Snowman

Cocooned and tucked away
In a chrysalis
Snowman melts
Sooty are his tears

Outside a lacustrine beauty
His nose is the first casualty
It falls on the ground
Bang

He was a freeman
Once the snowman
Stood mighty and high
On this very lake
Brilliant white.
Kept sentinel over both fish and sharks
His woolen scarf of crimson dye
His eyes of onyx
His orange nose of frost bite

With natural authority
He ordered the unruly school of fish
Under the ice to keep quiet
Blood- thirsty sharks
Kowtowed to him.
The mighty lord of the winter.
The snowman kept the icicles
Solid. Hurricanes swirled the snow
Into dust. Unshaken was snowman, still!
Kept his icy cool.
Flocculent snow added layers upon
Layer to the mystical lake
Below his un-shooed feet
And his hat
He blew off the snow in excess
On his Scarlet hat
And carried on.

It was the morn
Ice clouds drifted above his head
Like lost lambs.
He heard a throaty voice
It was the voice of the evil pirate
Unmistakably so.

The legend had it that
The pirate took immediate
Dislike to the snowman
Who grew to have more authority
Over fish and sharks
Even the boats anchored
On the shores of the lake
The pirate had to see to it.

He approached behind
 the snowman maliciously
He had a rancid smell:
Rotten fish.
So that the snowman
Began coughing.
He grabbed hold of the snowman
And enveloped him in a chrysalis.

Today snowman sweated
Helplessly in the chrysalis:
His arms spirited away.
His legs liquefied.
There was so little left
Of the essence of the snowman.
Though his spirit made of ice clung to hope.

In the pristine jade landscape
the terrain rolls undulating...
the panorama of pristine cadence,
on its entrenched earthen cradle
shaped for a serene lake…
sublimely supine sparkling,
the sapphire crystal face looks up
toward the cerulean sky...
mesmerized.

The gliding southern zephyr
whispers an enticing melody
to the dancing ripples…
intensely passionate concentric rhythm,
sliding on the slithering shadows of trees,
lining the contours of the lapping shore...
adorned.

The wavering lotus leaves float
on the vibration of pulsating fervor,
the full bloom scarlet flush of flower
makes the collage of a fiery tapestry
with the feathers of flaming flamingos,
their ballerina legs wading
the emerald waters in avian grace,
their supple napes swiveling
in arty show of aquatic ballet...
surreal.

In the hypnotic gleam of the setting sun
I watch the lacustrine opera…
enthralled.

In bejeweled jade landscape

the sculpted panorama
of pristine cadence,
entrenches in earthen frame
the sprawling shape

The southern zephyr

Premium Member Poet In Search of Poem

Dear Budding Poet,

Modern poetry to me is the reflection of the chaos and
declining intolerance of modern times. It expresses the pent-up
emotions writhing in complexity trying to embrace our beautiful lives.

I know you’re a budding poet pining to express yourself and
aspiring to make a mark. My advice to you would
be to listen to your heart and transcribe in your own way what
it says. It’ll become a poem because your heart is the window
on the world through which you perceive the human values taking
intricate shapes, yarns of emotions weaving tapestry of joy
and grief, and the beauty of life designing ecstasy in your mind.
Don't ever close this window. You look out at the pristine
nature and absorb the elegance it frames. You would reach
the realm of exaltation when your mind would swim on
imagination. Let it flow in its own course meandering through
the landscape of your times. Wake up the muse in you and
let it float. You’ll then find formless blocks of words appear
as imagery. You need to use your pen to sculpt from these
the piece of art, your poetry.

Poetry in my life is like a perennial fountain drenching my
parched mind, drowning my sorrow, draining my tears
and satiating me with joy of creation.

My favorite themes : nature, love, emotions, fantasy,
introspection, desire, dream.

My favorite reference sources : www. howmanysyllables.com,
Cliché Finder, Thesaurus, www.rhymezone.com.

Titles of my favorite poems I’ve written (in order of preference) :
Atmospheric Pressure, Your Lacustrine Beauty, Through
The Opaque Night, Flowing Silence, As I was Walking In The Snow,
Searching You, Sign of Times, Kite Flies Away From Concrete
Jungle, Opening The Mind’s Petals, Embrace of Quietus.

My literary background : I’m an Earth Scientist having a doctorate
degree, published many scientific papers , received national
awards for research. My parents who were teachers of
literature infused in me the love for poetry. I started writing poetry
from high school days, published 4 books of poems.

Suggestion for book title : “The making of a poet”,
“Poems in search of a poet”.

Once Upon a Meaningful Life

Upon meadows of luscious green,
A lubricious life of sweet serene…
Upon valleys of the vastness view,
A liquescent life of the dawning dew.

Upon majestic mountain’s perky peaks,
A loquacious life as Heaven soundly speaks…
Upon the refreshing rivers rejoicing runs,
A lacustrine life amidst smiling suns.

