You'Re Bored, You Say

You're bored, you say? Let's bring on the bears
and dance them around the ring.
You should learn how to juggle or fly a trapeze
'cause I'm sure bored by YOU, ding-a-ling.

You've nothing to do? Let's bring on the lions
and elephants too. When that's through,
let's watch a human cannonball fly.
(I'll suggest that the human be you.)

Tired of me too? Let's bring on the clowns.
Your smirk I so want to erase.
Let them come out with dogs and on stilts
and then throw a pie in your face!

You're DYING of boredom? Let's bring on snake charmers
and the guy who swallows a sword.
Let's make you the target for throwers of knives.
Facing death, you might not feel so bored!

You need an escape? Let's bring on the freaks,
contortionists, and at last, dear,
people who practice escapology,
who can then help you to disappear.

April 17, 2019
for the Bring On The Dancing Bears Poetry Contest of John Lawless
(with all the many things to do in this world, I hate when someone says,
"I'M BORED" well, unless they are forced to be in a place they don't want to be and they have no pen and paper or technological devices on them!)

To what length people go to cure boredom! But then there are blokes who seldom get bored. Lovely piece.

I agree, Andrea. There are so many things to do and see to be bored. It's hard for me to imagine not being able to think of something to do that could fill the void. Great poem. I like your attitude in it. You go girl! lol And, congrats on being on the Best New Poems List.

Sis, harsh words for the bored. I will say I'm totally bored when my husband drags me along to a car show or a car swap meet, totally bored and tired from standing and walking looking at car after car and junk for a car, so not me.

Jenny, that is why I always carry with me a book or paper and pen. I will write or read when I am with a person forcing boring stuff on me. I would see a few cars with him(I actually like those cars shows) but if I were you, I'd excuse myself and find a nice shade to go read a book in!

A brilliant, incisive and sardonic counter blasting rant of a poem that eviscerates those who complain of boredom. Wonderful! Andrea. (Wish I’d written it!)

That's tellin'em. There is simply not enough time in three lifetimes, if I had them, to do all that I want to do. I never understood how anyone could be that bored. Great write!

Andrea, this was a great poem and sure made me laugh, I can honestly tell you with all honesty that I have never, ever, never been bored a day in my life, so many things to do, so little time to do them, who has time to be bored !

A great poem Andrea, and so very true - they also annoy me and its only when they lose their routine through perhaps a misfortune or illness that they long for the life they had, and boredom! Poetry hugs, A very happy and blessed Easter to You and your family Andrea, Jenny.

People ask me "don't you get bored?" No. I do not. If I do, I quickly learn something new, so I can get out of that TRAP fast. A beautiful poem, my friend.

Love the snarky little zingers in this one! ;D hahahaha! I also struggle to understand the concept of boredom... Life may not always be pleasant, but boring? NEVER!

G'day Andrea … really enjoyed the moral of your verse. Is it being just bored or is the owner a boring person; I believe the latter. We can always make something out of nothing - thank you Andrea - Lindsay

I’m never bored, don’t know the meaning of the word but I think you’ve explained it well. Did you do any research on circus entertainers or did they just pour from the pen? Take your back, did you enjoy yourself? Take care Richard

Haha love it Andrea, people today don't know they're born. Put them back fifty years and they'd crack up with no phones or social media . Hope you had a great time in Arizona. Tom

Yeah, they would lose their minds!! Can you imagine though being incapacitated and not even able to see or use your own hands or something? A fate worse than death.
