I dreamed I asked my dog Bixby,
"What should the third of your tricks be?"
He said, "I'll walk on a tightrope.
But if I fall, I have high hope,
if I break something, you'll fix me.

Some people's lives paint history books
with darkness, travesty, and evil.
Many other people, although worthy of
note, go unnoticed and unmentioned.
There is a lady of note to whom I wish
to respectfully give honor and thanks.
Upon hearing of Mrs. Bixby's plight
and grief, in 1863, President Abraham
Lincoln wrote her a letter of condolences.
Mr. Lincoln also spoke of his gratitude
for such a huge sacrifice from her family.
Mrs. Bixby had 5 sons, all of whom
according to the letter, died in
battle during the American Civil War.
On this Memorial Day of 2025, just the
thought of such a sacrifice touches me
deeply. I therefore humbly pause and bow
my head in silence for the ultimate sacrifice
of Mrs. Bixby's sons and for her gift to America.

"...that you are the mother of five sons who have died gloriously
on the field of battle". Letter To Mrs. Bixby, President Abraham Lincoln.
In 1864, from the files of the War Department, a statement was brought
to the attention of then President Abraham Lincoln. It referred to a mother
of five sons whose lives were lost in the Civil War. The statement engendered
a most sincere and heart-warming letter from the president to Mrs. Bixby. It was
a prayer for her bereavement and much gratitude for such "a costly sacrifice upon the altar of freedom". Today we pause to honor such heroes as Mrs. Bixby's sons.

(Dedicated to Bill Bixby who passed away November 21, 1993)
I loved to watch you in the late seventies.
You were a gifted actor and I'm sure that everyone agrees.
Whenever you got angry, Lou Ferrigno took over for you.
You were great as David Banner and as Tim O'Hara too.
You starred in My favorite martian before I was born.
Your death in 1993 made this nation mourn.
You were cremated and your ashes were scattered at sea.
You starred in at least one movie with Elvis Presley.
In the Apple dumpling gang, Susan Clark went wild when you bought that bed.
She misunderstood your intentions and hit you in the head.
Your death shows that life can be cruel.
You were a great guy and that's pretty cool.
