Best 1967 Poems
I remember
so well
the friends
that I made
when childhood
was wrapped
in blue sky
but I cannot
remember
the last time
we played
- and whether
we all said
goodbye.
CANCER circa 1967
It ate away at compassion
chewed ragged the edges of love
hard breath drawn through clenched teeth
fighting the whisper
denying the thought
“why can’t she just let go….and die?”
However long it was, was too long.
To watch hopelessly
mindlessly, angrily
as she lay in a drugged stupor
IV’s supplying sustenance
but no relief for her
or for us.
She did eventually let go….and die.
It brought no closure for us
only the angst of anger’s guilt
the emptiness of hope’s folly
and the sadness of wishing it so.

Again I write to someone
Who is like myself.
I find her saying what is in my mind.
Strange it is to hear your words
As someone else does speak.
I look down into her eyes
And see the life within her burn.
Her skin is soft and warm to feel,
And smooth as ivory cloth.
Her hair is dark, black like night.
I kiss her once and feel her near
And know that she is mine.
We learn to talk and speak.
Then to sing.
Then to express our views,
And what is in our heart.
We put what we have learned to one,
Our songs of love and protest,
A little life,
Springing from a stagnate pool,
Beautyand, to some, ugliness.
Twisted matter within my mind,
Calling, screaming, struggling to be free.
It knows not what it has to find,
Or what it has to be.
Turned loose, it runs, a life it found.
To be a force of mind and thought,
Then to find it lost and bound
To it with heart and it its' thought.
Then to me, back it comes from her
To tell of learning of a life
That I could find in her,
Telling me of love and life.
The day has just started,
It lies ahead like a mountain,
With trails that must be followed
And pitfalls that must be overcome.
But I look toward the coming day,
For I will see you,
And I will have many thoughts
Of you today.
Surveying over her kingdom,
In silent flight on hushed wings,
With eyes that search the field for life
Her ears detect the slightest sound.
She kills her prey and tears it too-
And feeds her hungry one.
I once knew a man
Named
Peter
Hughes
He
Was
A
Biker
He
Was
A
Barber
Too
He
Said
Never use
A
Comb
When
You
Get
Out
Of
The
Shower
Always
Use
A
Brush
When
He
Got
Back
To
The
House
That afternoon
And asked me
What’s up?
In
A
Rare mood
I was
Silent
He
Said
I’m
All
Easy-rode-out
screams
running
from commons
protests turn red
scared
fear
colors
oozing from
Vietnam's hushed

I smell a darker age
I fear a fiercer rage
the conflagration will begin a new page
in the history of a country once named.
More 'saints' would die
birds of bullets would fly
and there'll be no barricades to hide,
nature will cry!
Have you long forgotten
the excruciating pains of 1967?
Art thou diagnosed with dementia
of how our streets were soaked
with the placentas of pregnant mothers?
How hopeless our children felt
when heartbeats of parents couldn't be felt...
Art thou forgetful of the bloody taste of water
and how emaciated our kids were?
Oh that thou would visit thy past
Oh that thou would visualise the path
that thou thread,
Oh that thou disallow an imminent war!
My heart bleeds, bleeds the more(sobs)

When we met, you were
So much younger; back stage,
You were sitting on a stool
With your guitar.
We spoke about music,
Your fans and travel
And how tough the road was,
How you’d come so far.
Even then you were a legend,
Though then your hair was
Free from peppered grey.
You possessed that infectious
Laughter that made me smile,
And long to stay.
Soon your second set began
And you retired to the stage.
You gave me a kiss good-bye,
And once again there was loud applause
As you began to strum your songs,
I heard happy fans scream and cry!
*A true encounter
I am a sports car
round and sheik
I flash my headlights for him to see
I'm a caramel classic on new black streets
67 model cushiony satin seats
I'm not bragging that's not my style
Reveal my grill is to steal his smile
I've got speed still and make him proud
Not too many dents not too many miles
I was manufactured by God's hands
No need to shave and I understand
My ancestors prayed and they plan
My journey to persevere in these lands
If you hear my horn you think of music
The kind you like I let you chose it
Press the horn step on the gas
Love created me slow but I go fast
If you are smart cruise me baby
Tend to my parts treat me like a lady
Tell me you love me even when love is crazy
Marry me carry me in charms not shady
I can be traded but he knows
My value is more than silver and gold
We survived years had a fender bender too
But crooked places straight God fixed that too
We desire to inspire the next generation
The empire of cars created in celebration
We are all driven casting salutations
We are all living in manifestations
As I age don't mind my nostalgia
Respect my ride and love my flaws
I am heavy I was made to last
I am your future as well as your past.
