Cherries in a Box
Cherries in a box
Foxes hot to trot
The angels fall from the mystic clouds
Onto the roman ruins on mountaintops
Lions Roar
Violins weep musical rain drop tears
Eaten is the soul of man
As the ancient crowds jump and cheer
Ero arrests the reporters of his sins
Palaces and waltzes saturated in gin
As the devil creeps up behind the gate
His destiny to change the human conditions fate
The skies are dark
Chocolate from the child’s sweat
Cherries all lined up in a box
Ah but will it be us humans next
Olive branches hiding lustful deceit
The groves of the masses become deplete
Never resting, never complete
Cherries sour, sold as sweet

Abecedarian
Is it a butterfly out in the blue,
poised in its daintily delicate flight—
nebula N G C six three oh two—
offering rhymers a poem to write?
In our galaxy, that is the Way Milky,
with structure bipolar in particular,
appear those elongated wings so silky,
from the gas that’s spewed forth perpendicular
to the doughnut-shaped dust ring pinching its core.
Talk about outer space distances far,
this butterfly stretches two light-years and more,
half the distance from Sun to the nearest star,
which is Alpha Centauri, to be precise.
This fairytale picture, a magical treat
like sugar and spice and everything nice,
doth awaken our childhood senses sweet.
Found in the Scorpius Constellation,
it’s known as the Bug Nebula as well.
Yet in this versified celebration
its Butterfly name suits the tale to tell.
With dust belt that gives it an hourglass mien,
though appearance deceives and perceptions can spoil,
one conjures up quite an impression serene.
But cauldrons of heated gas furiously roil
within each planetary nebula wing
of the butterfly that it’s resembling.
The gas tears across this immense outer space
at six hundred thousand miles an hour!
Imagine a butterfly at such a pace
frantically flitting from flower to flower!
So Butterfly Nebula’s not as it seems.
Like the bubble, bubble, trouble and toil
in nightmarish witch Shakespearean dreams,
it is seething in inner and outer turmoil…
And with dying star center five times mass solar,
no wonder that poor butterfly is bipolar!
~ Harley White
[Inspiration for the poem was from the article, 'Butterfly Emerges from Stellar Demise in Planetary Nebula NGC 6302' ~ Image: NGC 6302 (Butterfly Nebula, Bug Nebula) ~ The image is a composite of separate exposures made by the WFC3 instrument on the Hubble Space Telescope. Six filters were used to sample narrow wavelength ranges. The color results from assigning different hues (colors) to each monochromatic image. ~ Image credit: NASA, ESA, and the Hubble SM4 ERO Team]

Lyric
Linear time is a nether dimension
ticking backwards ...
Z(ero) is reaching the A(pex)
Raised eyes see the future fading;
distant points of light died
a long time ago,
yet, they still shine bright today
Linear understanding
only can see things simply one way
Horizontal perception is the neural cloudy grey
Try to explain the exponential multiplicity
of a consciousness-expanding
quantum reality —
A palace with many mansions within
is the elevation explanation
wholly given to those who’ve had linear understanding,
and now can vertically perceive
How events long hence,
is the wrinkle of change in fate awaiting:
A shattered heart made whole
by a temporal role reversal
Linear understanding is a glacial half-life:
Decaying time
reactor chained to the frozen past
Destiny yet-to-be determined,
is a narrow, spherical hole
in the middle of a wide hourglass
Fools who gaze into the sun too long,
have their understanding darkened
Illumination begins when one looks within ...
truth is a sharp arrow shaped linear
Has the past been reconciled
with an inevitable, expiration date inhalation end
The death of dreams unrealized,
is the linear motivation
which lift the eyes —
Hope always breathes new life

L-et it all hang out,

R-eveal your true feelings,
O-ne opportunity to be honest;

He was a hero (not)
Infinite frigid cool-frozen cold subzero
A circle infinite ero
Resting on a pillow
Nestled in asleep in the willow
Mouth wide open, open curtains
Has a guest, not his wife and let
He rose,
She rose
Not a Godly man
Steppin out, and (just got caught)
Now label both them just wearin a sheet
Standin on their feet
in vitro-vitro
Not a good righteous couple neither one of them
Mine hero they’re just zeros
This couple of adulterers no heroes

R-ain has stopped falling
O-n March twenty-fifth day;
S-un is beginning to rise;
E-vening chill has gone away.
A-nother morn has broken,
N-ew dawn is now shining;
N-o longer I see the dusk and twilight of the evening.
G-ray clouds have disappeared,

N-ight darkness is over,
Z-ero haze floats in the air.
A-fter the storm has faded,
L-ight in the sky turns bright;
E-arly mist passes from view,
S-hadows are nowhere in sight.
E-very cloud up above,
S-ilver lining is in there;

A-s you can make it anywhere.
L-ose not standing your ground,
A-im for sparkling victory;
N-ot for a moment must you quit
T-o reach the

(Note: In this abecedarian poem, I redacted the name of the particular denomination to protect the innocent and to universalize the context. Fill in your own favorite groups! Prejudice against those perceived to be “other” than “us” infiltrates human hearts no matter the identity or extent of the difference.)
Closed Community Prejudice (an Alphabetized Memoir)
By Mark D. Stucky
Almost everyone in my home community
belonged to _________ churches.
Churches not _________ (like Methodist and Lutheran)
didn’t seem “right” somehow, although nobody whispered it.
Every other group was less homogenous than us,
fated to be born “different” from us.
Good people maybe.
However,
inferior to us surely.
Just not quite like us.
Knew them only superficially.
Looked like us on the outside.
Maybe not that different after all?
No, they weren’t the same ethnicity as us.
Otherness lurked inside them.
…
Perhaps prejudices in all people,
quietly
rise
slowly
toward
unholy
vantage points.
What if
xenophobes, like
you and me, could
zero out all our distortions?

N-ight shadows have shifted
I-nto a new day dawning;
Z-ero visibility has turned
I-nto a clear air of morning.
E-venfall has fled for cover, staying away from the scenery;

I-n the beautiful view
L-akes and rivers are seen;
A-cross the plains in sight
N-ew springs make the meadow green.
