Best Senses Reel Poems
The sound of baroque fills the air
the lively beats one can hear
as senses reel to music sweet
elves dance upon imaginary leaves .
The orchestra reaches crescendo
shattering crystals of chandeliers on high
staccatto beats .....the doe skids across the icy field
as snow cascade down from cypress trees.
Violins squeak ...Trombones blare
mandolins vibrate the inner ear.
The harp thrills......soft ripples along the narrow stream,
fish jumping into sunbeams.
Cymbals clash , a metallic crash...splintered timbers caught in lightening flash
A silent throb...the music dims... a cool beeze flows over the hills
soothing, drawing all into a warm embrace
calming the spirit , slowing the pace.
The music wanes...... delicate snowflakes stuck to window panes
A Grand finale......twitching nerves that long for solace.
Silence now as the music stops.
Peace follows music sweet.... into dreams.
Baroque music lives on....do not weep.
Sleep now ....sleep.
Like snowflakes on my eyelashes
Like the gentle wind that blows
Like the rustle of leaves on trees
and birds chirping in the eaves
You come each day and touch my soul
With fingers warm and light
And kiss my cheek a breath of jasmine
that make my senses reel
Illusive as a sunbeam
I know when you’re near
By the scent of love’s sweet fragrance
and the upcurl of my hair
When my heart's bursting with joy
and your light comes shining through
I know ti's you dear God,
I know ti's you.
Inspired by Maya Angelou.
SLEEP
Death's dress rehearsal.
Our nightly practice for the end
A compromise to darkness
while we wait for morning's light
The world in all its beauty
then breaks upon our sight
And we partake in living
as our senses reel again
We hear the droning distance
Breathe the freshness in the air
Heady fragrance of the blossoms
Feel the bustle everywhere
How can the final sleep be endless slumber,
If in rehearsal, it was all, to wait for light ?
Beyond an unknown realm
in that first dawning
What great wonder will we wake to?
What delight ?
Suzanne Delaney
I took a drive
To clear my mind
To the mountains
Left the world behind
Air so fresh
Skies so blue
Troubling thoughts
Only of you
A selfish soul
A wandering eye
Any skirt would do
Don’t ask me why
Sitting on this mountain
How free I feel
From regrets or mercy
My senses reel
As darkness looms
The moon appears
A blanket of stars
Deletes my fears
Froth
spilling
from large mugs
brimming with chilled
Bavarian beer.
Spiced delicacies tempt.
The aroma of grilled meat
pervades the night as senses reel.
Waitresses in traditional dress
serve folks to the sound of music and song.

I can’t see around the corners
or what in darkness prevails
but I hear the thuds and bumps at night
and the swoosh from the monster’s tail
I smell the stench of aggressions
that putrid, awful perfume
it permeates my weaknesses
my senses reel in this room
my eyes can’t see before me
this gloom is way too thick
if I could find some matches
I’d light the candle’s wick
green-eyed is its make-up
and while it lays in wait
no activity for weeks and weeks
as it hones its cheating game
trusting is the flag I wave
virtuous and white
blinding in the daytime
fluorescent in the night
love like this doesn’t grow on trees
not even on any vine
am I growing like moss on you?
or wasting precious time?
one last shot to get it right
once more I offer a chance
watching, waiting on I go
doing this sweet, sweet dance
I’ll slay the monsters, one by one
I’ll be the only one left
I’ll stand here just as long I can
drying the tears I’ve wept
I stand high on a mountain top, a lowly being.......yet elevated in spirit ... reaching
out to a place beyond this world..
Vision impaired I am....yet I see all things otherwise concealed from the naked
eye.
Hearing impaired...yet I hear the whispers of angels........bell-like and fragile
tinkling on the wings of time.
Weakened joints are mine...yet I run and leap as my spirit soars to boundless
heights.
Dry bitter taste in my mouth.....yet I savor flavors on the tougue of my
soul.....Hyacinth..lavender... upon my breath.
Sad thoughts twist my heart....yet boundless joy surrounds me....such comfort to
my soul.
Though tears of regret blind me... tears of joy fill the eyes that look beyond
this earth.
