All the students were very aware
There were nits crawling in her long hair
Perching on the next seat
Trying to be discrete
I got itchy and had to move chair 

based on a real event

Yes, bad news there. I am always a little concerned when traveling on trains or planes (or even someone's car) that there be lice there. I used to work with someone who (as a side job) removed lice from hair and scalp. She had large magnifying lamps. It can spread easily.

Not a pleasant situation but it is a nice poem. It's so tramatic for a young child and it happens to the nicest ones because they always want to be close to other kids and share things with their friends.

Jan, this is great, reminded me of when I was a kid and we all came home with them from school and Mom had to get this special solution that smelled awful and anyways worked thankfully after one application, oh my lovely hair was so itchy, and poor Mom was totally freaked out with three heads to do ~

wow, great meter and great limerick, Jan. I think you are really getting that limerick vibe now!! that picture was so gross! My daughter got these when she was 8 years old. It was embarrassing because she got it from going to a carnival in my hometown and I am sure she must have passed it on to a few cousins . I remember having to pick the eggs that stay on the hair after washing them out. It was impossible so we had to cut off her beautiful locks!!

Thanks Andrea :-) in a way I wish I'd never written it as I itch every time I read a comment lol but I wrote 2 limericks inspired by schoolkids lol - one more to post tomorrow lol:-) hugs jan xx I remember when my son got them he loved 'popping' the eggs lol - kids eh!

This kind of itch, really do make us feel like itching also. I sometimes think in every school these nasty nits sure go around... good thing I never got them as a young one, for you would not believe just how much hair I really do have. Even Jack Ellison said, wow you sure do have a lot of hair. Kind of funny cause in winter my head never gets cold.. haha!! huggs Theresa // thanks for sharing Jan

As soon as anyone mentions headlice my head starts itching it is a natural reaction I think :-) Gosh yes having a lot of thick hair would be an issue if these little critters got in them:-( hugs Jan xx

Nits are horrible. Luckily we haven't had them going round for a while because when we do, its weeks of nit shampoo, electric combs and funny shower cap things (I think to fumigate them). The moment nits are in town you do get that funny itch on your head! The mind is a powerful thing.

I was itching just telling someone I was posting this lol - I have never had them but son got them twice when he was at primary school and he was SO excited - didn't want to be different to the other kids lol:-) hugs jan xx
