Best Good Day Poems
"O-ka-hey!", the Sioux warrior's cry,
"Today is a good day to die!"
Tribal drums beat along banks of the river,
White mists drift upon the turquoise-blue,
They take their aim with bow and quiver,
Ready to fight for a purpose, free and true.
"O-ka-hey!", the Sioux warrior's cry,
"Today is a good day to die!"
Into the heart of battle they will ride,
Mounted upon a fearless palomino horse,
Lead by their ancient spirit guide,
He courageously braves his course.
"O-ka-hey!", the Sioux warrior's cry,
"Today is a good day to die!"
Blood-stained fields of dry autumn maize,
Was predicted by spirit guides to happen soon,
A golden sun rises in the morning haze,
And sets on darker days of many moon.
"O-ka-hey!", the Sioux warrior's cry,
"Today is a good day to die!"
Written for Shanity Rain's contest - "Native American People"
Note: "maize" is a Native-American word which means "corn".
"O-ka-hey" was a battle cry from the Sioux Indians,
it meant "today is a good day to die"
I am not sure of the spelling of this phrase.
If anyone knows the correct spelling, I would greatly appreciate the help.

The snow was as light as dust in the wind
The air a steady thirty-three, my breath slightly visible
My nose, ears and cheeks reddened and wet
Whilst staring into the bliss with watery eyes, they dripped
Thoughts of my father
Thoughts of my mother
Thoughts of my brother, Joseph
I cried so nice... remembering them
Four and Twenty blackbirds...
Not yet baked, sailed onto my lawn
I heard my mom singing me that song again
A hidden from the clouds jet- roared
I saw my dad in the window- waving
When a somehow not-frozen worm wiggled in the grass
I saw my brother Joe- fishing
With the snow now thickened and the air dropping
A steady stream of mist exhausts from my mouth
But... I felt warmth
I felt comfort
I felt my loved ones presence all around
I felt like... Like it was a good day to cry

Verse
My friend died today,
She said it was a good day to die.
The Sun was shining and the air warm.
Doves were cooing and birds were singing
My friend died today,
She said it was a good day to die.
Dogs were chasing balls,
Cats were lying stretched out in the sun
My friend died today,
She said it was a good day to die.
Children were playing in the park,
Watched over by mothers and fathers.
My friend died today,
She said it was a good day to die.
No one missed her as she slipped peacefully away,
The flowers fluttered in the breeze as if to wave goodbye
My friend died today,
She said it was a good day to die.
How I miss her laughter and her tender smile.
I wish it had not been such a good day for dying.

It's a good day to be happy
It's a good day to smile
It's a good day to enjoy life
Make every day worthwhile
It's a good day to be happy
It's a good day to feel free
It's always a good day to take a chance
On life's sweet mysteries

Today is a good day to have a good day
One more opportunity was given, the sunlight stroke your face
Appreciate; play with life as if you were to play with clay
There’s love in people as there’s water in a bay
A good laugh, a wise advice, and one thousand more verbs
Today is a good day to have a good day
One alphabet, twenty-seven letters, infinitive wise phrases to say
Words, sentences, more powerful than a nuclear weapon
Appreciate; play with life as if you were to play with clay
When days get dark and cold, we pray
Hopefully next day will be a new beginning
Today is a good day to have a good day
Gentle gestures to needed people must spread like a spray
To the train of happiness will lead
Appreciate; play with life as if you were to play with clay.
And you my friend, who is in agony pain
Your future depend on yourself
Today is a good day to have a good day
Appreciate; play with life as if you were to play with clay.

