancing with a carefree spirit, light.
He was a dachshund extraordinaire,
     a neighborhood hero and loving arbiter.
             TENDER IS THE NOW
When your dishes are done, and tummies
are full.
You can put yout feet up, relax and truly
have family fun.
Your son,who just became a teen, plays
classical music just for you.
The cute Doxie dog, jumps on your lap
and wants to snuggle with you.
The aroma of chocolate chip cookies now
baking in the oven.
Your thoughtful husband brings warm
cocoa for you.
How very blessed you all are!
With the fireplace glowing and close,
unique family love growing.
Green
The judge is snoring for victory of my conviction
Every night, I merry in comfort of his spouse
My skin has become a palimpsest of fleeting sensation
And each layer bore the imprint of my Doxie
Instead of a red carpet,  to flaunt my asset
I walk on a green mile, toward an electric chair
With fans on the other edge, cheering my conquest
I am the champion of the west wing with horsehair
Dawn is here and I must face the light
In a roll of two, I lead
To cast my secrets in light without weight
I always lead, whether it's death or food
Without doubt,  I am the best on earth
I have fans cheering me at death
Return of the Heron
I watched as she dropped down
 that full six-foot wingspan graced the air around
that slipped in quiet, somehow silenced in the cold gray steel
 and suddenly again, she was here, looking for another meal.
The great blue neck stretched up while below her leggy feet
 slowly stepped as she walked toward the pond indiscrete.
Her visit came too often
 and my heart could no longer be softened
for her hunger and her need
 had well depleted most of my fish and their seed.
Still, she stepped methodic around the edge
 eyeing close the waters for some movement along the ledge
slowly I rose as she stepped closer in to look some more
 but with caution, she scanned my figure in the door.
Reluctant and defiant she stood  beneath the net
 as I yelled admonishment at her brazen gaze met
she was defiant and stood her ground
 until thru the door raced my little doxie hound.
Then with an elongated step, she flew away
 leave it to my dog to save the day.
A Doxie Wait
He lays on the very edge
 of the cushion  on the couch.
Tail and back leg hanging
 along the side.
His head flat
 curled along his paw.
Listening
 for a sound or motion
the slightest movement
 to need attention.
Chubby little belly
 never eating breakfast
unless it's mine
 shared.
He waits patient
 hanging out
for those moments of play
 not yet ready.
A bark
 voicing his annoyance
at trucks or cars on the road
 passing by.
Once, twice
 those soulful big brown eyes
look straight at me
 staring to get my attention.
He waits
 patient and persevering
hopeful
 of my rising from the chair.
There it is
 and now the ball is in play.
A yawn, a burp, a stinky silent fart
 and he's ready
to play the companions part
 straight from that tiny heart.
Miniature Dachshund
Small and mighty,little and proud
One of the weeniest doggies around
but don't let size fool you, you're in for a treat
I am one of the bravest and loyalest you'll meet
The comical clown who just loves to play
I'll take no time to train if you show me the way
I'll play with your slippers, and sleep on your bed
and then when you're sleeping,lick your face, neck and head.
some say I am yappy but i swear its all rumors
My sharp high-pitched bark is just meant for intruders
I'll roll on my back and let you rub my tummy
I'll do anything for a small treat, if its yummy
potty training can take a while they say
but remember that Rome wasn't built in a day.
oh and dogs can be gassy so please beg my pardon
and I may dig the occasional hole in the garden
But if you're looking to take on a new life long friend
and you promise to care for me right to the end
you don't need to search far or start looking around
choose the 'doxie', the dachshund, the 'sausage dog' hound!
