People of many nations
Rallied to the cause
United in their effort
To end two World Wars.
At the many Cenotaphs
Poppy Wreathes are laid
With two minutes silence
And National respect is paid.
Veterans of all generations
Think of their lost friends
Tears are held back as
Each ceremony ends.
We have kept our promise
Renewed every November
In spite of passing years
We will always remember.
The Cenotaphs Inscription
David J Walker
And when you find your path
To heaven
Looking back is not an option
Navigation flowing through
The heart
Reason set apart
from the gross
Realities of the earth as the domain
Of the second son of God
Yet
here we trod
And there we trod
As angels of lassitude
Hoping we are hovering
Believing if we touch the vulgar ground
We are grounded
Bury my heart in the clouds
The rest may be left beneath
The inscription on the cenotaph
Forgotten in the round
Black Oil (A Sonnet)
A first world country loads its planes with death encased in steel,
Sent to rain its deadly load on innocents and old.
A politician’s pride at stake, because he said he would;
Some poor man’s son will die this day, so a politician could.
No president’s son will see the front and die in foreign fields,
And as the hands of time move on, the politicians make their deals.
Their grievances long forgot, engraved on cenotaphs in foreign lands,
Your family’s names are etched in stone by history’s hands.
The history books will tell how two nations went to war,
Because of black oil drawn from a well, a cause we can’t ignore.
Yet in the silence of the night, the echoes still remain,
Of lives lost and dreams shattered, a never-ending pain.
So let us learn from past mistakes, and strive for peace instead,
To end the cycle of despair, and heal the wounds once bled.
Poppies lay on cenotaphs
for heroes that died in the wars,
they gave their lives for all of us
that's the reason, what they died for.
The fallen heroes lie
in every one of our hearts,
each year that passes by
we never let them part.
Not only the first and second world wars
but, in the Gulf and Afghanistan as well,
all of these fallen soldiers are remembered
went and are still going through a torturous hell.
The Korean War and Vietnam
can not be forgotten, at all,
those soldiers gave their lives
heroes died watching another fall.
