Best Mothervoice Poems
Angel on my right shoulder battles devil on my left
Ever guiding my actions, saving my soul from bereft
Angels are among us, like Clarence on Stewart's bridge
Reminding us to avoid falling from grace at the ridge
My special angel's sweet voice sounds so much like my mother's
We each have a conscience that is unlike any other's
Spirits of loved ones who've passed want us to know heaven's joy
So we’ll reunite with them and eternal bliss enjoy
So, Mom, if you are listening, your voice overtakes evil
Helping me find the right path, you have mastered soul retrieval
A wonderful life is bestowed by a righteous urging
From an angel observer seeking spiritual merging
My sense of right and wrong will still create battles ahead
But if I heed my mother’s voice, I’ll never be misled

For the "Me Against Myself" contest
Just 'fore words formed inside my head
as my mother put me to bed
her sweet voice would rhyme to lull me
tales of children wild and misled.
Who ran and played and sang and danced
deep in teepees as in a trance.
Or climbing atop the walls of castles
dueled with broom stick used as lance.
The children’s hour was our time
to kiss and snuggle laugh and sigh.
And she taught me of Paul Revere
of his rushed ride with red coats nigh.
So many Longfellow tales told
of bold, real or imagined feats
that never did I want her voice
to stop or pause or to repeat.
Tennyson could tell a tale of
charging brigands in full retreat.
But, none could met the glory of
Longfellow’s stories so replete!
*Longfellow wrote Hiawatha, The Chidren's Hour, and Paul Revere's Ride
among dozens of other poem stories. In the 1920's children were taught
history through the use of poetry.
FOR MY MOTHER
Today I took a journey
I traveled to a place.
I saw my mother resting,
A smile upon her face.
I closed my eyes in sadness
and thought about our days.
It all became so clouded,
It seemed to be a haze.
Then suddenly I felt a touch so soft upon my cheek
A gentle voice came through the haze it was so mild and meek.
A voice so soft, a voice so sweet
and this is what it said.
I'll always be your mother,
I'll never go away,
For if you ever need me,
I'm just a thought away.
I raised you right
I know I did and this is how I know.
God would not have moved me from this earth,
If I had not met His goal.