Upon caring clouds that hold their weep,
A lachrymal life as the skies soaking sweep…
Upon towering trees that swing and sway,
A liliaceous life in a perennial play.

For life is love and love is life.

YOUR LACUSTRINE BEAUTY

In the wasteland the tormented life made me make
The repentance wander in the wild conceding the mistake
The nimbus clouds hovered overhead but I couldn’t take
The rains, they dried making a desert for me in the wake
Until you came, created an oasis where you became a lake.

You made in my deep depression torrents of fluid joy to flow
In your tranquil depths you drowned my deranged sorrow
The breeze on face made ripples of smile in a charming show
Flooded by sunshine my dancing reflection I see on you glow.

In your sensuous serenity you dissolve my somber sky’s blue
I see all the hues of my twilight colors gleam in glory on you
Where the flight of ecstasy takes me then you don’t have clue.

If the drought of distress desiccates your desolate floor dry
My tears would flow to your core to fill you with love, I’d try.

For I don’t want to see the lacustrine beauty you ever lose.

When the squalls of tough times would give my life a shake
I’d sink within your placid water, still as the cosmos, below
Discover the bliss in me your aquatic touch would grow anew
On dreamy nights on the arms of your moonlit shore I’d lie
Drenched, I’d soak you deep within, keep in my heart close.

Lacustrine

The yearning is there
The temptation is strong
Should I take the chance
When I’m fully aware
Of that one breathless glance
I’m undecided and torn
Stricken by fear and longing
I see myself slip
The hunger has already been born
And I’m caught in the grip
Of your lacustrine eyes…

The Frog And The Chameleon

From out of the lacustrine, dense tract, green
Lining the silent mossy forlorn lake keen ,
Came out leaping and hopping,a fat frog ;
He landed and stopped on a reedy clog ,
As he saw the Chameleon on a stem frail ,
Gripping fast the rush with its prehensile tail ,
Croaking and flicking his tongue around,
To relish one and all the insects found ;
He made his own way on the rich moss,
And back and forth on the spread-over grass ;
His acrobatics envied and enraged the rival
Watching silently with rolling eyes since arrival .

The crestfallen had missed his chance thrice
And retracted to sit still like frozen ice -
Having lost  to the place his colour and stance ;
Thrill and anxiety did the  crux spell enchnce ;
A surly serpent suddenly sprang,as if to mock
Hissing , out of the crevice beneath a rock ;
It was a measured move -a prize catch ;
The victim was more a meal than a match ,
And went in neatly with a suppressed wail  ;
The avenged lizard quirked and muttered his hail :
Pride goes pouncing and swooping before a fall ,
Thus to end up with a whimper, defeat and all.

Premium Member Panorama of Passion

In seamless sky up above the wasteland of my wan life,
clumps of cumulus cloud hovered rainless all the while.
In their smoldering shadow a desert spawned in my heart,
and at its fringe in the oasis of yearning you became a lake.

In its tranquil depth you drowned the dregs of my despair,
torrents of fervid joy flowed from you in my depression.
The beguiling breeze made ripples of smile on your face,
where in the moonshine I was reflected in sensory shimmer.

My cerulean sky dissolved in your sensuous azure serenity,
sunburst colors of my dawn painted the panorama of passion,
the hues of my dusk spread emotive spectrum on your visage,
where had the flight of ecstasy taken me, you didn’t know.

The desert wind could never desiccate your lacustrine beauty,
I would unfollow the transient trails of mirage to reach you.
In diaphanous night on arms of your moonlit shore I would lie,
and in your ambrosial essence I would submerge my soul.

Sprawling aspirant verdance vibrant,
engraves desire on the ashen sky,
spring-saturated spectral exuberance
spreads on my heart’s emerald canvas.

On the arid cinnamon ground cleaved ,
my auburn desolation pervades sly
through smoldered venation of leaves
with the evergreen hopes entwined.

The unseen tears wept in a torrent
fill the lacustrine cauldron of pathos,
forlorn life’s skeletal essence remains
erect still on the eroded mind’s brink.

The cadence of the fervent zephyr
from the yonder vale of yearning,
glides on rhapsody of lilac lagoon heart,
pulsating with the ripples of dream.

Sprawling aspirant vivacious incandescence,
engraves spectrum of passion on the ashen sky,
spring-saturated spectral exuberance spreads
on my heart’s emerald canvas coming to life.

On the arid cinnamon ground cleaved to the core,
my auburn desolation pervades and creeps in the sly
through the wilted venation of the fallen frail leaves,
with evergreen tunes of hopes riding on their rustle.

The unclosed eyes wept the unseen tears in a torrent,
filled the lacustrine cauldron of fathomless pathos,
forlorn life’s skeletal essence of verdance remained
upright still in the thicket on the mind’s eroded banks.

The cadence of symphony of the fervent zephyr,
floating from the yonder uplifted plateau of yearning,
glided with current of melody on the lilac lagoon heart,
pulsating with the ripples of rhapsody in the bay of bliss.
