Notes About The Poem

Your Favorite Song - England's Fairest Rose

When England’s fairest rose strained to find a light neath the monarchy’s shadows, such passion did she incite. Many are the years since Lady Diana Spencer met and married her prince, believing that he loved her. Unrequited affection she tried to brush aside. Poised was her reflection; tears she sought to hide. Princess Di’s quest for love drew her to the masses, who adored this precious dove, more fragile than glass is. A candle caught by harsh wind, extinguished far too young, left the monarchy chagrined; her popularity stung. In death as she was in life, she’s treasured in people’s hearts, for kindness is always rife in the love a People’s Princess imparts.
*Inspired by Elton John’s “Candle in the Wind,” which he performed at Diana’s funeral.

Hi Carolyn, I was wondering who chose such a beautiful song. This is a lovely and moving tribute write for Princess Di. I love the song(both versions)and poem. Princess Di was the world's princess. She had so much grace and compassion for mankind. You expressed very well what this song means to you. It was just what I was looking for. Thanks for participating in "Your Favorite Song" contest. Congratulations on your 1st place win: -) Alexis

This is a beautiful poem inspired by an equally beautiful princess and Elton John's song. I can't help remembering Diana as the 'unhappy princess'. Hugs // paul

Absolutely fantastic tribute the Lady Diana . In her face shown glory of the moon. Sad and painful, she left us far too soon. The tragedy of her death really stung. She died in beauty and far too young.. Fairest rose and a treasure as you wrote and so skillfully created this gleaming gem. A7 and a fav..

You tell a story with such freshness and reality that it soon attaches itself to our reality and we take partial ownership of the emotions poured forth. Emile.

Beautifully crafted and expressed Carolyn. I knew the song early on because "Candle in the Wind" will always remind me of Lady Diana and the sad day Elton John sang it.

Thank you, Chris. Sometimes when I visit youtube, I watch the video of Elton John singing in a church filled with mourners. Diana was loved by many.

Excellent Carolyn. Certain people tried in vain to extinguish the love and respect we all had for Princess Diana. She will always be beloved of the people. Camilla never will be accepted. It looks like the queen is smarter than they thought. She will by-pass Charles and give the crown to William and Kate. As it should be. Great tribute to a fine lady. God Bless, JB

So glad that William will inherit the throne. He seems to have some of Diana's kindness in his heart.

a beautiful tribute Carolyn I can still remember the day I heard the news of her death ... having read the press recently it looks like Camilla one day will be Queen - perish the thought would rather have William and Kate any day!:-) hugs Jan xx
