Carpenter

cluck! cluck!! cluck!!

He hammers a nail into the hardwood,
wiping sweat from his brow as the scorching sun prides itself in the middle of the sky.

He examines a curve on the casket he is making,
he is dissatisfied, he grabs a chisel and begins to chisel away carefully.
As every splinter of wood falls to the ground he nods his head in satisfaction,
he stops to wipe more sweat from his brow
he mutters something to himself,
looks up to the sky angrily and curses the heavens for the heat.

But isn't it man who brought the sun closer?
well, that is what the govt official who came to our village told us,
"global warming" he called it.

I wonder why he labours so hard to make this ugly reminder of death look perfect,
the dead do not care about aesthetics,
I do not think they care so much what happens to their bodies here bury it, burn it, they get a new one either way.

Native American collage

Traditional tribals that followed Sioux religion,
Had spiritual beliefs
performed controversial dance ceremonies,
Waken- the great spirit
was one universal source,
Mother Earth birthed all
animals, plants and humans,
Black Elk sheltered all,
The sacred hoop said unity,
Circles symbolised oneness,

Invisible Great spirit was Sioux God,
Thunderbird powerful spirit of sky,
Underwater spirits that controlled all commons,

Humans wanted to communicate,
Shamanic practices
to interpret dreams and trances,
Performed rituals for vision,
With visions and dreams
they could talk to spirits,

Native Americans
far more believed in,
Death and rebirth,
Curiosity on afterlife
a human's breath,

Native American collage,
Is all that's holy and mysterious !!

Interesting to note that American govt. Banned their practises in 1800, still we are trying to solve this puzzle of life and afterlife- through now called science.

The word "Cherokee" is believed to be derived from a Choctaw word meaning "Cave People". Another explanation says it came from a Creek word "Chelokee", meaning "People Of A Different Speech".
It was picked up and used by the Europeans as "Cherokee" and was eventually accepted and adopted by the Cherokee in the form of Tsalagi or Jalagi.
In their own language the Cherokee originally called themselves The Aniyunvyia
or Anniyaya meaning The Principle People or The Keetoowah or Anikituaghi, Anikituhwagi meaning "People Of Kituhwa".
Although they usually accept being called Cherokee, many prefer Tsalagi Ayili.
Traditionally the people now known as Cherokee refer to themselves as Aniyun-wiya, a name usually translated as "The Real People".
Other names applied to the Cherokee have been:
Allegheny, Delaware, Arapaho, Chilukki(dog people), Osage and Kansa.
Their first encounter with the Europeans was with Hernando Desoto in 1540.
The English traders appeared among the Cherokee in 1673.
They first went to war with the colonists in 1711 and were devastated by epidemics of disease such as small pox during that century.
In 1835 the U.S. Govt. passed The Removal Act . Principal Chief John Ross refused to recognize the legality or validity of the Removal Act and challenged it in court.
The Supreme Court rulled in favor of The Cherokee Nation.
President Jackson said : "Justice Marshall has made his decision. Now let him enforce it."
You all know what happened after that.

The Piece of Peace

The sky is a mass field of common wealth
Air,light and water yields of common wealth
Along and across, the lines drawn on the political map
Like nerves running over the body
Bounding the water resources as mile stones
Separated the hearts not the soil
Unrest, tearing the unity and peace, piece by piece
The idea of inventing bottles
Made drinking water a marketing commodity
Water is the champion in some own camps
Water is a weapon in the agenda of the world war,the last
Polluting environment inch by inch
Money making minds, burning oil in sleepless nights
To discover a vial to make "inhaling fresh air" a commercial commodity
There stands greed as a dividing wall of common wealth
In between rich and poor
Rich is right and poor is left!
Up setting the order of common wealth sharing and caring
Great not greed, greet not greed, slogan is fake!
The spider spins it's own web for it to run
Anger, jealous and affection a World Wide Web
People unaware the tool of love to cut it to get out
Love and affection got out of hearts and hiding in the armpits
Where,Where is peace?
True, the foundation of commonwealth is strong as the Great Wall
"Breaking the Earth of one fourth
Bringing people of one third
Briefing the heads in good word
Business become,commonwealth"
This "mantra" is not answering the burning issues
If meeting is the answer, that's to meet the peace not people
It is a waste of time and money otherwise
"It is like going to the toilet,
There is a sitting, then there is a report and matter is dropped"
A veteran Lankan parliamentarian as revealed
Out of fifty three seats of Commonwealth
Find the fifty fourth one
Let peace sit down on fifty fourth seat
Let it the pivot of searching peace
Pick up all pieces of peace
Past it on the wall of CHOGM
It is greater than the Chinese Great Wall, very strong!
Resolve,peace!
Dissolve finding peace!!

