The Electoral College
By Franklin Price
9/17/2017
The Electoral College is outdated they say
Should never have been, and is not for today
They say that the people are not having their way
That the College votes wrong, for the right kind of pay
Do those people who say that, understand why it's there?
Do they know what would happen, or do they even care?
Is the majority vote, always something that's fair?
Keep your mind open, as you read this, I dare.
We are a republic, not a democracy
Government is by the people in this land of the free
But there are fifty states, in this country you see
All have an interest, not only just three
Each state independent and each has its rights
If you think that's not true, think of Civil War fights
The people, of all states, must each have a say
If the College was gone that would not be the way.
The Federal based government does not give a damn
About ones in Alaska, might as well be Siam
Not enough people to get their flim flam
Or add to their power and get them more ham
We're in need of less power in that Washington place
Each state should have rights, and their spot in the race
Isn't it time for less egg on our face?
To govern this country with style and with grace
To do away with the College would make matters worse
Larger states would have deeper hands in our purse
More budget to them would cause small states to curse
Already pay taxes that are not reimbursed
You can see less have more in this land of the rich
They need not pay taxes, trickle down is their pitch
Taxes come from the middle and there life's a *****
If the college was gone, it would add to the glitch
The College should stay, if we really care
For each of the states and the residents there
If we really are interested and want to be fair
Make the Feds less controlling of the laws in their lair

Do Away With Electoral College
With others for office should fairly contend;
Remove electoral college and rules amend;
Take a gander,
At gerrymander;
We must only use popular vote in the end.

I call upon my fellow leaders to know that there can only
be one winner in an election,
and the rest contenders risk losing the elections__
Even after losing the elections, you must learn to love one another
and live your life as if you were a winner.
I was the commander- in -chief of the armed forces and I could
have disputed the outcome of elections and endangered the
lives of my countrymen__ into a blood civil war.
After losing the elections as an incumbent president, some compatriots
called me a coward for accepting defeat!
Therefore,I urge my fellow leaders still serving as presidents to emulate
my decision of accepting defeat and to realise that even after losing
presidency you wil still live a dignified life.

Narrative
I'm losing
I'm losing bad,
and I always win
I'm mad
I'm losing to a girl,
and that is the number one macho sin
You gotta help me out,
heard you got a way to turn this thing around
The sign says, come to you when in doubt,
now what can you do to get me that presidential crown
Aah, what doth I to service thee,
knowest yon future what the price be?
A distressed king's soul render the highest fee
Listen you old witch,
don't price haggle with me
Whatever the cost is, I agree
But you gotta move quick,
it has to be done fast
The polls are plummeting, my campaign's out of gas
The cost incurred, ye will surely pay
But set thine oath aside,
to be visited upon some cloud shrouded day
Now ye seek to pilfer power democratically
Done in dark guise,
as maleficent vessels move in water secretively
Now you're talking my talk,
but I still don't have the slightest clue
What does the boil in the cauldron reveal to you?
Does it see me winning,
am I victorious at the end of it all?
What's the verdict, what's the call?!
Yea, yea, the pot with the witches brew doth speak,
and the events it portend
will surely be of the enticing thine heart seek
Drink of the bitter elixir, O my vexed prince;
drink of it all, drink of it deep
Let not one drop be spilled, or remain hence
For the thing ye desire so desperately to hold,
in the elixir tis now bound to thine soul
Whilst watchful eyes weary, and diligence wax cold
For the thing ye greatly desire so desperately to see:
As a thief, this election, ye will abscond electorally

When the monopoly game rings out
Who stands stubborn pushing their clout?
Where does reality bounce?
On the chessboard of hope and change
Taxes rearranged, fiat shuffling
Help the sick and needy
The court jester needs buffering
I'm calling the foolhardy bluff
That redistricts citizen electioneering
The jibe is up
Career politicians dancing with time
While TV auctions stamp the mind
We must participate
In the creation of our own lives
Hatchet the grid that chants otherwise

mom says she can’t wait
till’ the election is over.
mom says she’s sick of
hearing them talk.
mom says they’re reading from
the same script, only using different
words.
mom says she’d rather they both
just walk.
mom says that dad is scared of
the man who believes in joseph smith,
having his finger on the button
telling us all that being poor is not his
problem.
mom says dad’s sick of hearing the
president talk of problems instead of
solving em’.
mom says it will get better, that it
won’t always be this insane.
mom says she’ll be dead sooner than
later,
so she doesn’t care
anyway.

With a veiled threat
Donald Trump now challenges the electorate
A t-shirt with his smiling face reads, 'Miss Me Yet?'
Mr. Trump, you're a big risk-taker ~ 'Wanna bet?!'

The electoral college for President I say
Forget the humans
The electoral college is the real hero
Always making sure that many of our votes never count
What a treasure
A national phenomenon
That has ruined most of our lives
One non-vote at a time

Lament the clumsy stumble bum who bungles his debut
By mumbling his monologue and missing every cue.
He wanders freely off his mark and often flubs his lines.
His timing’s unpredictable. His rhythm bumps and grinds.
He hams it up like Barrymore and eats the scenery whole.
His critics shame him endlessly, then eulogize his soul.
But though the humbled imbecile stands slack-jawed center stage,
He’s chosen best supporting actor this post-modern age.
His talents prove sufficient in the arts of song and dance
To stand him for election and provide him with a chance.
So he shall be the candidate his party comes to choose.
No matter how the voting goes, he knows he just can't lose.

Electoral College is proof
Many have grown long in the tooth.
Some votes do not count.
Hurt feelings soon mount.
Democracy is our big spoof.

Political Verse
When I was founded, I worked.
I was never supposed to be used after I stopped working.
I am broken, people.
I am discouraging voters.
Why bother to vote when your vote consistently never counts?
Each person should have the same vote weight.
One person, one vote.
I am breaking the spirit of your country.
You thought you were a democracy.
You were told that; it is what our soldiers fight to defend.
Now you know we are a republic, and you are so sad.
Popular vote makes sense now. It could save you.
Abolish me, please.

while waiting for a red light)
a.“gee, ya think it’s an election year?”
b.“ya know andy, i don’t know whether it’s
an election year, or whether they’re just
sellin’ somethin’.”
a.“wow. there it is, the american electoral
process in a nutshell! kudos mom, kudos."

Well look at all the new ones looking for a dance
they're hiding on the network looking for romance
Half of them have boy friends, some of them have wives
all of them complaining about their lonely lives
Now don't misunderstand me, I've often fell in line
but I get tired of dancing and playing all the time
I'm so tired to prove that I am not a jerk
while all the time inside of me, there's a monster on the lurk
I think that's true in all of us but we try to hide it all
the doctors have a medicine for all the things it's called
We simply must be perfect, we never are to blame
I think it's just the world we're in where little stays the same.
If you should point your finger, is it reflection that you see
maybe what your looking at is just as bad as me
I say don't even trip it, were all just struggling to survive
we all just do the best we can to help us stay alive
can someone give me real and stimulate my mind
I'm tired of circle jerking to the same old bump and grind
