Low Tide
Act 1: Sand
I remember
The hushed curve of a wave
Spooling around my heart
Unfurled strength
Melting to the rhythm of a calming storm
Passing across the damp reflection of evening sand
Act 2: Moon
I remember
The fickle breath of foam
Whispering against my back
Honey-stained Paspalum
Basking in slivers of bleached sun
Leaping across the sails of a thousand ships
Act 3: Stars
I remember
The depth of an ocean’s sigh
Reaching refuge along the shoreline
A chandelier of stars
Paying homage to the distant pull of a planet
Soaked in swirls of methylene blue

Old mooring pylon
with shag aloft,
wings flapping.
Fitness freaks with dogs
jog the shore -
one woman in particular,
her thighs slapping.
An old heron and I
are amused -
we fly away,
both of us clapping.

The tide's out at present
Means the water's further away
There's a whole lot more
Beach out there
Than there was
Six or even five hours ago
Temporary real estate
Suitable for construction
Of the grandest of sandcastles
Unobstructed sea views
One hundred and eighty degree vista
No permit required
Its a longer walk to the water
But not as far to swim
As it often is
This time of day
It's thanks to the moon we're told
Taking the beach away
Every 12 hours
For cleaning I imagine

Low tide
The tide slips out
and the sand becomes part of time
Sifting moments into memories
scattered along a shore
of neglected feelings,
disappearing on the
dampened outline
of life

Low Tide
The moon continues her cycle
Around our earthly sphere
And with gravity she pulls
At the waters deep and clear
The planet keeps on spinning
And the land moves either side
Of the manipulated water
And the beach receives its tide.
The water now is distant
And the seabed is on view
Low tide for short hours
Before it’s hidden by the blue.

Orange brushstrokes on the horizon bleed into the red of the setting sun
The indigo sea silently extinguishes the crimson sun for another day
The tide out to its peak, the sand warm beneath our feet, fingers entwined
Our silence comfortable, our touch speaking for us, two hearts combined
The water gently laps the sand as we stand together watching the brilliant moon
rise
You pull me close, my arm wrapped tightly across your shoulders, our hearts
beating in time
Enjoying every aspect of my time with you, I know it will have to end soon, if only
there was a way
I turn to you, wrapping you tightly in my arms, the sweet smell of your hair; I’ll
make you mine one day

...comes now the ebb,
between twigs, someone spins
its silken web...
...brown twigs are such
one's fingertips desert
their sense of touch..!
