KIDDIE SCORN
Little boy blue went
looking for a stray
He came upon a
maiden asleep in the
hay
Said he, I’ll slip
round and kiss her
awake
But found he’d made
a bad mistake
For pretty Nell,
though small in
size,
Sent Blue a crying
with two black eyes
Do you trust in the future enough to have kids,
Or is family - flailing of heart split in two?
Is it more symptomatic of life on the skids
Could it be that a child's an extension of you?
Is desire to feel love what gives birth to a child?
I'm just asking a question here, don't mean to judge,
Or an act of amoral libido run wild
With a consequence, 'parent,' you're hoping to fudge?
Do you think that a child's like an unfinished rhyme?
To create what 'outlives' you I well understand
But a child is not you, is itself all the time
And it's future's more fluid, no way its path's planned!
I think poetry too's more a 'gift' of my muse,
But my poem's an action I'm dreaming will serve,
(Did you make sperm or egg? I don't mean to confuse!)
Are you stranger at-bat, life has just thrown a curve?
Did I make words that rhyme, or first music, its beat?
And my consciousness, time, are both seas I swim in,
What I did not create, does this spell my defeat?
'Greater Author' acknowledged might mean we all win!

I saw them lock eyes
she smiled and they had a moment
then she changed like a mirage as she got closer
it dawned on him what happened after a while
she' s like a kiddie pool
so shallow and not very polite
so fake and so un-neat
maybe someday
my hope is without too much pain
she'll be able to see
maybe even change
My uniform is pressed and my boots are polished, I’m a good Paramedic
I’m ready to start my day
I filled the kiddie pool with water last night; it should be cold enough for me now
I’m not totally sure why I need to lay in it, but I guess I’ll find out once I’m there
My uniform is pressed and my boots are polished, I’m a good Paramedic
I lay back into the pool with my body half in and half out
My head floats slightly and my hair is weightless around me
I can’t really breathe
This feels like drowning
Wait, why am I here? How did this happen?
Just stand up! You’re drowning in a foot of water
Just stand up!
My uniform is pressed and my boots are polished, I’m a good Paramedic
My co-workers pass by and can see my shining boots
They keep on walking past me
One stops to see what I’m doing
Just stand up, he says, its not that bad
Just stand up, it’s so simple
I can’t move, I don’t understand why I got here
The doctors come and whisper under their breath
They look blurry through the water
One tells me this is just who I am now
I guess this is my new home
Take these pills, and just lay back
Take these pills and just accept your new life
Take off your uniform you don’t need it anymore
Can’t they see I’m drowning?
Wait wait! Somebody please, just pick me up
I’m drowning
It’s so simple
I’m drowning
Just lay back
I’m drowning
I did this to myself
It’s so simple
I was a good Paramedic