(This poem is on the 23rd the CHOGM-Commonwealth Heads of Govt. Meeting-
taking place in Sri Lanka from 15th to 17th November 2013)

Sinecure

A mosquito on my hand! I smiled at her
She evaded my eyes and dug deep into my skin
‘zrrrrrrrrrr’! Sipped my blood without fear
Again I smiled; rather I did grin

This time she looked with dozy eyes at me
Laughed aloud and tried to take off,
Stumbled a bit and fumbled her way to the
Nearby chair and managed to cough

She looked around as if she is unable
To see anything and moved precariously
Towards the cabinet at the corner wall
Looked at the files and left my room lazily

Few weeks later, during my evening stroll
Along the side of a drainage channel
I found that mosquito and called her
“I haven’t seen you for too long! Gone where?”

She looked aghast at me and after a long brood
Said, “By our mosquito-king’s decree
I never dared to come to your sinecure
The order said; never touch a Govt. servant’s blood”

Rabindranath's Paintings - a Painter's Amazement 1

When a great poet paints - the voyage
turns internal - discovering
the hidden treasures of souls
The saga unfolds...
A poetry

lines and
curves

A recipient of the Nobel Prize (1913) for literature, Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941) was born in an affluent Bengali family. The versatile genius developed an acute sensibility towards various art forms such as literature, poetry, dance and music. He was well aware of contemporary cultural trends around the world. Tagore’s journey as a painter began in his late sixties as an extension of his poetic consciousness. Though he had hardly any formal training in art, he developed a highly imaginative and spontaneous visual vocabulary, enhanced by a sound understanding of visual art practices such as modern western, primitive and child art. - Source : National Gallery of Modern Art, Govt. of India, http://ngmaindia.gov.in/sh-rabindranath.asp

If you want to enjoy his paintings, please google it. As Nayda has restricted this contest in Nonet form, I have to finish it in nine lines only. But I wish to write a Haibun on this subject later, to satisfy my humble self.

Premium Member A Hundred Hands

I’d like to have a hundred hands
That portrayed in a tale
To expand the two hands
That gifted by my parents

A Hundred hands to set up the tents
In the refugee camp;
To offer fresh water to the kids
In the dry countries
Deforested by the timber lords;
To blanket the old people
Whom they switched budget
From the welfare to weaponry.
To inspire the blinds
In place of the leading dogs.

I’d like to have a hundred hands
To hug and to pacify
The miserable grassroots people
Whom their govt rated them as
Slaves!

Stupid Soldier

Young boy with no education
Joins the army to be a hero
Acts like a coward in the frontline
Goes crazy when his team are killed
Rapes and kills local children,
but is pardoned by guilty government
Stupid soldier, just the govt's pawn
When will you all learn?
It's all about power, not you protecting the country
They don't give a **** when you come back all crazy
Suffering from traumatic stress you lose everything
You family disown you, your homeless and alone
The govt don't care, they got what they wanted
From baby killer to a utter embarrassment
Thats the life of a stupid soldier.

Orwellian Times

More paper work to fill out about your personal business,
the taxman and bank tellers being more inquisitive,
you have no health insurance or car insurance on your vehicle,
the motor vehicle department and govt. watches like an eagle,

One day soon we'll become totally cashless,
just using our debit cards to purchase items on a daily basis,
the latest being how they want humans to be "chipped,"
with all our personal information since birth installed in it,

Drones are used to keep an eye on us,
cameras around cities and town and even on the bus,
robots being used in factories to replace humans beings,
take a look yourself because seeing is believing,

The latest technology used by doctors and their nurse,
anyway you look at it technology can be a blessing or an Orwellian curse.

Political ordeal

Criticising every good move,
Is that what opposition means ?
Putting party above country
politics left no more than a dirty game.

Feeling joy of having an honest PM
positivity is apparent in the air,
His dreams of taking us to heights
which no citizen has any doubts about.

Yet for their own selfish motives
trying to misguide innocent minds,
Disrupting the internal civil peace,
Miscreants are joining hands,

In name of colour and religion,
Trying to divide the sons of a mother,
Disrespect and betrayal to our motherland,
raising slogans in anti national tints,

As beaming sunrise illuminates minds
and ebony cover of thoughts evanesces,
Be sure the good days are knocking
with happiness and prosperity on the way.

Today's political ordeal in India -Ever since PM Narinder Modi has come to power with a majority democratic govt.... opposition is trying to play anti national and foul games.
Congress had a historical defeat, didn't do any good in last decade, corruption touched peaks n poor turning poorer, are now not letting the govt function.
But Modi Govt. is determined to give its best and we people of India have full faith in him.

