Best Statutes Poems
He is my inspiration.
Creator of Life, you are,
We extol your creative wonders.
We stand in awe at your wisdom,
We're compelled to pause and ponder.
Almighty God, you are,
Astonishing displays of your great power.
Your name for us is our shelter,
Our stronghold and our tower.
Sovereign Lord, you are,
Exercising dominion o'er all your creation.
We surrender to your ascendancy,
In unreserved dedication.
Ancient of Days, you are,
As revealed in your own word.
No one surpasses you in excellence,
Your blessings now conferred.
King of Righteousness, you are,
Your statutes and principles you give.
Wholeheartedly we shall obey your laws,
As long as we shall live.
King of Eternity, you are,
From indefinite past, to forever,
We disown ourselves in servitude,
Our resolute endeavor.
Majestic One, you are,
Incomparable in glory and holiness.
Your resplendent magnificence,
Only you possess.
Alpha and Omega, you are,
The beginning and the end.
Because of your great love, we choose,
To be your lifelong friends.
Praised be your holy name!
J ust and righteous is he.
E verlasting, to time indefinite.
H oly to the superlative degree.
O mniscient, all knowing, all wise.
V enerable, worthy of Worship.
A lmighty in power.
H ighly exalted.

Follow Jesus, read His Word,
Make straight paths for your feet.
Trust in Him, He is Sovereign LORD,
And His Truth is the light you'll meet.
Without His Word there is no fruit,
For it is the bread of our soul.
He is the Vine, our spirit's Root
His Power makes us whole.
Let us not stumble, lose our way,
We must stand on solid ground.
Strive to read the Bible each day,
It is there where Truth is found.

The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart.

Tree Top Dancers
and Circus Clowns
The neighbors moved away.
They said nothing to anyone,
they just left.
New people took the home.
There was a big truck.
It was full of boxes,
and a TV.
It was jam-packed with animals...
and cages and crates,
and statutes of...
Greek women holding water vases,
Greek men with harps.
The truck itself was all blue.
Funny, even the tires.
Odd.
I watched as they unloaded other things;
a giant clock that rang...
from the time they took it from the vehicle,
until it went... inside... (hushed tones).
There was a deep freezer,
the size you could fit six grown men...in.
One on top of another...
a side; by side by side by side, by side, by side.
There was a trunk with a hunchback,
and then a hunchback with a trunk.
What can I say... they were a pair,
I had to stare.
Unfair, I looked away.
Then the mom, and the dad...
came rolling up the drive.
They were in a giant bread truck;
made of cowhide?
A dozen kids on the back,
and even a few on a rack?
A lively crew of gypsies.
Carnies, forced to retire;
from long days,
now gone.
The circus, the show,
the festival of colors;
no more...
Come to a new place,
to put on a new face,
to leave no trace,
of all that was left behind.
Yet how do you start a fresh life,
from a comfortable place you always lived,
upside down, right side up,
cheers all around,
and elephants that danced,
giraffes that sang,
and popcorn was the main course;
at dinner.
Now everyday life,
full of strife,
trying to make things right,
somewhere in the world.
The clowns still make some laugh,
at every funny gaff,
even if...
it is not in a big shoe,
or under a giant tent.
Be happy.
It is a choice.

Frightened By the Polls
As frightened as a wolverine in a man-made metal trap,
The politician crawled out from under his rock.
Afraid, after his voting record was revealed,
He avoided facing his constituency and their votes.
Never had he seen such scathing, waving, hating arms.
A people’s representative turned belly-up.
One Senator, a rejected self-server, voted out!
His crown fell into the black mire.
Peaceful realms of his mind were jolted.
The plaza of his heart unfettered.
Sorrowfully, for him, self-serving statutes were stifled.
Laughing loudly his bloodthirsty opponents celebrated.
Their fun was short lived.
They, too, were soon hung out to dry on the pole, at the polls.
Because they failed to honor the value of our forefather’s demands,
Because they had misrepresented their voters again and again,
Because Americans stood tall and took Freedom’s stand,
They voted out self-servers and voted in honest men.
An entirely new era in Washington began.
The continuation of freedoms as our ancestors planned.
Constitutional guarantees for freedom were revived.
Soon, sunshine shone its smiling face upon ordinary people.
Society reclaimed her power.
Love, tolerance, respect, and individuality thrived.
God bless America.

Dane Smith-Johnsen
Hapless Hank severed a leg just below the knee,
When usin' a chainsaw heedlessly, you see!
He sued claimin' that it was a defective saw,
And hired an attorney to check the law.
"I've reviewed the statutes and I can't take yer case.
I'd recommend you plead mea culpa to save face."
"If yer case was heard by a judge it would rile his fury,
And I ain't about to bring such a case before a jury!"
"My law firm has determined that yer case is mighty weak.
Sorry, Hank, you ain't got a leg to stand on, so to speak!"

