Your Rainbow
Everyday I chase your rainbow
Spanning all my years
Painting in color my sorrow
Magnifying all my tears.
You were the buttercup yellow of fun
The vibrant violet of argument
You were the orange laughing sun
The sharp red of excitement.
I paint my memories one by one
Every shade of green and pink and blue
Maybe when all is said and done
I'll remember you in a different hue.
For you chased the pure white light
To a place I could not follow
So every colorless night
I search for color in my sorrow.
But sorrow can only be monotone
How many shades of black?
Now I look at rainbows all alone
Wish so much that you were back.