Mahatma Gandhiji

My humble tribute to a great personality:

When India won freedom, he did not attend the celebration, rather he was on road helping all, trying to end communal violence. He said how can I celebrate when so many are in distress.

Dawn At Park

It was at Evening,
I reached to a wedding.
There were many signs of raining,
People all around stopped playing.

The sky grew dark,
Dogs did bark
Stars hid their Spark.
Me, sitting in the park.

Some voices said, they out the Bride.
I guessed if she did hide.
So, me with others set out for a searching ride,
On the mid way, a biker on the road did slide.

Then, in my mind rose a dilemma's beam,
To save her or to rescue him.
The Sky grew more and more dim,
Dilemma sped in the blood stream.

To help the Bride or to save his life,
Has become a severe brain strife.
Decision should be as sharp as a Knife,
It's also important to save someone's wife.

I set to him to rescue,
To him I questioned "How are you?"
His life was still a due,
For him to Survive, I gave him a clue.

I rushed with him to the Hospital,
It was a Govt. Hospital in the state capital.
Then, reached there, all.
He was then alright and sat in the hall.

Education Reforms In India

If we have to make a new India we will have to do reforms in our education system and all these reforms have to start primary to higher education. We will take up reforms from primary to higher level as follows:
PRIMARY & SECONDARY EDUCATION
The whole educational system should be recast. Instead of 10+2+3, it should be changed to 8+2+2+3. Govt. should make education compulsory up to Std VIII. The examination should be conducted at VIIIth standard level as it was conducted earlier in British Raj and only those who secured good marks in VIIIth standard should be allowed to study in Govt. aided institutions. The rest should be diverted to either unaided Institutes or Vocational Courses. The Govt. should spend on Vocational Institutes of various fields from Taluka level and the present ITI Institute should be merged with these vocational Institutes.

The municipal and local authorities are forcing the Management in aided schools to admit 60 to 80 students in a classroom. This practice should be stopped and like in ICSE board, the strength of students in a classroom should be of 30 to 40 students. This will help the Teachers to give personal attention to students and the quality of education will improve.

To encourage the school going students in villages, slums & poor students should be given a maturity bond of Rs. 1,000/- up to seventh std. and Rs. 5,000/- for 10th std. studies, and Rs. 10,000/- bond for graduation studies and Rs. 25,000/- bond for post-graduation studies. This bond will automatically help them for higher studies. The state Govt. giving this type of bond should get separate subsidy from the central Govt. This facility should be available to all weaker students of the society whose parent’s income is less than national average income or those who are below the poverty line.

Premium Member I Am So Annoyed

I am so annoyed

Ringtones I cherished once
are now mere headache,
Buzzing at odd hours
advertisements, bank calls,
saving schemes,
As if being paid
to waste precious time
and annoy people ?
Who gives them numbers?
I simply go crazy........

Social media
so much negativity,
Insensible discussions
biased against some,
Religious issues
put to flame, why ?
To promote hatred
and violence, why ?
I just can't stand........

Where are the owners?
The politicians,
The so called learned,
spreading the fire
and flaring up civil war,
Justice denied,
Corruption flourishes,
Govt offices taking bribe,
I am out of my mind.....

Even the top educated
throw waste on roads,
Spitting and smoking
at public places,
Cry our waters
on getting polluted,
Noise irritates
even the sick at hospitals,
The air we breathe
gases beyond permissible,
Eating up greens
In name of development,
I am so annoyed......

Do we leave to our young,
A world of misery?
Selfishness and hatred?
Poor birds and creatures
on verge of extinction?
Nature crying
exploited mother Earth ?
Wake up wake up,
you hearts bleeding white,
those thoughtless minds,
Wake up wake up,
I am so annoyed.........

Sweet ringtone of my phone......
Lovely morning......
Positivity.......

An Ideal Government

If I become head of a country this is what I will do
Solve common problems of country men such that joy will ensue

Provide free food to all, life without food most miserable
Criminals are born when hunger pangs become unbearable

Standardize education, make it compulsory for all
Would provide food and hostel in school, it would be free for all

Study of scriptures, values compulsory subject in school
Nurture talents, vocational education, sports in school

All hospitals and doctors would give free medicines, treatment,
They would be paid by govt, no one would die for lack of treatment

All contest election as independent, on their own trait
One who gets most votes amongst others becomes head of the state

All using their own brains, no one following any leader
Many brains together deciding policies, not leader

Stop all wars, weapons manufactured only for self defence
War kills many, brings multiple miseries, wars make no sense

Stop space missions to other planets for they serve no purpose
Use that money for environment, other useful purpose

If I can make my countrymen happy, I will be happy
I feel head of state should solve problems, try to make all happy

Food, clothing shelter, education, health, blissful life
How many head of state solve these real problems of life?