No one can imagine the horrors you've seen
The terrible events that must appear in your dreams
You can rarely share the evil you've seen
It must encroach your soul, your entire being
Defending a tourtured evil soul
Takes courage, knowledge, devotion, a goal
Trying to fight for a murderer's life
Because your love of the law, gives you your might
It's strengthened you, toughened you, wore down your heart
Putting others before you, you'll go down with a fight
Never judging the crime, the person, the soul
Fair treatment to all is your only goal.
Following statutes,motions and cases before
Devoting your all, deserving much more
It takes courage, thick skin, and love of mankind
To sit across many of the evilest minds
Doing the best job defending their crimes
Takes a person that understands what's inside their mind
Putting yourself in a mind such as theirs
Must have its consequences over the years
Yet you plug on defending these people for years
No one allowed to see your real tears
Your compassion for victims, children's lost lives
Must be buried inside, fighting for the other's lives
Your rarely given praise by society it seems
Even though what you do must affect all your dreams
I'm proud to say that my brother will fight
Even for those that don't respect life.
It takes a special person that chooses this life that you live
For the freedom of unjustly accused all your time you will give
Even if you save a few that weren't bad
The emotional toll on your life makes me quite sad.
For in the end whether or not you have won
Your caseload continues it does not sound fun.
It takes character,finesse intelligence too
To continue defending is what you must do.
IN THE FIRED FURNACE OF CALI
(APROPOS THE ANNUAL RUNNING OF FIRE AND MUD)
Roaring radiant raging waves of heat,
the charging beast, glowing red hot with anger,
devours all within its path; left over sable statutes
send streams of spiraling smoke sketching
grayish designs upon the hazy blue canvas above.
Weary eyes reflect the yellow-orange-red glow
that only the rage of a Dante-like hell could bring.
The wretched earth once again lay hopelessly
on the remnant of her charred bed: awaiting
her steaming tears to wash away the ashes.
In the meanwhile mourners collect scorched
memories: telltale recollections of sacrifices
nature left upon her Vulcan altar.
Admonishing against arrogance and apathy
Building lives buttressed with leadership brace
Caring for his children, blending compassion and circumspection
Daddy* dearest is decisive, determined, diligent, dedicated, disciplinarian...
Empowering with his enabling encouragement
Fatherly figure, firming up family fortress by his faith-fortitude
Godly in gearing, guarding, governing, guiding along grace goodness
Hoisting us toward holiness-height, happiness’ health and heavenly hope...
Instructor was Dad: intelligent and inspiring
Jovial while being just; amidst job-stress, jubilant
Keen in his knowledge kingdom for kindling kindness
Leading us to love’s light along liberating lessons in life...
Man of mercy and might, managing meaningfully
Nurturing so well with Mom’s nursing nourishment
Offering and opening great opportunities for optimization
Prayerful Dad propelled us to perform with best for progress
Quitting not in doing best despite qualms to attain noble quests...
Reverberating Dad’s legacy, worth remembering
Surely serving as steadfast statutes of strength’s stamina
Truthful indeed against trying times toward triumphant tasks
Unwavering since he had them exemplified by the Lord’s uplift
Values he did instill is us verily make us victors, vanquishing vanity...
Wonderful Dad, you have made us today’s winners
‘Xample you are to us, a champion , a hero of ‘xcellence
Your memory* lives in our hearts forever; yes, beyond eternity’s yon
Zealous are we to thank you, and we praise the Lord for your virtues’ zest.
*Proverbs 10:7 The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.
Daddy Roberto passed away on January 2, 2019, as he was called to be with the Lord forever. Dad, by the grace and power of the Lord, left us - his children and his grandchildren - with a great testimony of a blessed fulfilled life as a husband, father, brother, church member, community contributor; indeed a virtuous life-builder.

Let the Light of Your Face Shine Upon Us
“6 Many are asking, "Who can show us any good?" Let the light of your face shine upon us, O LORD.7 You have filled my heart with greater joy than when their grain and new wine abound. 8 I will lie down and sleep in peacefor you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety." Psa 8:1 NIV
Let the light of Your face shine upon us
Fill our hearts with Your joy
May we lie down in peace
Both peace and safety may we enjoy
Because of Your great mercy
We bow down toward Your temple
Lead us Lord in Your righteousness
Make our enemies to stumble
Let the light of Your face shine upon us
Bathe us in Your righteous glory
Destroy the nations’ road map
For they know not Israel’s story
Cast all demonic powers
Completely out of sight
We’ll hold fast to your statutes
Bring Your whirlwind into the night
Let the light of Your face shine upon us
For we have returned unto You
Be merciful towards Your people
For the wicked have come into view
They are commissioned to destroy us
But You have the final say
Demonic powers are but dust
You have the power to blow away
Let the light of Your face shine upon us
Let us take refuge in You
For there’s no safer haven
From the two hundred million, not few
We trust in Your deliverance
For this is a spiritual war
Let the light from Your face shine upon us
It is You, Lord, forever we’ll adore.
