Youth

Youth is a time of great optimism,
when energy in boundless supply flows,
and strong, unyielding viewpoints produce schism,
'tween parent and teen o'er what each one knows.
Should parents try to look through the prism,
of the time when they faced their teenage woes,
they may have a little more sympathy,
and treat their teens with much more empathy.

Hi David. I love your ottava rima form. It works really well. And, yes, I remember those teenage years and much difficulty relating to parents. Best wishes. Tony

Thanks Tony for your comment. I wrote this poem for a poetry class I took last year. It is the only ottava rima in my repertoire. I'm glad you felt it worked well and so did the teacher of the class. I'm glad you liked this poem.
