Best Mothercry Poems
If I cry
It must be the memory
Of a skirt unlifted by a gust
To still a boy's misery
And wipe my eyes dry
Of tears
For the way time sears
Us like flowers
And reaped my mother
Before I was ready to let her go.
If I cry
I cry for days she sheltered me
From a child's web of fallacy
And put her spittle on my knee
Where bruised flesh
Was a boy's view of tragedy.
I would press my face
Against her dress
And feared no goliath
Or loneliness.
If I cry
I cry for evenings on the porch
When she gathered us
Our feet white with blowing dust
And hunger like a miner
Drilling us
We had so little to eat some days
But she with prayers picked fruits
Of heaven's mercy
And we thankful ate together
And heard her ancient anecdotes
Of ancestors' exploits that floats
Still upon a manhood sky.
If I cry
I cry that mothers' days are meaningless
When the sight of flowers
Are frail veils upon a grave
And the customized Christmas cards
Will not sparkle her eyes
Just before the kiss upon my cheek
Honoring me for faithfulness
And knowing her love measures more
More than a day
More than the years that sums earth's decay.
If I cry
I cry for the love of my mother
For the woman and life giver
For God to bring
Order to this unruly thing
That spoons our purpose to a cup
Swallow us
Before the dusk with each sup
Of time, diminishing us
I cry for faith to hold my trust
Against the agony of loss
Death is a demonic disgust
That makes me long
To substitute all tears for angels song.
If I cry
Preserved my hope with brine of eye
To live again
Without death or pain
And run with my mother
Through the clapping ovation of summer rain.
Over the fields,through the meadows,
I roam about with glee
My joy has no bound
when you are close to me
When in my dreams, terror I see
I feel like wanting to cry and plea
but nothing do I ever dread
when you are close to me
I scamper about on the grounds
whenever I am free
when I fall , I do not cry
when you are close to me
When you call for studying
I reach at the count of three
I study very hard
when you are close to me
I can strike the highest peak
I can swim in the deepest sea
I can reach even the moon
when you are close to me.
Mother!!!
We cry out each time,
FATHER!!!
We don't all the time.
Wherever we are, she is there,
No matter the distance, she is near.
We cry on her in the midnight,
She gives us attention without thinking twice,
We should love her,
We should adore her.
She is always there when father isn't,
She finds you, when you get missing,
She makes my day,
She didn't care when giving birth to me in pain.
She stood by me when no one did,
She dressed my bed whenever I want to sleep.
What would it take to pay her back?
I think you have to make her to understand,
That really she did a great job,
Bringing this wonderful being into her world.
It is not too much to ask,
Let’s not be ashamed and close our face with a mask.
No matter what she looks like,
She is still the one who gave us the life.
I wish I could see her now,
But I know she hears when I shout...
MAMA...
Another friend has lost her mother
painful cancer and then broken hip
to hasten the end
tears
stand in her eyes
looking for mother
eyes I have known as a child
so I wipe her eyes
with my fingers
as mother is gone
and she crumples against me
giving in to grief
to being an orphan
to the awful alone-ness that envelopes you
when both your parents are dead
dead and gone
I hold her there and let her cry
through that mighty fear
we cry together
lost as children
just
children
