or...Where's the SPCA when you need 'em?
A farmer's wife who was not very nice
Mutilated a trio of disabled mice.
Each squeaked for its life
As she wielded her knife
And disencumbered them all of their tails in a trice.

I expect his visit every night,
His company now routine.
He sings to me so softly,
Makes the roughest times serene.
The mere touch of his hand,
Brings the deepest peace to me,
I start to draw in deeper breaths,
He makes my eyes feel heavy.
And by the end of his sweet song,
My mind is disencumbered
He kisses gently on my cheek
As I give in to slumber.
But tonight it seems to be,
My dearest friend won't creep.
He overlooked my lullabye,
And now I can't find sleep.
I worry of his whereabouts,
Perhaps he just forgot,
But without his charming melody,
A dreamless night I've got.
But wait, he's finally come to me,
I hear his tranquil tune,
My mind will slowly drift away,
My dreams will be here soon.
He's sitting on my shoulder,
As he sings into my ear.
I yawn and stretch, and settle down.
So glad he made it here.
I'm mesmerized by the ballad,
Sung by my friendly sprite,
When he's done he'll visit you,
And sing you all good night.