Decay is a constant state. No matter what you do it begins as soon as you start. The clock starts ticking towards failure. All systems fail. It’s a know fact. Some are patched and rebuilt, others replaced, and some fade away. But in the end they all fail to placate the human spirit of going on with this insane charade. You cannot fix the world. You cannot even fix your own fate. All you can do is breath and work towards what society has deemed important. You live in a petri dish.
I watch from the outside as your dreams are crushed under the foot of faith in the system. The system is broken. It is a machine that has reached its mean time till failure and that time is now. Have you spoken to Jesus lately? Is he in your contact list on your phone? Do you know your mother’s phone number? Can you call her and get unconditional love?
Television, streaming video, ***********, laughable politics, and Mexican heroin are all at your fingertips. You lie in bed as the alarm sounds and dread another day in the system. It’s all rotting around you. You must save it! So dress yourself up in the uniform of your profession and meet with your peers. Dance the dance and walk the walk. It all feels so familiar. Yet, it is somehow very disturbing. You are suppose to be and individual. But life has put you in your place. You cower under the burden of the sunlight of a belief system based in power…
I lie on the couch. I watch Showtime. I don’t care. I am decaying. I am lifeless in this world of non-reality.
I used to ride my bicycle when I was young. I felt it could take me anywhere. Now I have an automobile and it takes me nowhere.
There used to be a future. Now there is only living in the moment. I hate each moment.
Joy. Fear. Loneliness. Desperation. Love. What does it matter in the end?
I will take with me what I started with in this world. I am not a child of this world.
Leave if you must. Stay if you can. Smoke ‘em if you got ‘em.
I smell fear on your breath. Death is near.
Have another beer my friend. It is a good day to die.

A Good Day
Dr. James E. Martin
©December, 2012
The day is going to be good.
This thought is well understood.
No need for worry
Nor running from things furry
That monster is made out of wood.

Limerick
We pick de cotton,
yah gib us mo' seeds
We plant de wheat and corn,
yah gat us pluckin' up mo' weeds
We gather all de fruit,
yah ke'p it all from us
We boil de dry roots,
yah eat de fresh bulbs
We git de guts, tongue and feet,
yah git de best choice cut meat
We only git to have
what yah th'ow 'way
We only be free,
on de good burial day
A tribute to Frederick Douglas,
a homage to his poem, "We Raise de Wheat"
from "My Bondage, My Freedom" 1853

Dramatic Verse
Today is a good day
I can open my eyes and I can see
Today is a good day
Even if I can not see, I can speak
Today is a good day
Even if I can not speak, I can hear
Today is a good day
Even if I can not hear, I can touch
Today is a good day
Even if I can not touch, I can love
Today is a good day
Even if I can not see, speak, hear or touch
I can still love and be loved
Today is a good day
I am alive

Starting the day to a reggae beat.
Sun is in my face, oh yes!
Wishing I was at an island beach.
My feet are moving, oh yes!
My heart is gone, fully unleashed,
bouncing off the walls, oh yes!
Be ready students, here come the teach!

Blessed are you, this God's great day!
Get up and in the Lord's will, stay
To follow His orders, with faith - don’t delay
First things first… you should pray!!!
Make the most out of this wondrous morning…
Upon His strength, keep on leaning
From inconvenience, quit complaining
Praise God, you’re safe from hell’s burning.
Time is God's precious gift; don’t waste
Optimize seconds with prudent haste
Avoid the mess of vanity's paste...
Feast on righteousness-taste!
Go serve Him now with His guiding hand…
Advance His kingdom thru His command
Yield willingly to His divine demand
His Word-the Bible must uphold your Christian stand!
Fulfill your stewardship roles with diligence-poise
Amidst temptation-whisper and trials' noise
By His might, triumph in your servanthood-choice
While in the Lord you always rejoice*!!!
*Deuteronomy 26:11 ...Rejoice in every good thing which the LORD thy God hath given unto thee.

First thing in the morning give thanks for seeing
another Glorious day. Then smile and be on your
way. Ask for guidance if your skies are gray then
Be a Blessing for someone that's in dismay. Now
bad is sad but if you let it get you down you've been
had.
It's all up to you so if you let bad choose you loose
Now your heart, if you let the Lord steer you will be
filled with cheer, then go do something good like
volunteer, you might even work up a blister but it's
well worth it to help your sister.
It could even be a bit painful, but you could be helping
an Angel who's undercover, posing as your brother
For we all need help as quietly as it's kept. That
will give you leeway to look to the sky and say
Hey, The Making Of A GOOD DAY.

A Good Day.
The way Lord has made it.
To think anything else shades it
Best thing to do is behave in it.
Seek no glory for you shall have it.
In each day is to live that way
Mindful of things that lead astray.
See them in this grateful way
Lasting for a moment to say.
God has it no other way.
