Guns stop firing, still the hate goes on,
with grievance still burning all along.
Peace talks halted, no hearts in repair,
Just hollow moments, trembling in air.

Need more than stalling, need to claw back trust,
Need to face the truth that inclusion is a must —
Not in the silence, but when hands entwine,
Not to encompass truce, but to redraw the line.

Hear what we're saying.
What we keep telling.
This ceasefire is only pause, not peace.
Guns fall silent; but none are melted down.

Ceasefire? — Just a pause.
Peace? — Takes a cause.
Stop the fight? — That’s nowhere near enough.
Mend the hurt? — We’ve got to do the hard stuff.
No more walls! — No more hate!
Justice now! — We will not wait!

Call it a start, but it’s not the end,
Peace turns a foe a'fighting into a friend.
Don’t pause at stopping, let the healing flow,
Plant seeds to settle; let green shoots grow.

The guns go silent, but the anger stays,
Smoke in riven hearts never just drifts away.
It's called a calm, but it’s just the hour before,
the storm returns, with deadlier power.

All we are saying —
Ceasefire’s not peace.
All we are saying —
Ceasefire’s not peace.

Another moment of silence
another flag half mast
another coffin dressed in colors
life's becoming quite a drag

Community garden filled with needles and tomatoes
tiptoe carefully keep the eyes wide open
the air is filled with bullets and black smoke
an asphalt man was selling paper roses.

Monday morning, there's an empty desk at school
wrong place at the wrong time-a Crayola angel died
caught in the crossfire between the reds and blues
grief counselor sooths but things will never be cool.

A child's watching cartoons- a sudden news flash
an arsonist found the perfect house, an entire family's dead
the only thing you can do is turn the channel fast
sunflowers and ceasefires never seem to last.

Another moment of silence
another flag half mast
another coffin sprayed with tears and taps
life's becoming quite a drag.

Yuletide here

Does this mean much to you,
Force fed at Yuletide too?
Unsure if Jesus meant all this,
Tinsel town of retail bliss,
Beginning to feel like Yuletide,
Snow in Aussie ocean tide,
Swimming and drinking,
What is Santa thinking?
Overfeeding everyone,
Overstuffed games in the sun,
Does Jesus think we're crude?
Groaning, here's more food,
Gimme more gifts and a card,
Graft for Christmas, that's so hard,
No matter who's to blame,
Mega stores feel no shame.
Buy, buy, buy, right away,
Rather ceasefires this festive day,
Despite Bing Crosby, okay
That's what Jesus would really say!

The Christmas Truce

In World War One a tiny ray of light
was kindled one bleak cold and wintry night.
On Christmas Eve amidst the throes of war
the blast of battle bruised the earth no more
and carols filled the air on either side
as harmony abridged the great divide.
A perfect peace pervaded no man’s land
whilst conflict ceased and men met hand to hand.
Such unity if only for one day
caused bitterness and hate to melt away.
There in the fearful trenches hearts would smile
and be at peace if only for a while.
Oh may the sinful heart of man break free
from selfish gain and war's futility.

20.01.21

The Christmas truce was a series of widespread unofficial ceasefires along the Western Front of the First World War around Christmas 1914.