Polluted air fill my lungs ...yet my senses reel from fragrances sublime.
I touch the cold, jagged rocks of earth, sharp and unforgiving.....yet another place
I touch....soft, tender , loving ....a place far away ........Eternity.
Sweet melodies and hushed whispers I hear, but only with the ears of my soul
as I stand between Earth and Heaven......in the space between two worlds.
A spiritual being I am, trapped in a physical mold.
Sorceress, with smile you beckon,
Promised pleasures dark, fulfilling.
Costs, I know, too high to reckon,
Quivering flesh is weak but willing.
Neck to toe in Spanish leather,
Sweet and sultry curves to cover.
“Your soul is lost to me forever”
Softly snarls my demon lover.
I drift enchanted in a trance,
Darker, deeper drawn within.
Cupid plays the viper’s dance,
Serpent swaying, sloughs her skin.
Her warm embrace constricts my breath,
While fingers trace their fiery path.
My senses reel as if in death.
Worldly weakness enflames her wrath.
Bloody furrows cut my back
Arched to welcome searing pain.
Dripping fangs, my throat attack.
Feline fury springs again.
Sorceress, you repudiate
this worn and wasted bloodless husk.
My costs too high to calculate,
I’m cursed to roam this realm of dusk.
It used to be that when I closed my eyes
Dandelion wishes of youth would tickle my mind.
Wishes of forever that I never truly grasped....
A dream of true love I never honestly trusted....
A completion of self I never truly felt:
~ Until you.
And now when I close my eyes, it’s you that I see...
(My dream realized)
And my senses reel from the heat of your touch
That lingers still - even after you’ve gone....
Instinctively I breathe you in (longingly)
Wanting to taste you:
Savoring the memory of your caress on my lips
Teasing my need for more:
Fanning the flame of desire that never fades.
And I smell you (forever found in your scent)....
And I feel you (true love found in your embrace)....
And I hear the whisper of your voice
~ My axis that guides me home.
And in my craving to touch you one more time
I am completed by the sensation of your kiss
~ Pouring life into my soul.
Hesitant feet on uncertain ground.
A hesitant heart making no sound.
Daring to beat too hard and too fast.
Daring to dream and pray love will last.
Butterfly tingles, senses reel:
Dare I tell him how I feel?
Eyes veiled with longing;
An empty hand grasps ~
For a chance at tomorrow
And his love to last.
Ah the smell of coffee in a paper cup
Like a vision of heaven with both eyes shut
The overwhelming joy
Like your first kiss as a boy
Your senses reel and it bonks your coconut
Ah the smell of coffee in a paper cup
Like a vision from heaven with both eyes shut
The overwhelming joy
Like your first kiss as a boy
Your senses reel and it bonks your coconut
Test of Time
It Has Been a Long Time
Since We Stood and Said "I Do"
I Loved You Then I Love You Now
My Heart Belongs to You
Today You Sent Me Flowers
They Were Pretty as Can Be
And Such a Sweet Reminder
Of the Love You Have for Me
So Rare, with So Much Beauty
Our Love Will Always Be
You and I Together
For Everyone to See
I Wonder If They Notice
How You Make Me Feel
You Lift Me up So High
You Make My Senses Reel
We Have Stood the Test of Time
Who Could Ask for More
Especially When You Love Me
Behind Our Bedroom Door
I Love You

Ah the smell of coffee in a paper cup
Like a vision of heaven with both eyes shut
The overwhelming joy
Like your first kiss as a boy
Your senses reel and it bonks your coconut
When it comes to fantasy your still my go to man
late at night as my pillow creases from abuse
I lay there still and let my senses reel
with the touch of your eyes and the brush of your
corpuscle smile...
As morning arrives flushed with the memory
of yesterday's salty dream
I stand at the window staring at a tousled girl
who rims the shadows of an early morning rill
Curtains agape, kitchen lights on,
a fatalistic morning arrives
as I recall the reflections of a warm body
and words, of unspoken feel ;
I unflinch and whisper I love u's ,
to the wind
and the debris,
outside my front yard.
