You'Ll Be Okay

“You’ll be okay” You said as you walked away Leaving me to wonder If that was your hope Or an order. In 3 months, You’ll be expecting an “I’m great!” In response to A meaningless “How have you been?” Just to satisfy your Non-existent pile of guilt A reassurance That you did nothing wrong Yes, I have to be okay. Because I get it no one wants To be the guy Who broke the poor girl’s heart, Carrying around the remains Of her sadness Like a heavy knapsack On your back And you just want to go far away. And no one wants to be the girl Who kept plunging brick After brick Into the bag Just so he can feel The weight of it all. Yes, I have to be okay. So that when You are asked about me You can say Oh she’s fine, doing quite well Instead of Oh my god she’s a mess It’s just sad- No. You’re right. I’m okay. Let your conscience be eased By my well-being. You don’t have To look back Don’t have to think About the consequences Of breaking a heart Of shattering a person I am okay So that you Won’t feel bad So that you’ll be okay too Even as I’m broken I’m still thinking about you
