WHAT?

Thanksgiving’s on the way
This had crossed my mind
But what?
While shopping the mall yesterday I came on this display –
Who could miss it? –
Shelves and shelves full of teddy bears nutcrackers
    dolls delicate ornaments and then!
this big open square rimmed with the most perfect
synthetic trees one might imagine – silver trees green
trees blue trees even a red tree
    all decorated magnificently
In the middle exactly in the middle of the square – a stage
an empty throne and this short white slat-fence
    enclosing the whole
I shook my head
What happened to Thanksgiving?
Who the hell is thinking about Thanksgiving?
    certainly not the merchants!
Well I wandered down the aisle toward the food court
    and guess what?
I come across a pen with a real live turkey strutting around
Seems I was wrong about the merchants
So? To top it off – in the food court at one of the tables
there sits a man in suspenders white tee shirt red
trousers red coat draped across the back of the chair a
phony white beard red cap lying on the table
He is one ugly bony faced misshapen human being
Santa’s on lunch break gravy and partly chewed food
spilled down his chin bald head red as a beet
I can’t help staring at him totally freaked
He looks my way smiles
“Gobble gobble” says St. Nick

My nose is getting red like Santa’s perhaps I’ll grow a beard
Welcome to my holiday home at this special time of year
I’ve hidden all the wrapped up boxes and all the clutters cleared
My son is on the air-o-plane he is getting VERY, very near!

Got the balsam wreathes up from Big Y and hung them on the doors
Welcome to my holiday home at this special time of year
Go pick a pretty bulb out from the boxes on the floor
and set it out at ready for the big tree will soon appear.

Soon I’ll drive to JFK to get the MAN that big ole kid
Welcome to my holiday home at this special time of year
If I had a bright red sleigh I’d get there fast like Santa did,
avoiding all the Yuletide traffic, why yes, I’d steer right clear.

With my red nose and a borrowed beard, red hat and all
Welcome to my holiday home at this special time of year
I’d shift the pillow in my drawers and the crowd would be appalled
You’d see security winking “There’s a coo-coo over here!”

They’d let me through with no pat down, no scan of Santa’s tummy
Welcome to my holiday home at this special time of year
I’d shout it to the customs guards “It’s just HIS loony Mummy!”
I need him to set up the pine tree before he disappears.

His friends have called their all waiting there is more of them than me
Welcome to my holiday home at this special time of year
One of the few times I see that boy by time and spaces decree
I’ll call them all to gather for the trimmings of yesteryear.

Overload

All I want is red in bed
I don't think it's much to ask
red sheets, red hair, red hot love...
will my heart survive?

We Looked To the Sky To See the Rockets Red Glare

I went to Narragansett to watch the show
With family and friends and people gathered I didn’t know
Great food drinks and plenty of song
A perfect day nothing went wrong

The fun we had you cannot compare
We looked to the sky to see the rockets red glare

The smell of the salt water brought a smile to my face
The warmth of goodwill made me feel right at home in that place
We socialized all day and into the twilight
Went to Kelly beach and watched the fire works light up the night

The fun we had you cannot compare
We looked to the sky to see the rockets red glare

A great time to all those who were there
We shall never forget this star-studded affair
The fresh ocean atmosphere made us sleep in
We partied well and the memory of it will always make us grin

The fun we had you cannot compare
We looked to the sky to see the rockets red glare
